A New Beginning After eight years the Absa Cape Epic returns to Lourensford Wine Estate. In 2022, Lourensford Wine Estate serves as the starting point for another edition of The Race That Measures All. What a race it will be, especially if it lives up to the highlight filled billing of Prologues passed. Packed with singletracks, but optimised for overtaking, it sets the tone for the seven stages that follow. Stunning mountain and ocean views await those who can lift their eyes from their stems. The first half drags steadily uphill, driving heart rates ever-upwards, before the second phase of the day is packed with roller-coaster downhills on manicured singletrack. A Nail-biting Finale For The Race To The Sun! | Paris Nice 2022 Stage 8 Highlights
Nothing is ever certain before the final day of Paris-Nice. That statement has never rung more true than last year when RogliÄ, who until then had led the race with an iron fist, fell victim to a spate of crashes and mechanicals, ultimately losing his large buffer and conceding the race lead to Schachmann. This yearâs final stage is even more difficult than last yearâs, with five categorised climbs crammed into just 115.6km. There are more opportunities for the leaderâs closest rivals to attack him too - the best of which, the Col dâĂze (6km at 7.6%), falls in the final 20km. Defending yellow on a day like this is no easy task, even if the jersey feels secure nothing is guaranteed until the leader crosses the line in Nice! Strongest Climbers Go Head To Head On Queen Stage | Paris Nice 2022 Stage 7 Highlights
Day sevenâs Queen stage is all about its final 14.9km and the long grind to the summit of Col de Turini. An average gradient of 7.3% pushes this climb into the realms of the mountain goats and pure climbers, but its lack of double-digit ramps does mean that the diesel climbers could fare well too. Where the favourites will make their inevitable moves depends on how the GC is ordered at the start of the day. If theyâre minutes behind the leaders then theyâll have to launch from the base, if theyâre just a handful of seconds away then they could leave it until the last couple of kilometres. A Day Of Punchy Climbs! | Tirreno-Adriatico 2022 Stage 5 Highlights
At just 154.5km in length, the so-called Tappa dei Muri (Stage of the Walls) is the shortest road stage of the race, but still contains 2,455m of climbing. Traversing onto the east coast at Port SantâElpidio, the race tackles a tough and hilly final circuit that circumvents Fermo and eventually finishes inside the town situated on Sabulo hill. A tasty 1,429m of climbing falls inside the final 62km. This could be a very exciting day of racing! Holding Off The Bunch! | Paris Nice 2022 Stage 6 Highlights
Another opportunity for the breakaway specialists falls on day six, the longest stage of the race and a day that, on paper, looks tailor-made for the escape artists. The battle to join the break on the Col de Murs (10.4km at 4.3%) will be fierce, we could also see some GC outsiders try to sneak their way into the move. If that happens then expect the peloton to keep the break on a tight leash; if not then this will quickly become the breakâs stage for the taking. Sprinters Take On Technical Cobbled Finale | Tirreno-Adriatico 2022 Stage 3 Highlights
Stage 3 will see the riders tackle another 2000m+ of climbing, but a lot of this is done in the first 125km. The final 14km between Narni Scalo and Terni are on flat ground, with a left turn at 350m to go taking the riders into a smooth but cobbled street that may witness a sprint finish. The hills inside the first half of the stage might allow a breakaway to build a sufficient lead to contest the finish, otherwise it is likely that there will be a sprinting showdown in Terni. The longest stage of the race at 219km, stage 2 stretches inland from Camaiore to Sovicille as Tirreno-Adriatico begins its long march from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Adriatic. If the sprinters are in good form and the second half of the stage is not made too difficult, they should hang on to contest the finish!
