After another six games are in the books for the Calgary Flames during the 2021-22 NHL Regular Season and another episode with My Calgary Flames In Six recapping how their last six games went. Focusing on games 7-12 on the schedule as the Calgary Flames we're wrapping up their five game road trip and starting a five game home stand as we head into November after closing out October. Would say it was an interesting stretch of games both on and off the ice for the Calgary Flames lead by stellar goaltending of Jacob Markstrom by picking up some shutouts. Also earned himself a player of the week honour to wrap up October. Calgary Flames we're also involved in some trade rumours with the Buffalo Sabres on landing centre Jack Eichel which I've made videos on that separately. Close out the Calgary Flames hosted the New York Rangers and defenseman Adam Fox was public enemy number one as I talked about in the video. Things are both looking good for the Calgary Flames and Stockton Heat as the Calgary Flames collected points in the standings for ten straight games and the Stockton Heat haven't lost in regulation yet. In pulling off the upset, the Boilermakers defeated an opponent ranked among the top five in the AP Top 25 for the 17th time as an unranked team, the most in FBS history. The Spartans entered at No. 3 in the CFP Rankings and No. 5 in the AP Top 25 thanks to last week's comeback win against Michigan, but a similar closing effort was not in the cards against a Boilermakers program that has built an identity on slaying Goliath. Saturday's victory against Michigan State follows the October upset of then-No. 2 Iowa, which marked the second time Purdue has beaten two top-10 teams in the same season since 1984. The template for the upsets have been the same with Purdue star wide receiver David Bell taking over as the best player on the field. Michigan State's pass defense has not been challenged by a player of Bell's caliber yet this season, and he delivered once again on a big stage with 11 catches for 217 yards and a touchdown against Michigan State. Bell has gone for at least 100 receiving in 15 of his 26 career games with the Boilermakers, and his performance against the Spartans falls in line with his 240-yard showing in the upset of the Hawkeyes earlier this season. Michigan State star running back Kenneth Walker III had a strong performance with 146 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, and the Spartans offense as a whole was able to move the ball against Purdue's defense. It was just unsuccessful in scoring opportunities during key late-game possessions. The issue for Michigan State was the defense, which gave up 536 yards passing to Purdue quarterback Aidan O'Connell, who completed 40 of 54 attempts. The Boilermakers converted on all seven of their red zone opportunities, while one of Michigan State's late-game efforts to cut into the lead resulted in a game-sealing interception.
Michigan State entered Ross–Ade Stadium as the undisputed kings of the Big Ten. They left as fireworks exploded and Purdue fans stormed the field in celebration. Unranked Purdue shocked No. 3 Michigan State Saturday 40–29 in one of the biggest upsets this college football season. The previously undefeated Spartans fall to 8–1 and their playoff hopes take a devastating blow. The Boilermakers (5–3) wasted no time in drawing first blood against the Spartans and found the end zone in just eight minutes. Quarterback Aidan O'Connell threw the first of his three touchdowns to wide receiver David Bell after evading the Spartan pass rush. After that, it was a good old fashioned Big Ten shoot out. Michigan State quickly answered with its own touchdown and Purdue after that. At halftime, the Boilermakers were up 21–14 and there was already a total of 498 yards of offense for both teams. Michigan State tied it up in the third quarter thanks to an electric 32-yard run from quarterback Payton Thorne that looked like it brought Purdue back to earth. The Boilermakers proceeded to score a touchdown and three field goals in a row to give them the largest lead of the game at 37–21. The Spartans scored their last touchdown of the game when wide receiver Tre Mosley found the end zone and the Spartans converted on the two-point conversion to make it 37–29. Michigan State would never tie it back up, or lead at any point, during the rest of the game. Purdue iced the game with a 22-yard field goal and just like that, Michigan State left Ross–Ade Stadium on the wrong side of an upset. This is the second win over a top three team this season for the Boilermakers. Purdue shocked then-No. 2 Iowa on Oct. 16. O'Connell finished with 536 passing yards and Bell had an absurd 11 catches for 217 receiving yards. As a team, Purdue racked up 594 yards of offense. More College Football Coverage:
