This will mark the 14th match of the 2024 PSL. Two finalists of 2023, Lahore and Multan, are having contrasting tournaments so far. While the Qalandars are lying at the bottom, with five successive defeats in same number of matches, the Sultans are leading the charts with 8 points from 5 games, winning four and losing one fixture. This is the second time in this competition that these two sides meet each other. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side won the reverse fixture at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (February 21) by five wickets. Batting first, Lahore posted 166/5 in 20 overs, with Rassie van der Dussen scoring an excellent half-century and Fakhar Zaman, Sikandar Raza and Carlos Brathwaite playing useful knocks. For Multan, Mohammad Ali picked up two wickets, while Abbas Afridi and Usama Mir grabbed a wicket each. Skipper Rizwan played a captain's knock, hitting 82 runs before Iftikhar Ahmed's 11-ball 34 sealed the deal for the Sultans with an over remaining. Though Shaheen Shah Afridi (2), Zaman Khan (2), and George Linde (1) shared the five wickets to fall, the Qalandars failed to restrict the opponents. Lahore Qalandars are coming off a loss, of course, with them yet to win a game, but van der Dussen smashed a magnificent century against Peshawar Zalmi in a high-scoring encounter. On the other hand, Multan Sultans, too, lost to Peshawar before coming back in the winning ways against Quetta Gladiators to keep their top spot intact. Ali Majid has joined the Multan squad as a partial replacement for Ihsanullah.

Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will go up against each other on Tuesday (January 16) in the second T20I of the three-match series in Colombo. The first T20I was a nail-biting thriller in which Sri Lanka eventually won by three wickets. Coupled with Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 18-ball 26 Sri Lanka rode on Angelo Mathews’ 38-ball 46 to get the job done on the last ball of the contest. Wanindu Hasaranga as expected lived up to his lofty expectations whereas Maheesh Theekshana took two crucial wickets as well. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe are set to lock horns in the second T20I of the three-match series on Tuesday January 16. The R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host the clash. The first T20I in Colombo turned out to be an absolute cracker as the match was in the balance until the last over. With 14 runs to win off the last over Dushmantha Chameera held his nerves to take his team home. Sikandar Raza almost pulled off a win for the visiting team single-handedly but his efforts fell short. He scored 62 runs off 42 balls with five fours and two sixes after which he finished with figures of 4-0-13-3. Angelo Mathews who made his comeback in T20Is after almost three years won the Player of the Match award. He scored 46 runs off 38 balls under pressure with the help of five fours and a six. After being put in to bat first Zimbabwe scored 143 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Sri Lanka chased down the target off the last ball to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. We are set for the final game of the three-match ODI series between the hosts Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka were stretched quite hard in the second ODI and managed to just get over the line and Zimbabwe would be hoping to win those crucial little moments in this game and level the series to gain some much-needed confidence ahead of the T20I series. The hosts Sri Lanka won't be happy with their performance especially with the bat in this series. Their batters have been guilty of throwing away their starts and it was Liyanage who with his 95 displayed some lone warrior skills in the last game. In the first match it was Asalanka who bailed them out with a fantastic century. However they need their top order to fire and the likes of Kusal Mendis Samarawickrama and Avishka will be itching to get a big score. Hasaranga is still doubtful and Sri Lanka might just rest him and keep their T20I captain fresh for that series. Dilshan Madushanka has bowled beautifully while Theekshana bamboozled Zimbabwe batters with his crafty tweakers in the last game. We can expect them to sizzle again with the ball. Zimbabwe on the other hand have been good with the ball too. They almost made the match out of their below-par total of 208 but need to bat better. They have been heavily depended on few players like Craig Ervine Sikandar Raza. Ryan Burl and even Sean Williams who is not present in this series and it is high time that other players start contributing. Gumbie looked well in his 37-ball stay in the last game while Ervine batted brilliantly for his 82. Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl have not yet lived up to their billing with the bat and if these seniors and couple of youngsters can fire in unison we might see Zimbabwe coming out on top. Richard Ngarava has been brilliant so far in this series and picked up a five-wicket haul in this game while other pacers like Muzarabani and Faraz Akram have also bowled well. He might not make it to the XI though as Nuwanidu Fernando is likely to open alongside another comeback man Avishka Fernando. Both are talented batters and with likes of Sadeera Samarawickrama Charith Asalanka and captain Mendis forming a strong middle order Sri Lanka would be looking to deliver strong performances with the bat. However the focus will be on Dasun Shanaka who has been removed as captain has been under criticism lately for his inconsistent performances. On the bowling front Akila Dananjaya has made his comeback into the national side but he might miss the cut in the XI with presence of Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage in the squad. Dushmantha Chameera is also fully fit and raring to go while Dilshan Madushanka would be looking to continue his great form from the ODI World Cup in India.
