JT Thor and Allen Flanigan combined for 47 points, but a late comeback bid from Auburn came up short Saturday as the Tigers lost, 82-80, at Kentucky. Down 12 with six minutes remaining, Auburn scored six unanswered points in less than 30 seconds to cut the lead in half. Then Thor went to work. He grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in for two. He buried a 3. He made another tough basket inside off the glass. The freshman scored 12 of the team’s final 14 points down the stretch. The only points not accounted for by Thor was a fastbreak layup from Flanigan that tied the game at 77-77 with less than a minute to go. Kentucky answered with a 3 on the other end, though, giving the Wildcats the lead for good.

Auburn vs Vanderbilt Highlights | Men's Basketball - February 9, 2021

Bruce Pearl has been harping defense to his young Auburn team. Message received. The Tigers held Vanderbilt to 67 points Tuesday night and made winning plays late to earn a 73-67 victory on the road.   Offensively, it was Jamal Johnson who had the hot hand for Auburn. The junior guard finished with 19 points and was 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. It’s the fourth time this season where Johnson has made five or more 3s in a game, including three in SEC play.   Fellow guard Sharife Cooper matched Johnson with 19 points and scored 18 of his 19 in the second half. The freshman was 10 of 11 from the free throw line and also dished out a team-high seven assists – two of which came on back-to-back possessions early in the second half where he threw lobs to Devan Cambridge and Allen Flanigan for dunks.   Cambridge and Flanigan both finished in double figures as well. Cambridge had 11 points and made a clutch 3 late while Flanigan scored all 10 of his points after halftime and made four consecutive free throws in the final minute to help seal the victory.

Jaylin Williams led Auburn with 21 points but Georgia led from start to finish Tuesday at Auburn Arena, winning 91-86 to split the season series. "Disappointing loss," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said. "We had an opportunity to sweep Georgia for only the fourth time in 37 years. Since I got here we've done it twice, had a chance to do it three out of the last four years. The reason why it's not been done very often is it's not easy to do. It's hard." Sharife Cooper scored 19 points and had nine assists, and five Tigers reached double figures, but Georgia outscored Auburn 52-34 in the paint to hold off every challenge the home team mounted. "They came out being more physical," said Chris Moore, who contributed five points and three rebounds in 14 minutes. "I feel like they wanted it more than we did." The Tigers started hot in the second half, twice cutting a 10-point deficit to three on Williams' buckets, but a 9-0 Georgia run gave the Bulldogs a 69-54 lead before Jamal Johnson's 3-pointer pulled the Tigers within a dozen with 10 minutes to play.

Jaylin Williams scored 17 points to lead five Tigers in double figures and Auburn threatened No. 2 Baylor for a half before the unbeaten Bears pulled away to win 84-72 Saturday in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Williams was 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 on 3-pointers. Sharife Cooper scored 15 points, JT Thor scored 13, Allen Flanigan added 11 and Devan Cambridge scored 10. Williams and Flanigan shared Auburn's rebounding lead with eight apiece. Flanigan led Auburn with six assists while Cooper grabbed seven rebounds and dished five assists. Leading by five at the half, Baylor (16-0) made its first four shots of the second half to build a double-digit lead. The Tigers made seven of their last eight shots to trim a 21-point deficit to a dozen. Auburn trailed 35-30 at halftime after outrebounding Baylor 27-19 in the first 20 minutes.

Allen Flanigan scored a career-high 24 points to lead five Tigers in double figures Saturday in Auburn's 109-86 road rout of South Carolina, a program record for points in an SEC road game. "Everybody who comes to Auburn, we come here to make history," Flanigan said. "We made history tonight." With an assortment of alley-oops, drive-and-dishes and no-looks, freshman Sharife Cooper distributed 12 assists and scored 16 points in just his fifth collegiate game. Jaylin Williams scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. JT Thor added 14 points and seven rebounds. Devan Cambridge scored 10 points. Auburn (9-7, 3-5) defeated the Gamecocks (3-5, 1-3) for the third straight time.
