Texas Longhorns Football Schedule: Texas Longhorns vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders Preview Ari Temkin of SiriusXM and Orangebloods.com is joined by Chris Level of RedRaiderSports.com to discuss the Texas Longhorns Week 4 contest in Austin, Texas against the Texas Tech Red Raiders to begin Big 12 play. Texas football is coming a 58-0 victory over the Rice Owls at Darrell K. Royal (DKR) Texas Memorial Stadium. Texas Tech football looks a lot different in 2021 than they did in 2020. Chris Level discusses Oregon transfer QB Tyler Shough and new offensive coordinator and former Tech QB Sonny Cumbie. Shough is 6'5'' 230, he can run and has a big arm. Tech also has a standout WR in Erik Ezukanma and a crowded backfield with Tahj Brooks and last year's leading rusher Sarodorick Thompson. Level says the Texas Tech offense is much different in 2021 than it was in 2020 with David Yost. Yost ran a lot of 11 personnel, or one running back and one TE. With new offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie Tech is running a lot of differing schemes and formations. Defensively, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have been very impressing against the run. Longhorns Safety Brandon Schooler's brother is one of the best players on the Tech defense, Colin Schooler. Texas Longhorns Football player that is about to blow up & what it means for UT football recruiting. Geoff Ketchum, publisher of Orangebloods.com as well as Texas Longhorns beat reporter Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods discuss the growth and development of Xavier Worthy and what his unprecedented ascension, plus what it means for Texas football recruiting. Freshman WR Xavier Worthy has really moved into a role that is unlike any freshman receiver Texas has ever seen. We've seen Texas football receivers be successful in year 1, but nothing like the role X seems to be taking on at University of Texas. Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian believes Xavier Worthy is good enough to be the Longhorns top wide receiver, even as a freshman. He has incredible big play potential and Sark even talked about his "mental make-up" and how much that factors into his emergence as a true freshman receiver. Worthy getting the opportunities that he's getting already as a freshman at Texas means he could go down as one of the greatest wide receivers in the history of the Texas program, because he's going to have so many opportunities over the next few years. But, the bigger piece here is what his immediate ascention could mean for the future of UT Longhorns recruiting and could the immediate play and production help lure a guy like, 5 Star recruit, Evan Stewart. Do we know MUCH about the Texas Longhorns Football team under Steve Sarkisian? Overreaction Monday. Geoff Ketchum, publisher of Orangebloods.com, and Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods, overreact to Steve Sarkisian's Monday press conference after Texas defeated Rice 58-0 on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Darrell K. Royal (DKR) Texas Memorial Stadium. After three games what do we really know about the 2021 Texas Longhorns football team? Texas got a victory over Rice, after an impressive Week 1 win over Louisiana followed by a disappointing week 2 loss to Arkansas. Geoff Ketchum believes he knows what he has in QB Casey Thompson, but he's specifically unsure of what Texas has along their offensive line and who is a receiver that they can count on to make big plays when needed. Texas football now hits a stretch, beginning Big 12 play, that will alllow us to get some of these questions answered. Texas Longhorns schedule over the next three weeks: Texas Tech on Saturday, September 25, 2021, followed by TCU in Fort Worth and then of course the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma. Casey Thompson was referred to as a "gamer," by Steve Sarkisian this week during his Monday press conference following their Week 3 victory over the Rice Owls. The gamer label for Texas QB Casey Thompson is not something Casey doesn't like. He embraces the idea that there's a different level of play that comes out while he's on the field for a game, instead of in practice. Geoff Ketchum: "This is not a Casey Thompson or Hudson Card discussion for me, as much as this is still an offense that is trying to create more playmakers and more players that it can trust." Texas is currently 5th in the Big 12 in total offense, 5th in scoring offense and 7th in the Big 12 in passing offense. It was a humbling loss for the Texas football team after their Week 1 victory over Louisiana. Texas Longhorns freshman WR Xavier Worthy visited with Serenity Douglas of OrangeBloods.com to discuss the loss, how the offense played and what the offensive staff including Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian is doing to help the team move forward. Xavier Worthy said Saturday's loss to Arkansas Razorbacks was his first loss in nearly three years of football. He mentioned how crazy it was to be on the field at Razorback Stadium when the fans stormed the field. Xavier Worthy said he had a ton of people running up to him throwing the Horns down. Xavier said the Texas Longhorns might have underestimated Arkansas: "We just weren't ready. I feel like we underestimated them during the week. We were practicing hard, but we weren't practicing how we normally practice, we were taking it lightly." Texas QB Hudson Card struggled completing just 8/15 passes for 61 yards. But, Casey Thompson came into the game and played better than Card. The two QB's Hudson Card and Casey Thompson battled it out all fall and Card was named the Week 1 starter, but Steve Sarkisian has changed QB's and named Thompson the starter Week 3 vs. Rice Owls. Xavier mentioned both are really good QB's, but that Casey Thompson is more experienced. Worthy said Hudson will be better for the experience he's faced the first two weeks of the Texas football season: "I feel like he's going to be the next best thing after Casey." Texas Football: DeMarvion Overshown on Casey Thompson vs. Hudson Card & the Texas D getting exposed The Texas Longhorns lost 40-21 to SEC opponent, Arkansas Razorbacks. It was a humbling loss for the Texas football team after their Week 1 victory over Louisiana. Texas star LB DeMarvion Overshown joined Serenity Douglas of OrangeBloods.com to discuss the loss, how the defense played and what they learned about themselves during a revealing 40-21 loss to Arkansas Razorbacks. DeMarvion also made the point multiple times to reiterate what Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian told the team in the locker room after the loss to Arkansas: "Don't let this game define us." As a leader on the Texas football team and a leader on the UT defense, Overshown said it's imperative that he gets to work to set an example for the rest of the team of how you should react after a tough loss. Overshown said after the game Steve Sarkisian told the team that the little mistakes Texas made, Arkansas did not make. "Last Saturday is not what's going to define this team," Overshown mentioned an early season loss can help expose the team to what they need to improve upon. DeMarvion Overshown believes the team learned a ton more from the loss to Arkansas than they ever could have learned throughout fall camp and into the Louisiana game. Overshown mentioned some of their flaws were covered up by the Louisiana win, that they learned about themselves in the Arkansas loss. Texas QB Hudson Card struggled completing just 8/15 passes for 61 yards. But, Casey Thompson came into the game and played better than Card. The two QB's Hudson Card and Casey Thompson battled it out all fall and Card was named the Week 1 starter, but Steve Sarkisian has changed QB's and named Thompson the starter Week 3 vs. Rice Owls. DeMarvion said the Texas football team could tell that Hudson Card was uncomfortable at the beginning of the Arkansas game, and it got worse when things didn't go his way. Overshown mentioned "In seeing Casey everyday, he prepares to be the starter, so we knew when the change was coming that Casey was going to do what Casey know how to do. He was able to use his legs and his experience [to his advantage.]" DeMarvion also told Serenity: "You could tell Casey was a little bit more comfortable when he got in."
