Lakers skills and movement expert Dr.Raj, DPT details Anthony Davis playoffs readiness and how close he is to 100% healthy by breaking down the film to assess how he’s moving across nine different movement components, spread out over 34 clips| Is Anthony Davis playoffs ready & near 100% healthy? Expert explains | Lakers analysis For reference, I’m a sports scientist, youth basketball coach, DPT (Doctor of Physio), movement expert, researcher, mindfulness enthusiast and owner of 3CB Performance —providing sports medicine, performance, and mindfulness services online and in-person at clinics in West LA and Valencia, CA. Lakers superstar Anthony Davis has been back on the floor for about 3.5 weeks after missing nearly 3 months. AD getting back on the floor and ramping up was critical for the team’s repeat hopes and I broke down how he’s looking in key movement components heading into the play-in game. Straight line speed AD has shown really good progress with his straight line speed on the court, whether that’s longer sprints for top end speed or on short recovery burst sprints. Change of direction AD continues to show improvement in his change of direction and getting back to his unique movement skills for a player of his size. Lateral movement Davis’ has been moving really well laterally. Jumping A key issue for AD when he returned was limited lift and limited rebound jumps but he’s progressed with both significantly. Contact/leverage A key thing I look for is how a player is responding to contact when they return from injury. AD is becoming more and more confident in absorbing and delivering contact. Acceleration Davis continues to progress with his acceleration and first step. If you remember, he reaggravated his achilles issue = on an acceleration so this progress gives a lot of insight into his improved health. Reaction AD’s reaction time and acclimation to game speed continues to improve. Rhythm and fluidity One of the last things to return after an extended absence is rhythm and fluidity in movements. AD is progressively showing each in all facets of his game. Confidence Last but certainly not least is confidence. After a long layoff or scary injury, players can have kinesiophobia (aka fear of movement or reinjury) which limits their movement. AD continues to show he’s over that fear with a variety of incredible plays. This bodes really well for the Lakers’ repeat hopes
Lakers and basketball skills expert Raj breaks down the Nikola Jokic vs Marc Gasol matchup following the Denver Nuggets - Los Angeles Lakers game this past Monday (93-89 win for the Lakers), including why Gasol matches up very well with Jokic on both ends of the floor and why other Lakers center Andre Drummond struggled defending Nikola Jokic | Nikola Jokic vs Marc Gasol | The Lakers' answer for the likely MVP? | Lakers skills breakdown For reference, I’m a sports scientist, youth basketball coach, DPT (Doctor of Physio), movement expert, researcher, mindfulness enthusiast and owner of 3CB Performance —providing sports medicine, performance, and mindfulness services online and in-person at clinics in West LA and Valencia, CA. During the Lakers 93-89 win over the Denver Nuggets on Monday, Lakers’ center Marc Gasol went toe to toe with likely-MVP Nikola Jokic, notching a team high +17 for the night. He showcased why his particular skills, skills he’s developed over a very long career, could be a very viable matchup - maybe even a nightmare - for Jokic should these teams meet in the postseason. Lets go through it in more detail - take notes Andre Drummond. Defense The key thing when guarding Jokic is that you have to be a disciplined, positional defender. Watch here how Marc keeps his hands in a contest position but not in a spot where Jokic could potentially rip through them and bait fouls - which he does all too often - and then moves his feet when Jokic commits the dribble. Marc goes up on the pump fake but he’s able to contort himself to avoid the foul while still contesting. Another example here and this time Gasol times his contest to block Nikola’s shot. Drummond has issues with Jokic because Andre tends to rely on his elite hand speed and athleticism. Here Andre goes for the wraparound steal which Nikola easily reads for an uncontested layup. Further, Gasol does a very good job of leveraging his strength and absorbing the force - often taking the contact to Jokic early on - while still staying grounded and in good position. Here he keeps Jokic out of the restricted area and gets a very good contest on the turnaround. Great shot but you live with that, tip of the cap. To contrast that, Jokic is able to get much deeper on Drummond - part of which is due to where Nikola catches the ball - and then Drummond falls for a pump fake which enables Jokic to score easily on the up and under. Clear contrast in styles and Jokic preys on defender’s reaching or overplaying. He’s a master at reading those openings whereas Marc is elite at concealing them. Offense Additionally - on the offensive end - Marc’s added element of spacing and outside shooting forces Jokic to stay engaged and attached or give up open looks like this.
NBA and Lakers injury expert Dr. Raj, DPT details LeBron James injury update - delving into the ankle soreness LeBron has been dealing with since his return from a high ankle sprain (syndesmotic tear) - causing him to leave vs the Raptors after his normal rotation in the 4th and not close the game and sit out vs the Denver Nuggets in a back to back - and if the soreness is anything to be worried about right now or moving forward | LeBron James injury update | Is his “ankle soreness” concerning? | LeBron injury breakdown For reference, I’m a DPT (Doctor of Physio), youth basketball coach, sports scientist, movement expert, researcher, mindfulness enthusiast and owner of 3CB Performance —providing sports medicine, performance, and mindfulness services online and in-person at clinics in West LA and Valencia, CA. Lakers superstar LeBron James left the court vs the Toronto Raptors after his normal rotation in the 4th quarter - not returning to close the game - and was held out of the back to back game vs the Nuggets last night as well. Following the Raptors game, Coach Frank Vogel described the issue as “ankle soreness that is expected” and the next morning Shams also described it as ankle soreness. Woj called the issue a “reaggravation” which was likely due to a lack of medical nuance from sources. So is there anything to be concerned about? LeBron’s ankle soreness is completely expected and part of the reacclimation process, especially since he didn’t complete any practices or 5v5 work prior to jumping into games. That increase in intensity comes with a response and he further said he had soreness in both 2nd halves which makes sense because now you’re dealing with higher stress over time. Coach Vogel again reiterated last night that Bron is day to day and only dealing with soreness with Lakers reporter Mike Trudell explicitly saying there was no setback. This is all part of the process, Bron will continue to get treatment and be day to day with the Lakers managing his workload, esp on back to backs which Coach Vogel said prior to LeBron coming back. The team is telling us everything we need to know, we just have to listen.

Lets go through key skills & highlights of his defensive masterclass. To top it all off, he also assisted on Karim Benzema’s leveling goal. Lakers point guard Dennis Schroder returned after missing four games due to health & safety protocols and boy, did the team miss him often looking lackadaisical on both ends of the floor and losing all four games. However, that all changed vs the Portland Trailblazers with the dynamic German international showcasing his impact on both sides of the floor Let’s start on the offensive end. Dennis was dynamic in the pick and roll out of multiple looks. He showed off a crafty 1-2 game And created havoc with paint penetration. Defensively, his point of attack ball pressure made an immediate difference, especially key vs the lethal Damian Lillard. Was sharp off the ball with quick, anticipatory rotations Last but not least, he brought his pure junkyard, outwork you mentality. Here not giving an inch to the much larger Rodney Hood and getting the steal. Welcome back Dennis. We missed you.
