The latest edition of the Hudson River Rivalry took place in Newark on Tuesday, with the New Jersey Devils defeating the New York Rangers by a score of 7-4. The Rangers got out to an early lead and were up 2-0 at the end of the first period. However, the Devils came back with a vengeance in period two and scored 5 unanswered goals to completely change the momentum of this game. Jack Hughes then netted a pair of back-to-back goals in the third, his 100th and 101st career NHL points, to seal the deal for New Jersey. Though the Rangers tried to fight their way back into this game with two goals in response it was ultimately not enough, and they return home to New York with their first loss against the Devils since February 16, 2021. The Devils showed that they have what it takes to be serious contenders in a few years' time, and that they refuse to give up though a playoff appearance is essentially out of the question. They next play on Wednesday night in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, and will return home on Sunday the 27th to play the Montreal Canadiens at 7 PM.
