The Kazan players got into the game faster: they immediately made it difficult for their opponents to receive the ball, and Maxim Mikhailov was good in attack. However, his opponent, Maxim Sapozhkov, lost his first balls: he was blocked by Mikhail Labinsky and hit an out, forcing Konstantin Bryansky to take a timeout at a score of 2:7. Lokomotiv returned to their home court after a difficult away series, where the railway workers' winning streak was interrupted. La partita andata in scena al PalaPanini ha decretato il successo dei padroni di casa, che mettono in cantiere la prima gara della serie per staccare il pass delle Semifinali Scudetto. Al netto del primo set, i ragazzi di coach Piazza hanno combattuto con le unghie e con i denti il secondo e il terzo parziale. Piano e compagni hanno ancora la possibilità di pareggiare i conti domenica prossima all’Allianz Cloud: dalla loro parte sicuramente ci sarà il fattore casalingo e la voglia di riscatto che sicuramente farà da leit motiv questa settimana in preparazione a gara 2. Nimir torna in campo dopo l’infortunio, mentre tra le fila di Milano risponde assente Barthèlèmy Chinenyeze fuori per un fastidio muscolare, ma in fase di recupero per gara 2. Dunque coach Piazza si affida al sestetto titolare con Porro-Romanò sulla diagonale principale, Jaeschke-Ishikawa in banda, Piano-Mosca al centro e libero Pesaresi. Giani risponde con la formazione: Bruno al palleggio, Nimir opposto, Ngapeth E. – Leal schiacciatori, Stankovic-Mazzone centrali e libero Rossini. Primo parziale a senso unico per la Leo Shoes: i bombardieri emiliani mettono i crisi la ricezione dei meneghini che faticano a costruire il gioco e subiscono il ritmo di Bruno e compagni. Non c’è storia per i ragazzi di coach Piazza, dopo il break subìto con l’ace di Nimir, Piano e compagni perdono contatto con i modenesi (5-2). Prova il doppio cambio Milano con Daldello e Patry, ma Modena vola via, doppia il punteggio (20-10), per poi concludere la prima frazione 25-13 con l’errore in difesa di Milano. Secondo set più equilibrato, Milano si toglie un po’ di ruggine e se la gioca punto a punto con gli uomini di coach Giani. Possibilità di break accolta da Piano e compagni sul 16 pari, Mosca mette a segno il suo primo tempo e il tecnico di Modena chiama time out (16-17). Giro di boa per Milano che con il muro di Ishikawa su Nimir accumula un vantaggio di tre punti (16-19). Milano però deve fare i conti con il servizio dell’opposto olandese, che già nel primo set aveva incrinato le certezze della ricezione meneghina, Modena azzera il distacco e si riporta a quota 19. Parziale di 7-0 per gli emiliani che oltre a recuperare lo svantaggio, avanzano 23-19 su Milano, infiammando il PalaPanini. Il muro di Stankovic su Jaeschke però non dà possibilità a Piano e compagni di allungare il secondo parziale che termina 25-22. Nel terzo parziale coach Piazza inizia con Patry al posto di Romanò. All’insegna dell’equilibrio anche la terza frazione, Milano e Modena viaggiano mano per mano. La prima occasione di allungo ce l’ha la compagine emiliana con l’attacco di Nimir che segna il doppio vantaggio (6-4), annullato poco dopo con Mosca al centro, le squadre si trovano a quota 8. Occasione di allungo, questa volta per Milano: sul punteggio di 10-11, Ishikawa rifila due ace consecutivi portandosi a +3 sulla Leo Shoes. Modena non resta a guardare e recupera il gap, Mazzone segna il +2 con il suo primo tempo (17-15), coach Piazza è costretto al time out. Il block out di Romanò ristabilisce la parità a quota 17. Milano rimane aggrappata a Modena e al set, nonostante il punteggio sia caldo; l’ace di Nimir non scompone la formazione meneghina (23-20), che ricuce con il muro di Patry su Leal 23-22.
