What broke F1's policing system in Austrian GP results farce
What broke F1's policing system in Austrian GP results farce

The result of the Austrian Grand Prix was thrown into confusion by a bizarre situation involving one of F1’s most divisive topics. The FIA’s policing system was overwhelmed by an astonishing scenario at the Red Bull Ring in which close to 1500 instances of a car breaching track limits had to be reviewed. It resulted in 12 extra penalties for eight drivers long after the race finished, changing several positions in the top 10. So what on earth happened? Was this a new low for the thorny issue of track limits? And what, if anything, is going to be done about it? 00:00 Post-race confusion 00:35 What happened? 03:02 Unprecedented situation 06:52 Do the rules work? Our verdict on Ferrari's rumoured F1 swoop for Lewis Hamilton
Our verdict on Ferrari's rumoured F1 swoop for Lewis Hamilton

Are Ferrari trying to sign Lewis Hamilton in F1 for next year? It certainly seems that way, with reports emerging from the UK and Italy suggesting that a move is either being considered by Ferrari’s upper management, or an offer could already have been made. 40 million pounds is the number being mentioned, and with Mercedes struggling for a second consecutive season and Hamilton currently out of contract at the end of this year, could the appeal of pulling on the red of Ferrari before he retires from F1 be too strong to ignore? As well as exploring if a case really can be made for Hamilton to ditch Mercedes after 11 mostly incredible years together, we’ll also look at what this move would tell us about how Ferrari’s big bosses are going about trying to fix the team’s problems. F1's chaotic and confusing Australian GP finish explained
F1's chaotic and confusing Australian GP finish explained

The debate over how Formula 1 handles race finishes when there’s a major incident in the closing stages boiled over again at the Australian Grand Prix, where an attempted two-lap showdown after a red flag turned to chaos in a matter of seconds - resulting in a neutralised safety car finish after all. The complaints were led by race winner Max Verstappen and fellow podium finisher Fernando Alonso - who only had his third place restored when the order was reset before the procession to the chequered flag. And large numbers of fans were upset with what they believed was F1 prioritising the show by trying to ensure a green flag finish. So what happened, why did the race officials make the decisions they did, and is there really an ideal solution for these situations? 00:00 Another controversial finish 00:43 Late-race chaos 03:01 FIA decisions explained 06:31 F1's conundrum Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace #f1 #australiangp #f12023 #formula1 #formulaone #f1news #maxverstappen #fernandoalonso #lewishamilton #carlossainz #nicohulkenberg #alpine #redflag #grandprix #therace

The strange F1 rule conflict that saved Fernando Alonso’s podium
The strange F1 rule conflict that saved Fernando Alonso’s podium

Fernando Alonso had a controversial penalty applied in Jeddah after the race - in fact, right after he’d been on the F1 podium at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. It meant he had his trophy literally taken from his hands moments after the podium ceremony, and it was given to George Russell over in the TV interview area instead. But a few hours later, it was Alonso’s once again, in a confusing situation that was F1’s first real penalty controversy of 2023. Here’s what led to Alonso being penalised so late to begin with, and the bizarre rule contradiction that meant Aston Martin got the outcome overturned. 00:00 Podium confusion 00:44 Alonso's penalty 02:14 A flawed rule 03:58 A needless mess Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace #f1 #fernandoalonso #saudiarabiangp #f1news #f12023 #formula1 #formulaone #astonmartin #astonmartinf1 #fia #jeddah #saudiarabia #grandprix #therace

Ferrari's major F1 problem is back - and it's lost a big strength
Ferrari's major F1 problem is back - and it's lost a big strength

Ferrari’s title bid has started in a very disappointing way, after it was easily beaten by Red Bull and its lead car suffered the all too familiar fate of retiring because of an engine problem. New team boss Fred Vasseur said after the season opener in Bahrain that he needed to stick to what he had said in the build-up: that Ferrari could not win or lose the championship at the first race. But it clearly has a big task ahead to catch and beat Red Bull, and its troubled start to the new season didn’t even include a carryover of some of the positives it could take when things went wrong last year. Add in the immediate return of a big 2022 weakness, which was meant to be resolved, and things look even worse. 00:00 A nightmare start 00:52 The big problem 03:21 Lack of speed 06:40 What's the true picture?
