Michael Beasley, one of the most gifted scorers ever, a Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, McDonald’s All-American Game MVP, BIG3 Champion, back-to-back BIG3 MVP, and one of the best one-on-one players in basketball, joins Club Shay Shay. Beasley reflects on growing up in Maryland, surrounded by family members who were incarcerated, including his grandfather, father, and uncle. He shares how basketball became his outlet after shooting his first shot at three years old and beginning organized basketball at eight. He explains how being oversized for his age shaped the way people viewed him and how he often felt misunderstood. He reveals that meeting Kevin Durant changed his basketball life. Durant pushed him into the gym, taught him the language of basketball, and helped sharpen his competitive drive. Beasley also discusses living with Nolan Smith’s family during his teenage years and how those relationships helped shape the player he became. Beasley opens up about his father, saying he later learned the truth about why their relationship was limited as a child. He explains how that revelation created distance between him and his mother before learning of her cancer diagnosis. He also discusses the famous story of stealing pizza on the first day he met Kevin Durant. Beasley discusses time spent at Kevin Durant’s house, saying KD constantly talked basketball even as a kid. He also speaks on Lethal Shooter, remembering him as an elite shooter long before today’s NBA embraced deep threes. On AAU basketball, Beasley says money has changed youth sports, with too many families chasing profit instead of development, discipline, and love for the game. He also describes how some coaches profited from his talent while his family still struggled financially. He talks about attending six high schools, being on his own at a young age, and dominating everywhere he played. Beasley then revisits winning the McDonald’s All-American Game MVP over Derrick Rose, James Harden, O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan after using being ranked No. 6 by ESPN as motivation. He praises Rose’s athleticism, O.J. Mayo’s skill, Blake Griffin’s power, and Kevin Love’s passing. Beasley reflects on his legendary freshman season at Kansas State, where he broke Carmelo Anthony’s freshman double-double record and outproduced Kevin Durant statistically. He names his all-time one-and-done starting five as Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Zion Williamson, and Anthony Davis. He also discusses NIL, saying he wanted to stay in college longer but outside influences pushed him to the NBA. Finally, he revisits the 2008 NBA Draft and says he believes he would have been the No. 1 overall pick if the Chicago Bulls had not won the lottery and selected Derrick Rose. #ClubShayShay #MichaelBeasley #KevinDurant Buy LePortier: https://leportiercognac.com/products/shay_vsop_750ml/ SUBSCRIBE to get the latest Club Shay Shay content: https://www.youtube.com/c/ClubShayShay?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to the Club Shay Shay podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/club-shay-shay/id1531023690 Listen to the Club Shay Shay podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/060hDdnydsJyMi17TmvyAh?si=iuda1z7oTE-21ZYzwiUdhg&nd=1 Like Club Shay Shay on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/ClubShayShay/ Follow Club Shay Shay on Twitter: https://x.com/clubshayshay?s=21&t=PF1soCgsTT_NEerDJm9Lfg Follow Club Shay Shay on Instagram: https://instagram.com/clubshayshay?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Follow Shannon Sharpe on Twitter: https://x.com/shannonsharpe?s=21&t=PF1soCgsTT_NEerDJm9Lfg Follow Club Shay Shay on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clubshayshaypod?_t=8fJ79WZy2fb&_r=1 About Club Shay Shay: Club Shay Shay is a weekly podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe – 3x Super Bowl champion, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and co-host of First Take on ESPN. Zach Berman opened the episode by reflecting on the excitement surrounding the Buffalo Sabres' dramatic playoff win, expressing happiness for Lindy Ruff and comparing the different dynamics of this year's NHL playoffs from a Devils fan perspective. He noted the odd feeling of not having the Rangers as a direct rival in the playoffs and discussed general playoff rivalries and rooting interests among Devils fans, including the dislike for teams like the Hurricanes, Maple Leafs, and Islanders, and a collective hope that certain playoff outcomes will impact other teams' roster decisions 02:00. The focus then shifted to the Utica Comets, the New Jersey Devils' AHL affiliate, who made a late-season push but ultimately missed the Calder Cup playoffs by just one point. Zach Berman detailed their season turnaround after a disastrous start and highlighted individual players, such as Xavier Parent and Angus Crookshank, who showed promise down the stretch. While acknowledging that missing the playoffs can't be viewed as a success, Zach Berman pointed to optimism for the future and noted that changes could be coming in the Comets' front office and player development systems 07:00. Attention was then directed to the upcoming introductory press conference for new Devils general manager Sunny Mehta. Zach Berman expressed excitement about Mehta's background and his engagement with fans on social media, especially his nostalgic posts connecting his fandom to his new role. Anticipating the presser, Zach Berman outlined key questions regarding Mehta's plans for analytics, player acquisition, front office changes, and especially how he intends to improve the Devils' player development, which has struggled in recent years 14:12. In the final segment, Zach Berman discussed potential offseason moves for the Devils, revisiting interest in Seattle’s Jared McCann as a flexible option who could strengthen both center and wing depth. He also floated names like Eeli Tolvanen and Shane Wright as possible targets, reflecting on the need to navigate no-trade clauses and other roster complications. Zach Berman ended by acknowledging that, while hope for blockbuster trades like acquiring Adam Fox from the Rangers is unrealistic, there is renewed excitement and curiosity about the direction the Devils will take under Mehta’s leadership with the impending press conference set to offer the first insights 27:08. The final match of the Qatar Basketball Cup for the 2025–2026 sports season will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, as Al-Arabi and Al-Shamal face off in the closing event of the 13th edition of the tournament. The clash promises a direct battle for the title, following two contrasting semifinal journeys that culminated in well-deserved qualification for both teams. Al-Arabi booked its place in the final after a marathon encounter against Al-Rayyan, decided in overtime with a dramatic 104–103 victory. The game was one of the most thrilling contests of the tournament, with both sides exchanging momentum across four quarters before Al-Arabi sealed the win in the dying seconds of extra time. In contrast, Al-Shamal advanced to the final with a commanding and disciplined performance against Al-Wakrah, securing a clear 71–56 victory. From the first quarter, Al-Shamal imposed its dominance, maintaining control throughout the match thanks to strong defensive play and tactical discipline, earning its ticket to the final without the need for late drama. The anticipated final reflects the different paths taken by the two teams: Al-Arabi endured a grueling test that stretched into overtime, while Al-Shamal progressed with stability and decisiveness. This contrast adds an important technical dimension to the showdown. Historically, Al-Arabi holds a distinguished record in the competition, sharing the lead with Al-Gharafa as the most decorated clubs in Qatar Cup history, with four titles each. This experience makes Al-Arabi a perennial contender in decisive stages. Meanwhile, Al-Shamal enters the final with the ambition of writing a new chapter in its sporting history, aiming to secure its first-ever Qatar Cup title after a standout season that showcased its ability to compete with the elite. This final represents a historic opportunity for both sides: Al-Arabi seeks to add a fifth title to strengthen its place among the champions, while Al-Shamal aspires to achieve a breakthrough triumph that would place its name on the list of title winners for the first time. To date, Al-Rayyan, Al-Wakrah, and Al-Sadd have each won the cup once.
