Trailing 2-1 at the top of the third period, the Florida Panthers fight back and net the game-winner 20 seconds into overtime to defeat the New York Islanders, 3-2, at UBS Arena. Ilya Sorokin was simply fantastic in net with 39 saves but it was not enough to hold off Florida's dynamic duo, as Jonathan Huberdeau set up Aleksander Barkov for all three goals on the night, resulting in the third hat trick of his career. Before the game, the Islanders honored the life of the franchise's leading goal-scorer, Mike Bossy, who passed away late last week. His legacy continues to live in the rafters of UBS, where the Isles will play host to the rival Rangers on Thursday. Until then, here's Chris Henessy. With a perfect combination of stout goaltending, timely defense and some offensive firepower, the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-0 at MSG this afternoon. As per usual, Igor Shesterkin and the defense in front of him was solid when they had to be, and offensively, the Rangers controlled the tempo at will. Goals in the first and second period from Mika Zibanejad and Frank Vatrano set up the Blueshirts for a third frame that starred a rejuvenated Alexis Lafrenière, who was coming off some rest after being a healthy scratch just one game ago. Lafrenière netted 2 goals in the final 20 minutes, the second coming with a little extra flair, to ensure that New York came away with the victory. Featuring Coach Gallant and Lafrenière's thoughts on his strong performance, here's the postgame recap from Colin Loughran. The New York Rangers succumb to the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2 the final at the Garden. However, the story of the night belonged to Chris Kreider, whose goal with a minute and thirty seconds remaining may not have meant much to the game but represented his 50th of the season, becoming just the fourth Ranger to reach that pivotal mark. The Blueshirts jumped out to an early lead behind K'Andre Miler's second period goal but let things slide by allowing three consecutive scores to the Hurricanes, paving the way to the final outcome. The Rangers travel to Philadelphia tomorrow to take on the Flyers. The New York Yankees pick up their second win to start the season against the Boston Red Sox, 4-2 in the Bronx. Luis Severino made his first start on the mound since the 2019 ALCS and Alex Verdugo took him deep early to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. However, the Yankees' bullpen did not allow a single hit once Severino left, and a pair of home runs from Rizzo and Stanton put them ahead for good. Chapman earned the save and Luerge the win as the Yankees look for the sweep Sunday night. With the postgame recap and Verdugo's thoughts on what he saw out of Severino, here's Jack Roche. After defeating the New England Revolution, the New York Red Bulls return home and remain searching for their first win of the season at what was once considered to be a fortress, falling 2-1 to CF Montreal. It was a strong first half for the Red Bulls, finding success in a new formation and striking just fourteen minutes in thanks to a dominant midfield trio. However, things turned around in the second half. Montreal slowly grew into the game and the Red Bulls fell out of it, giving up the equalizer in the 71st minute before one big mistake from Carlos Coronel in net ten minutes later ultimately handed Montreal the win. It was the Red Bulls' game to lose and they did just that. They'll look to bounce back next weekend against FC Dallas. Nick Guzman and James Birle will be there, but for now, here's their postgame recap. A surprise outcome as the New York Islanders walk out of the Garden with a commanding 3-0 victory over the New York Rangers. The home squad looked lethargic from the start and the surging Islanders capitalized on it. Casey Cizikas got the scoring started early and the Isles never looked back from there , adding two more while Semyon Varlamov kept his own net clean, finishing with a remarkable fourth consecutive shutout at MSG. The latest edition of the Hudson River Rivalry took place in Newark on Tuesday, with the New Jersey Devils defeating the New York Rangers by a score of 7-4. The Rangers got out to an early lead and were up 2-0 at the end of the first period. However, the Devils came back with a vengeance in period two and scored 5 unanswered goals to completely change the momentum of this game. Jack Hughes then netted a pair of back-to-back goals in the third, his 100th and 101st career NHL points, to seal the deal for New Jersey. Though the Rangers tried to fight their way back into this game with two goals in response it was ultimately not enough, and they return home to New York with their first loss against the Devils since February 16, 2021. The Devils showed that they have what it takes to be serious contenders in a few years' time, and that they refuse to give up though a playoff appearance is essentially out of the question. They next play on Wednesday night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, and will return home on Sunday the 27th to play the Montreal Canadiens at 7 PM. Until then, with the postgame recap, here's Samantha Bohrer. The New York Islanders take down the Ottawa Senators, 3-0, sweeping the season series and claiming their fifth straight win at UBS Arena. An ugly first two periods on both sides left the game scoreless, but the Islanders turned things around in the third, scoring all three goals there en route to the victory. Semyon Varlamov was the one constant all night long, tallying 24 saves and his first shutout of the season. Some thought he may be dealt away the deadline, but Casey Cizikas and Barry Trotz spoke to just how valuable he is in the locker room, and as tonight showed, on the ice as well. Here's all that and more from Tyler Mooney.
