World Cup 2023: Conway, Ravindra's tons lead New Zealand to win over England in openerKane Williamson, Tim Southee rested due to injury. Ben Stokes has a niggle, and misses out on WC opener. Jose Buttler says they would have looked to bowl first as well. AHMEDABAD: New Zealand steamrollered defending champions England by nine wickets in the opening match of the 50-over World Cup on Thursday, demonstrating again their knack of punching above their weight in showpiece events. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra smashed rapid unbeaten centuries to set up New Zealand's successful pursuit of a 283-run victory target, which came with 13.4 overs to spare. It was a rematch of the heart-stopping 2019 final at Lord's in which England were declared winners via a now-scrapped boundary countback rule after the contest had ended in a tie. Electing to field on Thursday, New Zealand's bowlers restricted their opponents to 282-9, a modest total considering the firepower in England's usually formidable batting lineup. England's batters did not really fire but Joe Root (77), Jos Buttler (43) and Jonny Bairstow (33) provided some resistance. However, England could not string together enough partnerships and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Matt Henry claimed 3-48 for New Zealand, while their three spinners shared five wickets on a hot afternoon at the Narendra Modi Stadium. All 11 England batters made double figures -- the first time any side have managed that in ODIs -- but it was a patchy batting display overall. #gt20canada #gt20season3 #cricketsnorth Both the teams coming into this contest high on confidence, bagging 2 points each winning their previous games. Tim Southee from the Wolves and Hamza Tariq from the Nationals came out for the coin toss. Wolves won the toss and asked the Nationals to bat first. No change in the Playing XI for both the teams. Hamza Tariq opened the innings with his partner Colin Munro. The skipper started off the innings with a positive intent, taking on the Wolves bowlers. It was a familiar affair for Munro as the opposition had a number of Kiwis on their side. Tariq's party was ended by Tim Southee thanks to a spectacular grab from Chris Green. The Canadian international Nicholas Kirton then joined his fellow Southpaw in the middle. Kirton was scoring at a swift pace, while Munro played a supporting role. Soon, Logan van Beek came into the attack and removed Colin Munro. This made way for Shahid Afridi to enter with 11 overs remaining. Afridi looked good in the middle, but his namesake from the Wolves - Shahid Ahmadzai found the piece of Afridi's timber. The very next ball Ahmadzai removed Gerhard Erasmus. A string of wickets brought the Wolves back into the game. With small contributions from Faheem Ashraf and Saad bin Zafar, the Nationals were able to post 142 on the board. From the Wolves it was Usman Khan and Aaron Johnson who started the chase. It was Zaman Khan who struck the first blow with his loopy slow yorker right at the bottom of Usman's middle stump. This marked the arrival of Mark Chapman to the crease who started from the word go. Once again Zaman Khan struck for the Nationals getting rid of Aaron Johnson and soon Faheem Ashraf removed Mark Chapman. The big guy Colin de Grandhomme found Shahid Afridi's hands off Farhan Malik's bowling. These fall of wickets brought the young Pakistani all-rounder Hussain Talat and the Canadian legend Rizwan Cheema. Together these two brought the chase back into the Wolves' favour. The specialist death bowling line-up of the Nationals brought chaos into the Wolves camp. But Rizwan Cheema held off one end and brought the target closer to their reach. Shahid Afridi then took matters into his own hands, bowled the 18th over, and got 2 consecutive wickets. The Wolves needed just 2 runs off 8 balls, when Chris Green gave away his wicket, bringing the last batter in the middle. The Nationals went to their most experienced player Shahid Afridi, asking for a miracle, which he almost pulled off. The Wolves scored the winning runs in the second last ball and got 2 crucial points. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click on the link to subscribe to GT20 Canada: https://bit.ly/32UcUdi Click on the link below to follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gt20canada/ Click on the link below to follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/gt20canada Click on the link below to follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GT20Canada To check out the stats, tap the link below: https://gt20.ca/

Delhi Capitals will have to open their account and gather some points. One of the unique things about this week of the Indian Premier League is that we're gonna have three doubleheader days. Yes April 19 Thursday is going to stage two intense battles. The second game of the day will see Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals go one on one against each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium New Delhi. Team Preview (Delhi Capitals): The GMR-co-owned franchise are having a tough time in the competition. They have played five matches so far and have lost all of them. With no points at all they are reeling at the bottom of the points table. They have mixed their overseas players and failed to give a consistent run to players such as Rovman Powell and Rilee Rossouw. Prithvi Shaw has been a total failure at the top of the order while the middle order has been fragile as well. From the batting point of view David Warner has been the one-man army with some support from Axar Patel and Manish Pandey. When it comes to the bowling department Anrich Nortje has been superb with support from Kuldeep Yadav. Mustafizur Rahman has bowled a few excellent deliveries but at times has gone for runs as well. The spin department isn't that an issue with Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav doing a good job. Team Preview (Kolkata Knight Riders): The Shahrukh Khan-co-owned community has been one of the most entertaining teams of the season so far. The side have found different match-winners on each match. Venkatesh Iyer notched up a tremendous century in the last game and became the second centurion for KKR in IPL. Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh have played some gem of an innings this season. Rahmanullah Gurbaz Andre Russell and Narayan Jagadeesan are due of a good knock. The bowling hasn't been very good from KKR and it has cost them close games. Earlier Tim Southee and now Lockie Ferguson both the Kiwis have been taken to the cleaners by the opposition. The spin trio of Sunil Narine Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma have been the positive for the side. Currently they have 4 points in 5 matches and are have lost their last two matches. Head to head: In 31 matches between the two teams Delhi Capitals have won 14 Kolkata Knight Riders have won 16 - with one game ending in a no-result. Delhi Capitals Tactics & Match-ups: David Warner has 228 runs this season but it has come at a strike rate of just 116.92. But this could be a fixture where he can look to give that rather unflattering statistic a jump as he strikes at 144.62 against Umesh Yadav at 153.04 against Sunil Narine and at 218.18 against Andre Russell. Umesh however has dismissed him five times in 65 balls. Kolkata Knight Riders Tactics & Match-ups: Suyash Sharma will be licking his lips to bowl at a venue where two opposition wrist spinners - Rashid Khan and Piyush Chawla - have dismantled Delhi Capitals' batting order to set their sides up for wins at this venue. Additionally Umesh KKR's Powerplay option matches up well against Prithvi Shaw having dismissed him twice in 16 balls. What to expect: A chaser's delight as the venue has traditionally been. The surfaces in the two games at the venue have been a bit sticky and had something for the bowlers but eased out as the game progressed. In both those games DC batter first struggled posted par totals (163 and 172) and failed to defend them. Warner will hope the change in fortunes for his team begins at the flip of the coin. India vs New Zealand 3rd T20 Live This Match Will be Played at Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad on 1st February 2023 This Match Will Start at 7.00pm From Indian Standard time. India and New Zealand will be playing against each other in the third and final match of the T20I series. After Ranchi and Lucknow the decider will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad. After a horrendous ODI series New Zealand started the shorter formats with a win under their name. Batting first the fifties from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell helped the Kiwis to post a total of 176 runs. India failed to chase it down despite valiant efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar. The Men in Blue bounced back in the 2nd T20I after they managed to make a heavy weather of a paltry total. It was Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who helped the side to go over the line by keeping their calm. While the visitors will be looking to redeem themselves from the ODI series against India the 'Men in Blue' will look to keep their record intact. Team news India: The hosts left out Umran Malik for a second spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal and the pitch again will dictate that decision. Team news New Zealand: The visitors have played the same side on what were slightly different surfaces and they are unlikely to make any change for the decider. While the pitch in Ranchi left Hardik Pandya "surprised" the India captain was "shocked" by what was on offer in Lucknow. And when the talk is largely about the playing surface ahead of a series decider especially with India's proud record of 12 undefeated home series on the line something's got to give. Ahmedabad the venue for the third and final T20I between India and New Zealand has had its fair share of debate around pitches in the past. And the last thing both teams would want is another tricky T20 surface that sees Lockie Ferguson bowl as many overs as Mark Chapman; or Deepak Hooda twice as many as Yuzvendra Chahal. Pitch aside India will know that there's work to be done especially with a young side that's trying to ready itself for 2024. After a breezy ODI whitewash the T20I rubber hasn't been as easy for the hosts. While the death bowling cost them in Ranchi their batting was under the scanner two days later; India got past a target of 100 with only a ball to spare. But the challenging conditions stole the thunder away hardly allowing the team to assess their progress. For example Arshdeep Singh bowled the 20th over again after copping some heat in the first T20I but that he was up against a team limping at 94/8 hardly lent credibility to his five-run last over. For New Zealand this is a great opportunity. They are without a host of their frontline players like Trent Boult Kane Williamson and Tim Southee and are in with a shot to beat India in a T20I series at home - the bragging rights for which has belonged only to Australia and West Indies in the last eight years. For Mitchell Santner's team that will be a great shot in the arm and expect the side to mount a good challenge for the hosts pitch permitting of course. What to expect: A nervous curator. And a fair few cheers for Hardik Pandya the Gujarat Titans captain who is also leading the India T20I side now. Like most Indian grounds teams have preferred to bat second here but in the last couple of games here against England India showed that it is in fact possible to defend targets here. That said those games were played in March; this one could see some fair amount of dew though. It will be interesting to see what pitch the match is played on (Ahmedabad has both red and black soil pitches) but expect the venue to be buzzing again with capacity crowds.
