Auburn scored seven runs in innings 12 through 14 to ultimately defeat No. 20 Georgia, 10-6, in 14 innings and even the series Friday night at Foley Field. Ryan Dyal hit the go-ahead RBI double to get the scoring started in the four-run 14th. Ryan Bliss followed with a two-run home run to left center – his 10th of the year – and Rankin Woley capped off the frame with a solo homer off the batter's eye – his sixth of the season. Will Morrison (1-0, 0.75) recorded the final eight outing for the Tigers, allowing just one unearned run, and earned his first career win. "I just think about a program that's done what we've done the three or four years," head coach Butch Thompson said. "Since 2017, you've played at least in a regional final ever year. A program as special as Auburn, we can stomach a span like we've been through. "What a program can't stomach, and what our people can't stomach, and what a coach can't stomach is just not competing with your heart every single day, letting the chips fall where they may at the end, and I got that today from our ballclub." The 14-inning game was the team's longest since going 15 innings against Arkansas in 2019.
Auburn jumped out to a one-run lead on a solo home run from Tyler Miller in the first and never relinquished its advantage, ultimately defeating Alabama 5-4 Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Jack Owen (1-2, 7.36) earned his first win of the season in the quality start. The senior lefty pitched a season high 7.0 innings and struck out a season high eight batters. He allowed three runs on eight hits with one walk. Freshman righty Carson Swilling pitched the final 2.0 innings and struck out three en route to earning his first collegiate save. "Jack just did a great job and gave Swilling a short rope, something that he could finish," head coach Butch Thompson said. "It was nice to only use two guys tonight and we have an opportunity to come out and win a series tomorrow." Owen's eight strikeouts in the contest were the second most by an Auburn starter this season, and the Tigers struck out double digit batters for the second straight night.
Auburn shut out Little Rock for the second straight day, defeating the Trojans 6-0 to clinch the series Saturday at Plainsman Park. It marks the first time Auburn has turned in back-to-back shutouts this season, and the Tigers pitching staff now hasn't allowed a run in 21.1 innings dating back to Tuesday. "It's been a good week and I'd like to finish it off strong," head coach Butch Thompson said. "It's another opportunity tomorrow. These guys responded well and had a good week of pitching. Hopefully we can finish it off strong tomorrow." Sophomore Mason Barnett (2-0, 0.51) earned his second straight win after throwing a career high 7.0 scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just two hits with one walk and also turned in a career best with nine strikeouts. "I feel pretty good," Barnett said following his start. "That was definitely something I was trying to do today, and I'm feeling really good after that. I had great defense behind me and I wasn't trying to do too much." Barnett is the first Auburn pitcher to throw 7.0 innings and strike out nine in a game this season.
Auburn and LSU battled to a 0-0 draw at the Auburn Soccer Complex Friday night. With the result, Auburn has now either defeated or tied LSU in 11 straight contests dating back to 2011. The result also marks the Tigers' second straight shutout and the team's fifth of the season. Auburn hasn't allowed a goal in a span of 268:14 dating back to its contest against Arkansas in the SEC Tournament. "I thought we started the game really slow, but we grew into the contest and created enough chances to win," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We just couldn't find the back of the net." Auburn was the aggressor throughout much of the contest as the home Tigers outshot LSU 16-6 and put seven shots on frame.
