WTF?! Did Brook Lopez TURN INTO Giannis Antetokounmpo?!
WTF?! Did Brook Lopez TURN INTO Giannis Antetokounmpo?!

The Bucks were missing Antetokounmpo in game 5 but Brook Lopez had 33 points and 7 rebounds on 14 of 18 from the field and now he’s the new franchise star, and Milwaukee is trading Giannis and…! Ok ok let’s chill out for a second and break down what actually happened. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. This play pretty much sums up the monster night for Lopez. Holiday is in attack mode on the high screen, you can see the much slower Galinari retreating, so Okongwu comes from the back to help. Jrue stays patient and keeps his dribble alive, and you can see Brook signaling for the alley oop, we got the pass and the dunk. Again, on the left side, Holiday attacks and hits the defender with the “Smitty” which opens up the driving lane, and again, you see Okongwu helping and Lopez following the action so he dives inside, excellent bullet pass and another dunk. And this is almost the same play just with a high screen up top. This is not a replay, as we got the same scenario, the drive, the help, Lopez comes in from the right side and dunks it. As you continue to watch some of these highlights, my point is that the aggressiveness of Jrue Holiday was the main catalyst for the Bucks in this game, and you can see how it translated to a big scoring night for the big man. But seeing him pushing the ball and pressing throughout the entire game, I loved what I saw from Jrue who stepped up big time when the team needed him, playing without their leader. With that being said, why isn’t he like this every time, every game? That’s what Chuck asked him as well. JRUE HOLIDAY INTERVIEW Speaking of Lopez again, he was absolutely amazing on the defensive end. It was incredible to see how Atlanta would hunt for the switch, but then when Brook would be matched up outside with a smaller and quicker player, they often settled for a contested step back as you can see right here. On this play, the big man is attached to Bogdanovic throughout the entire possession and at the end, look at how tough of a shot Bogi ends up taking. And there were a few situations where the Hawks guards would try to go past him, only to be sent back with a spectacular block. He finished the night with 4 total rejections and you can see the excellent movement that he had during each and every one of those, putting himself in a great position to actually make that play. I also need to mention Bobby Portis as well for coming out with great energy on both ends, as the majority of the Bucks roster, but something definitely needs to be said about the lack of effort from the Atlanta Hawks. They were a complete no show for most of the game, allowing Milwaukee 33 of the 48 total field goals to come from the paint. I mean look at the shooting chart, it’s all under the basket. This was clear right from the start. REGGIE MILLER CLIP. And on the offensive end, a lot of turnovers and overall chaos. This was a good game to steal for them, with both teams playing without their best players, but as it stands at the moment, the best that Atlanta could hope for is that Trae Young is able to play the next one, and they come back in this same arena for game 7. We’ll see what happens. What do you think? Are the Bucks headed to the finals or will there be a deciding 7th game? That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

The Most UNGUARDABLE SHOT Of The New NBA Generation
The Most UNGUARDABLE SHOT Of The New NBA Generation

Trae Young gets a double screen high up, so he curls and accelerates towards the basket. Nice roll by Capella, and you can see Embiid trying to protect against the lob, so he is retreating. Trae just goes 1-2 into a silky smooth 1 handed floater that swishes. In a shocking game 1 win on the road against the number 1 seeded Philadelphia 76ers Young did this a few more times. And the defense couldn’t stop it. Thing is, his colleagues from other teams are doing it as well, and are extremely successful at it. Let me show you why the floater is becoming the go-to move in this new era of the NBA. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. In the past, there were so few players proficient with this shot that we could pinpoint them exactly. Guys like Tony Parker, Mike Conley immediately come to mind as guys who consistently relied on it. And Derrick Rose is another big one, even tho his early explosiveness and dunking ability were the main attraction and shifted the focus away from his proficiency with the tear drop. Today however we have a whole wave, a new generation of players who see the floater as a legitimate weapon in their arsenal, and one that they go-to even with the game on the line. Trae Young used it to literally win a game against the Knicks in round 1 of the playoffs. Tie game, he gets a full head of steam, runs past his defender, and flips it up for the game winner. And Ja Morant, took his team to the playoffs with 2 consecutive floaters against the Golden State Warriors, to ice the game of the play-in tournament. He’s been criticized for his shooting but nobody can stop these flip shots. Check out the drive inside the paint, the beautiful spin and the 1 hander straight through the net. And of course, you see the excitement immediately after. It all becomes clear when we take a look at the top floatmen in the NBA this season. They are all 22 years or younger, and they’re all guards. Leader of the pack is Trae Young with 4 floaters per game which I was even surprised by that amount. Ja Morant of course is on here as well. And we also have the SexLand duo from the Cavs Colin Sexton and Darius Garland who started off pretty hot, but then fell off in the standings. Still the future is bright for these guys. And if you watched the Mavs vs Clippers series, you know exactly why Luka is high on this list. From the pick and roll, he puts his defender on his hip, and it’s checkmate, as it’s either this shot, or the lob for the dunk. Rounding things off is Emanuel Quickley from the New York Knicks, who if you follow this channel closely, you know that I have a video made on this exact topic earlier in the season. You notice that these are all quick guards who can get past their defender and attack the paint. So once the help defender comes, usually a big man protecting the basket, they just put it up so high that it cannot be blocked. Tony Parker explained how he became so comfortable with the floater and how it helped his game tremendously: TONY PARKER INTERVIEW There is a major shift in the way guards finish in today’s era as opposed to the previous generation. If guys like CP3 for example, went to the mid range pull up once they beat their defender, today it’s either the 3 point shot from almost anywhere, the limitless range that we’re witnessing, which forces the defense to cover way outside, and automatically that opens up a lot of room for these shifty guards to run past the primary man, and go to the paint, and from there you already know, the floater and the swish. As new wave of players enters the league, new superstars are born, and with that, we get a new style of play. We can see it changing right before our eyes. I personally love this shot as a weapon in a player’s bag. Let me know what you think down in the comments. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Using the CrazyCatch Rebounder to improve reflex saves from Cutbacks. Goalkeeper training drill pro
Using the CrazyCatch Rebounder to improve reflex saves from Cutbacks. Goalkeeper training drill pro

Closely adapted from Episode 65, rebounder reactions sees the inclusion of a second server. This makes for a great group exercise which would see it set up on both sides of the goal. The purpose of the first movement is to draw the goalkeeper to their near post as you would in a game situation. Having originally narrowed their angle the goalkeeper would defend their near post due to the initial pass. At the post the goalkeeper would be left with 3 options. 1. Stay big, set and take the shot 2. Intercept the cut back with a dive 3. A cut back is performed and the goalkeeper retreats into goal to make the save. This drill can be easily adapted to focus on these 3 points but this drill and the use of the Crazy Catch UK means the focus of today would be the reaction saves. Positioning the Double Trouble rebounder anywhere from 6 to 8 yards would re-enact the strikers run towards goal and first time shot at goal. The goalkeepers initial movement is to get into goal keeping eye contact at all time. From this point, goalkeepers are coached into two options. 1. Can you get as close to the ball to block 2. Stay back to allow more time to see the shot and react with a save. Both scenarios favour the striker due to the ball moving towards them and not the goalkeeper. Working on reactions is part and parcel of being a goalkeeper and due to wanting to test the rebounder I chose to focus more on the reaction save element. At these distances a save would be a great achievement and the save percentage would also increase with the use of other parts of your body notable the legs. Use of the star technique made famous by the great Dane Peter Schmeichel and then more commonly by the likes of David de Gea or Marc-Andre ter Stegen, allows for the low body to make contact with the ball faster at lower heights.

Basketball Drills: Russell Westbrook Downhill Series with Jordan Lawley
Basketball Drills: Russell Westbrook Downhill Series with Jordan Lawley

In this shooting series, our friend and NBA Skills Trainer Jordan Lawley takes us through 2 ways to use Dr. Dish to work on shooting while attacking downhill. In the first progression, Jordan focuses on shooting off the catch after sprinting downhill. As the pass is made from the Dr. Dish, you want to go meet the ball in air while continuing momentum going forward. From there, plant with a wide base and explode up into the shot. The 2nd progression adds in a dribble exchange while attacking downhill. You'll often see Russell Westbrook utilize this to get defenders retreating and on their heels. Here, we want to push/throw the ball into space while continuing to stay on balance and exploding into a jump shot. These are obviously great drills to work on using a Dr. Dish machine but can also be utilized at home with a rebounder.
