For the first time in 2022 Mercedes had a race-winning car at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and almost inevitably Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen wasted little time in adding to their infamous list of collisions. While Hamilton recovered to finish a close second to team-mate George Russell, Verstappen could only make it back to sixth after pitting for a new front wing and later serving a five second penalty for causing the collision. In this video we’re going to explain why the stewards felt Verstappen was at fault, and we’ll also get into how we think this decision shows the increasingly specific guidance around wheel-to-wheel combat that was introduced for this year is flawed. 00:00 First clash of the year 00:40 Why Verstappen was punished 03:01 Flaws in the rules 05:42 Can they race each other? #MaxVerstappen #LewisHamilton #BrazilianGP READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/how-verstappen-hamilton-feud-fits-in-with-f1s-racing-rules/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Formula 1’s crazy 2023 silly season made a mockery of some teams that took certain plans for granted, and rewarded those that were ruthless in getting their targets. It also left some drivers out in the cold and gave new opportunities to various others - some expected, some less so. For one team that had a particularly turbulent time in the driver market, though, the last few months have led to a particularly big gamble for 2023 - banking on a driver that was on nobody’s radar barely a year ago. #F1 #F1news #F12023 00:00 Off the radar 00:30 F1's crazy driver market 02:48 Williams's gamble 05:33 What's Plan B? What's gone wrong for Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren after he shone at Red Bull and Renault in F1? Mark Hughes explains how the weakness Ricciardo's shown over the last two years was probably always there, it had just never been brought out by the previous cars he'd driven. #F1 #DanielRicciardo #McLaren Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Max Verstappen’s path to winning the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship with four races to spare could not have been more different to the journey to his first title. Last year, he prevailed on the very last lap in the most intense title fight in history. But as this season has gone on, his progress has become increasingly serene. Winning this year’s title has been easier for Verstappen than in 2021. How could it not be given last year’s fight between him and Lewis Hamilton was so acrimonious? But it has allowed him to show, for the first time, a trait he shares with all the greats in F1 history. That’s not to say Verstappen hadn’t already shown his brilliance prior to this year, but every championship campaign has a different character that allows a driver to show a different dimension to their skillset. To identify and understand this legendary trait, we need to take a detailed look at how Verstappen has gone about taking what has ultimately proved to be one of the most comfortable championship wins in F1 history. #F1 #MaxVerstappen #RedBull Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
The FIA has officially confirmed that Red Bull overspent and breached Formula 1’s cost cap regulations during Max Verstappen’s first title-winning season in 2021. But the much-anticipated announcement from the governing body contained no details of the exact nature or precise scale of the breach, and said the penalty was still being discussed. Ferrari and Mercedes have made very clear they believe the laptime value of even what’s officially classed as a ‘minor’ breach would be considerable, and have already called for “severe” action long before the official announcement. But Red Bull refuses to back down. Not only does it remain adamant it came in under the cost cap for 2021, it has promised to follow the FIA’s processes to challenge the outcome, and hasn’t ruled out taking further action if necessary. To work out what happens next in this saga, Glenn Freeman is joined by Edd Straw and Ben Anderson to discuss all the details. #F1 #RedBull #F1costcap READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/our-verdict-on-red-bull-f1-overspend-and-wait-for-penalty/
A superlicence is a driver’s ticket to ride in Formula 1. As Colton Herta recently discovered, even if you have the offer of a race seat, without the right paperwork you cannot compete in F1. Currently, to qualify for an FIA Formula 1 Driver Super Licence – to use its official name – you must accumulate 40 points based on your achievements in three of the past four years. As a look back through Formula 1 history reveals, there are eight world champions who would likely have failed in their bids for a superlicence were the current system in place. #F1 #Formula1 #superlicence Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
The 2023 driver market has offered a Formula 1 silly season for the ages - and it’s still not over. Three teams have seats to fill for next season and, surprisingly at this stage of the year, there are quite a few drivers still in play. We see Alpine, AlphaTauri, Haas and Williams as the teams with vacancies. And the list of drivers in play include race winners Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo, likely Haas refugee Mick Schumacher, out-of-work drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Nico Hulkenberg and rookies such as Nyck de Vries, Jack Doohan and Logan Sargeant. Clearly, there are a lot of pieces to the jigsaw, which we’ll be working through in this video - so keep watching until the end, to see what we think the final picture’s going to look like. #F1 #F1news #F12023 Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Three weeks on from McLaren’s bombshell announcement that Daniel Ricciardo will be dropped at the end of the season despite having a contract for 2023, the eight-times grand prix winner is still without a job for next year. But could Ricciardo take a role Lewis Hamilton says he is too good for? That’s a question Ricciardo must ask himself as he considers whether to pursue a path usually taken by those at the start of their Formula 1 career and take a reserve driver role? It’s hard to imagine a driver who has been an F1 star for the past decade being willing to sit on the sidelines and it’s unlikely Ricciardo would see himself doing that. Unless, that is, it’s with a team that might just offer him a pathway back to the front of the F1 grid. So who better than Mercedes, the pre-eminent F1 team of the past decade? #F1 #DanielRicciardo #Mercedes Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
