Serbia captain Maja Aleksic: "I am very happy that we won the third set though we lost the game. Tomorrow we will play against team China, I am very much looking forward to that." Germany captain Denise Hanke: "I think we did pretty well in the first two sets but in the following set we came back very late, so it was almost impossible for us to win the third set. We knew that team Serbia was very strong physically and attacked very strong in serve. We made some substitutions in the third set and we are very happy to win the fourth set." Serbia coach Branko Kovacevic: "Congratulations to both teams and especially to team Germany. I think the game after the first set was very interesting because there were many nice long rallies. We could really improve our reception especially the organization in first attack. In the middle of the game we had the chance to come back but team Germany had a very good serve and caused many problems to us. It was very difficult to play against Germany. But tomorrow is a new game. Team China is much stronger than us. Our target is to give these young players more opportunities to play at this level of competition and to enjoy the game." Germany head coach Felix Koslowski: "Congratulations to team Serbia since they fought very hard on the court. We did well in serve but it was not easy for us to hold on to the end. Many coaches always say they have a young team on court but I have to say team Serbia is really young and an interesting new generation. Actually it does not matter how mature they are. Even when they lagged five or six points behind, they always fought hard and did an amazing job." Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes: "I’m very happy for today’s victory. However, our team made a few unnecessary mistakes during the first and second sets, especially in the transition phase. We had a problem blocking Serbia's attacks. It's one of the things we need to improve for the next games. Thanks for the hospitality and all the organization, and a special thanks to the Japanese volleyball fans who supported us so warmly." Brazil captain Natalia Pereira: "Today was a very important victory for our team. Serbia are a very young team, but they played very high level volleyball. I was so happy to get the victory from them." Serbia coach Branko Kovacevic: "Today was not such a good game for both Serbia and Brazil. Brazil fought against us with not only experience, but also quality especially in their block, defence and combinations. Young players like Maya got some more experience from this game." Serbia captain Katarina Lazovic: "Brazil are a great team, however we devoted everything to this game. I am proud of my girls. We will go to China for the next round and wish Brazil and us all the best." ✅ Subscribe ©Titans Volleyball LIFE ➤ https://goo-gl.me/bxJU1 ===================================================== | Kortrijk, Belgium, June 4, 2019 - Even without their top guns, reigning world champions Serbia stopped table leaders Poland in their tracks Tuesday evening at Kortrijk with a very convincing 3-0 (27-25 25-21, 25-22) win on the opening day of Week 3 of the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League. It was Serbia's fourth win in seven matches, masterfully executed by teenager Katarina Lazovic who led the Balkan side in scoring with 18 points. The 19-year-old outside hitter provided an exceptional show overall and thrilled Serbia fans who got a very promising glimpse of what the furture generation has to offer. Poland's opposite Malwina Smarzek was still top scorer of the game on 19 points, but with an attacking efficiency of just 36% (19/52) rather below the standard that earned her last week three entries (including an all-time VNL high) in the list of 30+ points scorers. That leaves Turkey, who had earlier defeated the Dominican Republic in Bangkok in four sets, and Italy, who had previously downed the Netherlands also in four at Hong Kong, standing in first place at 5-1 - though USA could well catch up later in the dayif they beat Korea at home in Nebraska. Poland had a chance to set off on a better note, when they led 22-24 in the first set. But a series of mostly unforced errors evaporated their two set balls and allowed Serbia to overtake them and take the set on their own second set point. A couple of substitutions in the starting lineup of the third set by Polish coach Jacek Nawrocki hardly made an impact, as Branko Kovacevic (standing in this week for Serbia head coach Zoran Terzic) remained with his starting lineup throughout - in fact not even making any substitutions at all in the second and third sets. And just as Poland closed in to 23-22 in the third in a feeble attempt at a comeback, 23-year-old setter Sladjana Mirkovic brought it home, taking Serbia to match point with a first-touch attack and then stepping up to the service line to deliver an astounding ace in the far corner.

Brazil, will now compete in their fifth straight and sixth overall final of a World Championship, vying for their fourth world title. The South Americans will face on Sunday in the final the winner of the second semifinal, following at 21:15 local time (19:15 GMT), between defending champions Poland and USA. Serbia will play for bronze against the loser of the Poland v Serbia game. It took Brazil two pair of extraordinarily accurate hands to catch the pass for the final against Serbia: Bruno Rezende and William Arjona took turns and made the Selecao unmarkable as Brazil dominated completely. When they first met, early in the tournament, their minds seemed to be full of doubts about their true potential; but some twenty days later, Serbia and Brazil entered the semifinals as the two teams that had grown the most along the way - and with very clear ideas on what to do. A nearly packed Pala Alpitour could appreciate an impressive offensive quality in both teams, as Brazil ended with a 61% attack percentage and Serbia "only" 52%. The first two sets were dominated by Bruno, whose hands gave Brazil the chance to play their best offensive volleyball so far: old friend Lucas Saatkamp (10 points, 7/7 attack) allowed the son of legendary Bernardo to propose a number of first tempo attacks that you will not find in volleyball playbooks. Felipe 'Lipe' Fonteles was the go-to guy when the ball was hot - and did not disappoint, closing his match with 8 out of 12 attacks transformed without suffering killer blocks or making errors. In the third set the Serbians opted for a change of attitude, driven by Aleksandar Atanasijevic (16 points) and Uros Kovacevic (71% attack, 14 points). The double-handed lob, a signature play for Uros, created confusion in the Brazilian defensive line, and coach Renan Dal Zotto chose to put William Arjona in as he had successfully did against Russia. And the 39-year old backup setter not only gave the Brazilians fresh offensive ideas, but he also single-handedly blocked Marko Ivovic in the decisive action of the match, giving Lucas the chance to close it.
