Aftermath: Fulham 0-0 West Ham United I Mike Dean Should Be Investigated
VAR and officiating been a major talking point in the Premier League, and it was the focus of West Ham United's draw against Fulham. Referee Mike Dean made a major call late in the game, dismissing West Ham's Tomàš Souček due to alleged violent conduct. Souček appeared to elbow Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrović, even though both players claimed that it was accidental. The red card means that Souček faces a three-game ban. Pundits, ex-players and the media heavily criticized the decision to send the player off. West Ham manager David Moyes responded angrily when he was asked about the dismissal. "I'm embarrassed for the referee" says Moyes after West Ham red card
West Ham United manager David Moyes said he was "embarrassed" for referee Mike Dean after he sent-off midfielder Tomas Soucek for an apparent elbow on Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Moyes was angered by the decision - which also brought widespread criticism on social media - after Dean was invited to review the incident by VAR Lee Mason. Moyes also said that Mitrovic had told referee Dean that the incident was accidental. Several Gunners players took to social media to voice their dismay after the match, with Luiz labelling his sending off as "unbelievable", but Arteta's men cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves and must aim to get back on track straight away. The visitors had strung together a seven-game unbeaten run in the top flight - five wins and two draws - before their torrid evening at Molineux, but that defeat has seen them slump to 10th in the table and they are now nine points adrift of the Champions League places.
