We moved back into the top four thanks to a pulsating victory over Manchester United. It was a highly charged, incident-packed encounter from start to finish. Nuno Tavares and Bukayo Saka fired us into a two-goal lead inside half an hour, before United rallied to halve the deficit through Cristiano Ronaldo. Bruno Fernandes then missed a penalty before Granit Xhaka sealed the points with a superb 25-yard drive. These lunchtime kick offs can often have a sedate atmosphere early on. Not this one. The crowd were up for it from the kick off, and the team responded immediately. There were just two minutes on the clock when Tavares gave us the lead. Xhaka’s deep cross was missed by everyone in the United defence and found its way though to Saka. His shot was parried by David de Gea but Tavares was in the right place at the far post to tuck home. It was the full back’s first goal for the club since joining from Benfica last summer. United came back. Anthony Elanga had a low shot well saved by Aaron Ramsdale before Gabriel put in a great block after Ramsdale had presented the ball to Fernandes. Diogo Dalot was next to go close for the visitors, curling a shot from 20 yards over the keeper and against the crossbar. Chances were coming at both ends, and Eddie Nketiah had a great chance after being slid through on goal by Martin Odegaard but his shot was straight at de Gea. Moments later Nketiah thought he had beaten the keeper, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR for a very close offside call. However there was a foul on Saka in the build up, and a spot kick was awarded instead. For the second time in a week the England man stepped up and netted from the penalty spot. The two-goal advantage didn’t last long. United had been a threat throughout the opening half hour, and pulled a goal back through Cristiano Ronaldo, who stole in at the far post to fire home a looping cross. Ramsdale’s moment of hesitation proved costly. The first half was action-packed, and had flown by. Odegaard had another shot tipped away in injury-time – one of six attempts on target in the opening 45 minutes for us. Tavares should have hit the target soon after the interval. He found space inside the box, beat his man superbly, but blazed a shot high and wide. Tavares’s eventful afternoon continued when he gave away a penalty for handball. Fernandes stepped up, but his shot hit the post and went behind for a goal kick. It was a big let off, and moments later there was another when Ronaldo’s goal was ruled out for offside by the barest of margins. Ramsdale came up with a huge save at his near post to turn Dalot’s shot onto the woodwork. We were living dangerously, but Granit Xhaka’s fierce drive relieved the pressure. He picked up the ball five yards outside the box, shifted it on to his trusty left foot, and arrowed his shot beyond the despairing de Gea just inside the post. The Emirates erupted. With the two-goal cushion restored, we closed out the game to earn a second big win in the space of four days. We ended our three-game losing streak in fine style with a thrilling win at Stamford Bridge. Twice we took the lead in the first half – through Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe - and twice we were pegged back. But two goals without reply after the break – another from former Chelsea academy striker Nketiah and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot - were enough to give us a much-needed victory. Chelsea had had the better of the opening ten minutes. After a flurry of corners Marcos Alonso had a shot deflected just wide. We got enough men back to just about snuff out the chance. Romelu Lukaku then shot wide after a loose pass by Emile Smith Rowe. Mikel Arteta made three changes to the side that had lost at Southampton at the weekend, with Ben White shifting across to the right and Rob Holding coming in to the centre, and the defence took a while to settle. But it was a poor pass from the hosts that gave us the chance to open the scoring. There appeared to be no pressure on Andreas Christensen midway in his own half, but his backpass was woefully underhit, and Nketiah pounced. He took the ball on to the edge of the area, kept his cool and slotted past Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal. It was the striker’s first Premier League goal of the season. But within four minutes it was Nketiah’s turn to give the ball away, and Chelsea levelled. Timo Werner picked up possession outside the box and though his shot seemed to lack power, a deflection wrong footed Aaron Ramsdale the ball rolled in. At the other end Nketiah bobbled a shot just wide after wonderful work from Saka just inside the area. The striker’s shot bounced off his other foot and loop the wrong side of the upright. It was an open game, with plenty of stray passes, and we retook the lead after living dangerously inside our own box. But Granit Xhaka did brilliantly to bring the ball away from danger and launch a counter-attack. Martin Odegaard took the ball on and rolled it square to Smith Rowe to stroke into the corner precisely from the edge of the box. Once again though, the lead didn’t last. Cesar Azpilicueta stole in front of Nuno Tavares to turn home a cross in front of goal. It was 2-2 inside half an hour. Nketiah and Tavares both sent shots wide in immediate response. As the half drew to a close Smith Rowe shot just wide after dancing past three defenders. The keeper was rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the woodwork. The intensity remained high at the start of the second half, and we took the lead for the third time on the hour mark. Tavares’s cross fell to Nketiah, he looked to have been dispossessed but he showed his striker’s instincts to stab home. The challenge was to hold the lead this time. Chelsea came back and Alonso had a shot blocked by Gabriel with Ramsdale beaten. We were getting deeper and deeper as Arteta brought on Cedric as an extra defender. The full back broke free on the right but his pulled back cross was behind Saka. Tavares smashed his chance wide. We continued to soak up the pressure before sealing the points late on. Saka was hauled down in the box by Azpilicueta, and stepped up himself to thump in goal number four. We fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, with goals from Leandro Trossard and Enock Mwepu handing The Seagulls all three points despite a wonder-goal from Martin Odegaard late on. After defeat last time out to Crystal Place and injuries to key players, it was crucial we got off to a good start against Brighton in north London, but it wasn't to be. Chances were few and far between for the Gunners in the opening exchanges, with Bukayo Saka's back-post cross to Gabriel Magalhaes representing our best move in the first 25 minutes. Three minutes later, though, we were behind. Brighton played a long clearance upfield into the right-hand channel towards Mwepu who picked out Trossard inside the box. The 27-year-old forward only needed a touch to bend the ball past Aaron Ramsdale and into the top corner to give Graham Potter's side the advantage. We upped the tempo after falling behind as we looked to get back on level terms. Granit Xhaka slid in Emile Smith Rowe as our No. 10 went in search of his 11th goal this season, but with the angle tight, his shot couldn't beat Robert Sanchez at the near-post. As the half drew to a close, we fashioned our best moment. Bukayo Saka's late corner picked out Gabriel at the far post whose towering header found Gabriel Martinelli unmarked on the goal line. Our young Brazillian duly headed in to level the scores, but after a lengthy VAR review, it was ruled out for offside. We looked a different side after the break, with Cedric's blocked free-kick the result of a renewed spirit following the restart. A period of domination followed, but tenacious work from Brighton at the back kept the busy Smith Rowe and Odegaard at bay. Mikel Arteta was soon forced to turn to his bench as the clock ticked past the hour mark with Smith Rowe making way for Eddie Nketiah upfront. We kept on coming as Saka's driven effort blazed over the bar, before there was to be further anguish for Mikel Arteta's side. Brighton worked a rare spell of second-half possession into a good chance. Moises Caicedo pulled it back to Mwepu on the edge of the box, who smashed it beyond the outstretched right-hand hand of Ramsdale to double the visitors' lead in the 67th-minute. The final few minutes of the game burst into life as Martin Odegaard's late free-kick was parried into the path of Nketiah who hit the bar from close range. Odegaard then picked the ball up moments later and fired into the top corner from 25-yards to get us back into the contest. With six added minutes, we pushed and pushed but couldn't quite find enough to level the game. It was a six-goal thriller and after 90 minutes we looked to have sealed an incredible and richly-deserved three points, only for league leaders Manchester City to score twice in injury time in a 3-3 draw. A brace from Mika Biereth and a first-half strike by Lino Sousa, along with a stunning display in goal by Hubert Graczyk, looked to have silenced the high-flying visitors with a stunning second-half show. But it wasn't to be and despite the late goals, Biereth almost snatched a late winner, only for his shot to fly over as he was left punching the turf in frustration. Head coach Kevin Betsy brought back Hutchinson and Charlie Patino into the starting XI but this contest started sedately as both teams looked intent on keeping possession. It was City who had the first sniff at goal with a long-range shot by Romeo Lavia with Graczyk smothering the ball smartly. Defence soon turned into attack and we had the crucial opener on 11 minutes. There may have been a slice of luck involved but Sousa won’t mind as his clipped cross from the left looped over the keeper into the net. Hutchinson continued to torment the visitors as we pressed for a second, but it was City who broke through and found themselves level just seven minutes later. Skipper Liam Delap beat the offside trap down the middle and slotted in the equaliser past the out-stretched Graczyk. Patino, Sousa and Hutchinson all provided some spark as we tried to wrestle back control, and although City dominated with the ball, Zane Monlouis and Jonathan Dinzeyi stood resolute at the back to keep the visitors at bay. The scores were level at the break but it could have been so different as Graczyk performed more heroics between the posts to claw away a low rasping shot from Oscar Bobb. How crucial that save proved to be. It was a timid start to the second half, but the noise soon cranked up as we regained the lead six minutes in. After winning a free-kick outside the box, the increasingly influential Hutchinson delivered a delicious ball into the box, and as City’s defenders flapped, Biereth pounced to poke in from 10 yards. City were wobbling while Hutchinson was buzzing and we almost grabbed a third with Miguel Azeez smashing a free-kick from outside the box against the left post. Hutchinson was everywhere and with cracks appearing in the blue defence, the 18-year-old surged forward with the ball stuck at his feet and his powerful shot was parried away by keeper Cieran Slicker. The game was fizzing from one end to the other and City showed they were still dangerous as James McAtee was put through, only for the impressive Graczyk to come to the rescue again with an athletic low save. A third goal did finally come on 75 minutes to relieve the pressure as Biereth fired in a penalty after the striker was hauled down. With legs tiring and a two-goal cushion, Betsy introduced Joel Ideho, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Omar Rekik. Delap then gave City hope with a blast from the edge of the box and in the sixth minute of injury time there was heartache for us as McAtee slammed in from a tight angle to level the scores. Watch every single landmark goal for Arsenal in the Premier League era. All the way from Bould to Bukayo... Bukayo Saka's goal to beat Aston Villa on Saturday was the 2,000th we have scored in Premier League history. Now into the 30th season of the competition, the landmark goal came up nearly 30 years after our very first – netted by Steve Bould against Norwich City at Highbury on August 15, 1992. We are the third team to rack up 2,000 PL goals, after Manchester United and Liverpool - however we actually needed fewer games than Liverpool to reach the milestone. Saka's goal came in our 1,142nd game, meaning we are the second fastest team to get there, at a rate of 1.75 goals per game. During the same period we have conceded 1,131, for an overall goal difference of +869 (which is the second best, after Manchester United). Saka is one of 132 different players to score for us in the Premier League (not including own goals) - and leading the way is Thierry Henry with 175. Among the 2,000 goals were 40 Premier League hat-tricks (Kevin Campbell scored the first) and our biggest win is 7-0 - recorded twice (against Everton in May 2005 and Middlesbrough in January 2006). Our highest scoring season in Premier League history is 87 in 2004/05, and we are the only side to score at least once in every single game in a campaign (2001/02). We also hold the record for most consecutive top-flight games scored in. We netted in 55 games in a row between May 19, 2001 and November 30, 2002. Bukayo Saka's first half goal was enough to give us all three points at Villa Park and strengthen our hold on fourth place. It was a very professional performance from start to finish, restricting Villa to just one shot on target - which was in fact the last kick of the game. We started the game very strongly too, playing mostly in the Villa half, and creating a few early chances. Bukayo Saka was coming out on top of his duel with Ashley Young, and his cross in the first ten minutes was nearly turned in for an own goal by Ezri Konsa, but former Gunner Emiliano Martinez got down to make the save. Emile Smith Rowe, back in the side for Gabriel Martinelli who's suffering with illness, shot over from the edge of the area from Martin Odegaard's pass. But just before the half hour we scored the goal that our start merited. A quick free kick on the right was played to Cedric. His deep cross was cleared to the edge of the area, where Saka smashed the ball back through a crowded area and beyond Martinez. It was the 2,000th goal Arsenal have scored in Premier League history, and Saka's 10th in all competitions this season. Saka was on the receiving end of a late Tyrone Mings challenge shortly afterwards, and the Villa captain was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch. Douglas Luiz fired a free-kick over the bar and Ollie Watkins hit the base of the post with a deflected shot. Arsenal meanwhile, were looking to take the sting out of the game and keep possession in midfield. One such passage of possession play led to a chance for Lacazette on the edge of the area, but his shot was blocked. Danny Ings, on as a late substitute, looped a header over late on as Villa piled on more pressure.
