The #6 seeded Richmond Spiders completed their unlikely four day run to the A-10 Tournament Championship and NCAA Auto-Bid with a dramatic comeback win in the final 1:17 of yesterday's game. Tyler Burton launched the comeback with a driving bucket and FT to make it 62-60. After a crucial Spiders stop Matt Grace matched Burton's three point play with another driving bucket and FT to give the Spiders the lead 63-62. Once again Richmond stopped Davidson with Jacob Gilyard fouled, After Gilyard makes 1 of 2 FTs to boost the Spiders lead to 64-62, UR makes the final stop when Jones misses a shot at the buzzer. It was the Spiders first A-10 Championship and NCAA bid since 2011.

The Richmond Spiders are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 1st time since 2011 after they won the A-10 Title, 64-62 over Davidson. Jacob Gilyard was named Tourney MVP.

Richmond (19-10, 10-6 A-10) celebrated Senior Night with a come from behind 68-66 victory over St. Louis (19-10, 10-6 A-10). Trailing 43-33 at the half the Spiders held the Billikens to 23 points in the 2nd half. STL shot only 27% from the field and were 0-8 from 3FT range. After scoring 32 of their 43 first half points in the paint Richmond held St. Louis to just 12 in the 2nd half. The Spiders were led by "Super Seniors" Jacob Gilyard with 15 points and Nick Sherod with 13 points, but it was Tyler Burton who made sure the Senior Night celebration continued with 23 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Richmond honored 6 "Super Seniors" (six or five seasons) and 3 four year seniors in a ceremony prior to the game.

Richmond (17-9, 8-5 A-10) got back on the winning track tonight with a win over the outmanned, but pesky Explorers. Five Spiders were in double figures led by Tyler Burton and Grant Golden with 15 points each. Nick Sherod and Nathan Cayo delivered 12 points. Jacob Gilyard finished off the double digit scorers with 11 points. Gilyard also dished 5 assists, snared 6 rebounds and had 4 steals. Burton had 10 rebounds and Golden 8 as UR dominated the boards 37-28. The Spiders led by 36-33 at the half. They gradually built their lead to double digits at 61-51 with 7:44 remaining and were never threatened down the stretch.

Richmond (16-8, 7-4 A-10) defeated a game George Mason tonight on a Jacob Gilyard three with :00.9 remaining. Gilyard made three critical three pointers in the final five minutes to lead an 11-2 closing Spiders run which took UR from down 57-51 with 5:25 remaining to the important win. Gilyard finished with 23 points on 7-12 from three point range. The underdog Patriots bottled up the Spiders inside game in the first half, but Tyler Burton and Grant Golden came on for 11 points each in the 2nd half to pull UR to a ten point lead at 41-31 after a 12-0 run to open the 2nd half. But the Spiders could not hold it as the Patriots rallied until Gilyard took over and delivered the win.

Richmond (15-8, 6-4 A-10) wore down St. Bonaventure last night to successfully open the 2nd half of their A-10 conference schedule. Tyler Burton's monster game of 36 points and 7 rebounds led the way for the Spiders. He put 21 up in the first half when the Spiders built a 38-31 half time lead. However, the Bonnies continued to scrap, taking their final lead at 46-45 with 10:46 remaining. From this point UR, led by Burton put them away. The Spiders held St. Bonaventure to a single FG for five minutes down the stretch. Richmond broke a five game losing streak to the Bonnies. UR dominated the boards, out rebounding Bona 35-24. Burton was ably assisted by Grant Golden's 12 points and 10 rebounds, Andre Gustavson's 9 points and 4 steals, and Jacob Gilyard's 8 assists. The Spiders sealed the win by making 13-15 from the FT line.

Tonight Tyler Burton led Richmond (15-8, 6-4 A-10) to a convincing win over St. Bonaventure. Burton had a monster game with a career high 36 points on 13-20 from the field. It featured 3-6 3FG and 7-9 FT. He also snared 7 rebounds. The Spiders dominated the boards 35-24 and with 10 offensive rebounds outscored the Bonnies 13-9 on 2nd chance points. Burton scored 21 of his points in the first half as the Richmond built a 38-31 half time lead. UR made 13-15 from the FT line and never allowed St. Bonaventure to lead after the 10:46 mark of the 2nd half. Grant Golden backed up Burton with a 12 points and 10 rebound double-double. Andre Gustavson had 9 points and 4 steals. Jacob Gilyard dished out 8 assists. This was a big team win to start the second half of the A-10 schedule. Richmond has now won 5 of its last 6 games. The win broke a five game Spiders losing streak versus the Bonnies.

The Davidson Wildcats and Richmond Spiders put on a tremendous offensive show Friday night in the Wildcats hard fought 87-84 victory over the homestanding Spiders. UR was led by Jacob Gilyard with 28 points and Nick Sherod with 20. Richmond shot 46% from the field. Included were 12 three pointers.
