Bangladesh v Sri Lanka 1st T20 Live Scores | BAN vs SL 1st T20 Live Scores & Commentary | SL Innings

T20 is the flavour of the season and we will see a lot of it in the next few months because of the World Cup scheduled in June this year. These two teams - Bangladesh and Sri Lanka - have players already in T20 mode. Bangladesh players are coming into this 3-match series on the back of BPL while Sri Lanka recently beat Afghanistan in this format. The home side has a new look to it with the experienced trio of Tamim Shakib and Rahim not available for various reasons. Najmul Shanto will lead this rather young side as they start their preparation for the main event. Sri Lanka too have a change in captaincy for the first two games. Regular skipper Wanindu Hasaranga is suspended for the first two games and Charith Asalanka will lead the side in his absence. The Lankans played some exciting cricket against Afghanistan and would look to carry that into these three games. Anamul Haque needs 15 runs to complete 2000 runs in international cricket. It was only last Friday (March 1) that Najmul Hossain Shanto & Co. ended their respective stints at the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 but so tight is the cricket calendar that only three days later hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will face-off in a three-match T20I series beginning in Sylhet. All three T20Is – the remaining two fixtures are on March 6 and 9 – will be played in Sylhet. This is the road to ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean and it’ll be crucial for the teams to gather and then sustain momentum heading into the mega-event in June later this year. Star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will not be in action due to eye issue. Mehidy Hasan Miraz the vice-captain of the T20I team has been dropped. Meanwhile Mahmudullah has returned to the T20I side after more than a year having smashed 237 runs with two fifties at a healthy strike-rate of 134.65 in the recently-concluded BPL season. Anamul Haque Mohammad Naim Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed all of who didn’t feature in Bangladesh’s previous T20I assignment in New Zealand (in December 2023) that ended 1-1 have been brought back. Mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam who earned his maiden call-up to the national team after. A successful campaign with Comilla Victorians in the BPL – he bagged 9 scalps at an impressive economy of 7.17 – has been ruled out with a finger injury. Jaker Ali has been drafted into the squad as Aliss' replacement. Jaker also featured for the Comilla-based franchise in the BPL. He hit 199 runs at a splendid strike-rate of 141.13 and at an awe-inspiring average of 99.50. Bangladesh will know they need a complete team performance against Sri Lanka who’ll be high on confidence after winning successive T20I series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Charith Asalanka will be the stand-in Sri Lanka skipper in place of Wanindu Hasaranga for the first two of three T20Is. It’s pertinent to note that Hasaranga was suspended for two T20Is by the ICC following his outburst against umpire Lyndon Hannibal in a T20I against Afghanistan. Hasaranga who was also fined 50 per cent of his match fee will return as captain for the final T20I on March 9. In Hasaranga’s absence Akila Dananjaya and Maheesh Theekshana are the other spinners in the squad. Opening batter Avishka Fernando has come in for the injured Pathum Nissanka. Sri Lanka will miss the services of Kusal Perera who is down with a respiratory infection. Niroshan Dickwella who last played for Sri Lanka in March 2023 has been named Perera’s replacement. Bangladesh the home team would’ve to be mentally ready to handle the pressure of expectations better. Sri Lanka on the other hand would bank on their batters and spin department to produce a special performance. The three T20Is could well be about one of the teams setting the bar so high that the other would have extra motivation to overcome the challenge thrown at them. This will mark the 14th match of the 2024 PSL. Two finalists of 2023, Lahore and Multan, are having contrasting tournaments so far. While the Qalandars are lying at the bottom, with five successive defeats in same number of matches, the Sultans are leading the charts with 8 points from 5 games, winning four and losing one fixture. This is the second time in this competition that these two sides meet each other. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side won the reverse fixture at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday (February 21) by five wickets. Batting first, Lahore posted 166/5 in 20 overs, with Rassie van der Dussen scoring an excellent half-century and Fakhar Zaman, Sikandar Raza and Carlos Brathwaite playing useful knocks. For Multan, Mohammad Ali picked up two wickets, while Abbas Afridi and Usama Mir grabbed a wicket each. Skipper Rizwan played a captain's knock, hitting 82 runs before Iftikhar Ahmed's 11-ball 34 sealed the deal for the Sultans with an over remaining. Though Shaheen Shah Afridi (2), Zaman Khan (2), and George Linde (1) shared the five wickets to fall, the Qalandars failed to restrict the opponents. Lahore Qalandars are coming off a loss, of course, with them yet to win a game, but van der Dussen smashed a magnificent century against Peshawar Zalmi in a high-scoring encounter. On the other hand, Multan Sultans, too, lost to Peshawar before coming back in the winning ways against Quetta Gladiators to keep their top spot intact. Ali Majid has joined the Multan squad as a partial replacement for Ihsanullah.

Lahore Qalandars take on Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday (February 24). At present, the defending champions, the Lahore-based franchise, are glued to the bottom. They have lost all three games and are in a slump. Karachi Kings, on the other hand, won and lost a game each and are placed fourth with two points. The Qalandars lost to Multan Sultans by 5 wickets in the previous match. Rassie van der Dussen's half-century and a welcome return to form for Fakhar Zaman before the cameos from Jahandad Khan and Carlos Brathwaite took Lahore to 166/5 in 20 overs. Despite the good bowling from Shaheen Shah Afridi, Zaman Khan, and George Linde, Lahore Qalandars failed to stop Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed as Sultans sidelined the defending champions with an over remaining to hand them a hat-trick of defeats in season eight. The Kings bounced back from the initial loss to the Sultans to bash the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi by 7 wickets in the previous meeting. Three wicket hauls from Mir Hamza and Hasan Ali, Daniel Sams' 2 scalps and good spells from Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Nawaz saw the Peshawar-based franchise crumble for 154 in 19.5 overs despite another superb innings from Babar Azam. Though skipper Shan Masood and wicketkeeper Muhammad Akhlaq were dismissed early, the Karachi-based franchise's innings was rebuilt by solid innings' from James Vince and Malik before the T20 global star Kieron Pollard took matters into his own hands, smashing an unbeaten 21-ball 49 to brush aside the Zalmi with more than three overs remaining.

Multan Sultans face Peshawar Zalmi in the 9th match of the season at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Friday (February 23). It's time for the besties in Pakistan cricket, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, to enter the battlefield, leading respective franchises. The Sultans have played three matches and won all of them quite comfortably, while the Zalmi have lost both of their games so far. The Multan-based franchise has covered most of the bases, while only Babar Azam is shining for the Peshawar-based franchise. The bowling department of the Babar-led side needs to come together, and so does the batting unit, which has to support the skipper before it's too late. Usama Mir, Mohammad Ali and David Willey are the consistent performers with the ball for Multan Sultans, while Rizwan, Reeza Hendricks, Dawid Malan and Iftikhar Ahmed take care of batting duties. A near-perfect team performance has put the Sultans right at the top half of the table. They will aim to continue the dominance, but it's high time that Peshawar Zalmi come up with better plans to restrict the high-flying Sultans.

For Multan Sultans, Mohammad Ali grabbed a three-wicket haul while David Willey and Abbas Afridi took two each. Islamabad United, too, won their opening match. They defeated defending champions Lahore Qalandars by 8 wickets. For Islamabad United, Tymal Mills bagged two scalps. In response, Islamabad United rode unbeaten and blistering fifties by their skipper Shadab Khan and Agha Salman to seal the deal with 10 balls remaining.

India are wonderfully placed at the start of day two. However there was a bit of wobble early in their innings after electing to bat first. They lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) Shubman Gill (0) and Rajat Patidar (5) in quick succession as they were reduced to 33/3 in the ninth over. Skipper Rohit was joined by Jadeja and both led the recovery work. The pair of Rohit and Jadeja held the innings nicely. The Indian skipper was dropped by Joe Root at first slip early in the innings and he pounced on the opportunity. He made sure that the English side pays a heavy price as he brought up his ton. Rohit and Jadeja put 204 between them before the former fell on 131. In walked debutant Sarfaraz and he played positively from the word go. Sarfaraz notched up a beautiful half-century in his debut innings and looked settled for a big score before being run out on 62. Jadeja brought up his century and remained unbeaten on 110 along with night-watchman Kuldeep Yadav (1*) as India finished day one on 326/5. Mark Wood has picked up three scalps for the English side. The second new ball is just three overs old and the visitors will look to make full use of it early on day two. Jadeja looked solid at the crease on day one and will be looking to go big and score a daddy hundred today. The English side meanwhile will be looking to pull back things by picking regular wickets on day two. his brings 3000 runs Jadeja in Test cricket. the pads on a fuller length Ravindra Jadeja waits flicks it through deep mid-wicket for a boundary. Vikram Rathour (India batting coach): "There were a few jitters with the scoreboard reading 33/3. I won't be lying. But that can happen on the first day on a fresh wicket. A couple of good balls. So yeah there were a few jitters but the way two pros batted it was really good to see. The dropped players do understand that the team management is really backing the players and giving them enough opportunities. But we have to go with what the team needs at certain times. In case of Axar that was the real case. But on this surface we thought we needed a wrist spinner who can turn the ball a little more. Bharat is a tough one actually. He is being doing well. He got a few opportunities but really couldn't convert those starts. I thought the team management decided to go with some change. We always knew that Sarfaraz can play spin well. But it was good to see him do that on this occasion and this stage." Pitch Report (Deep Dasgupta and Nick Knight): Deep Dasgupta: "As observed yesterday there is nothing for the bowlers apart from the first hour or so. Good pitch to bat on. What we have one day two I have got Nick Knight here with me. Nick what's your assessment for day two?" Nick Knight: "Well not different from what we saw yesterday. The only difference I see is that the cracks are a bit larger here. It's dried out. There is enough in the pitch to hold it together and it will be another good day for batting. Jadeja breaches the 100 finally! A sensational innings from the southpaw at his home ground. It's essentially a good pitch to bat on. But with cracks this big and they are opening up there will be an odd ball that will misbehave. A lot of the English bowlers bowled round the wicket yesterday so there is a rough there for maybe Ashwin to bowl into. But even if we talk a lot about it it's still a good pitch to bat on." Having retired from international cricket in August 2020, Dhoni remains active only in the IPL. Recently, a picture of Dhoni practicing in the nets has gone viral. In the picture of him practicing in the nets, Dhoni was seen donning the sticker of “Prime Sports” on his bat. It is worth noting that Prime Sports is a shop in Ranchi owned by Dhoni's friend Paramjit Singh.
