On today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis began by referring to the Houston Rockets feud between Chris Paul (CP3) and James Harden. The media has “Chris Paul is untradeable," said Travis. "He’s too old, has a massive contract, and he is continually surrounded by drama." Clay Travis then transitioned into the problems with the Los Angeles Lakers and their quest to find a third, top-tier player. Clay is suggesting a strategy to capitalize on this summer’s filming of Space Jam 2, which would be a creative way to play a player additional money by connecting him to the movie. This would subsidize his annual salary and not affect the NBA’s salary cap structure. Clay Travis then commented on the Mike Conley trade acquisition by the Utah Jazz with hopes of becoming relevant by adding the point guard to their roster. This is a huge risk, said Travis, and may not pan out. Clay Travis then talked about the terrifying Malaysian Air flight story in The Atlantic that he called a must-read. According to the article, the 57-year old pilot was depressed and decided to commit suicide with an entire flight full of innocent travelers on board. One piece of compelling evidence was a simulated flight in his flight simulator which matched the flight path when he intentionally crashed his plane. Clay Travis also discussed a highly covered Little League brawl following a game in Colorado. The umpire, said Travis, was just 13 years old. While Clay didn’t condone the fight, he shared a personal story from his youth baseball coaching experience with a teenage umpire who told him he didn’t care following a missed call. Not caring while being paid to do a job is unacceptable, added Travis. Finally, Clay Travis mentioned the current status of NFL Sunday Ticket and offered his theory about Direct TV’s exclusive $1.5 billion contract that is up for renewal this Fall. Clay is of the opinion that the NFL is having a hard time finding anyone to agree to the price tag, and Direct TV would much rather lose their exclusivity, thereby paying less for the rights to providing the package.
On today’s Outkick the Show, Clay Travis, not one to brag, not one to draw attention to himself, announced his 6-0 streak over in the last 6 gambling picks. His four plays for tonight’s NCAA National Championship game between Texas Tech and Virginia are as follows: Tx Tech + 1.5 and the UNDER at 118. OT at 10 to 1 Before the Final Four started, Clay picked Kyle Guy at 9 to 1 as Most Outstanding Player. (It is now, shockingly, at +450 for him to earn the honor.) Clay Travis also mentioned the controversial ending in the Auburn-UVA game on Saturday, and holds the opinion that UVA’s Kyle Guy was, indeed, fouled on the three-point attempt near the end of the game. Contact was clearly made during the shot by Auburn’s defender, said Travis. The same game’s double-dribble missed call, continued Travis, is, admittedly, an easy call to miss. Bruce Pearl, the head coach at Auburn, also conceded that he didn’t realize it was double-dribble when he appeared on this morning’s Outkick the Coverage radio show with Clay Travis on FOX. Clay Travis also talked about the recent news surrounding Tennessee’s head basketball coach Rick Barnes and his potential coaching change to UCLA. According to Clay, Rick Barnes will probably stay in Tennessee because of his age (65) more than any other factor. The only reason, said Travis, for Barnes to accept the offer at UCLA is because of the weakness of the PAC-12 conference compared to the strength of talent in the SEC. It would likely be easier for Barnes to win his conference if he takes the job coaching the Bruins. Also, Clay Travis weighed in on the childish social media attacks by former Pittsburgh Steeler, Antonio Brown, toward his former teammate, JuJu Smith-Schuster. AB, said Travis, has officially spiraled out of control. AB has now gone off the deep-end with his behavior, especially after digging up an Instagram DM from a college-aged Juju praising AB and asking him for tips, somehow thinking producing this message would elevate his status with fans who seem to have moved on and appreciate Juju in Pittsburgh. AB is losing his mind, said Travis, and this is a terrible look for him. Clay Travis also mentioned the recent drama surrounding embattled Stormy Daniels attorney Michael Avenatti. It appears that Avenatti has produced some compelling evidence showing Nike is guilty of paying Zion Williamson’s mom to encourage him to attend Duke. One prominent question seems to be, said Travis, why Adidas and Nike have been treated so differently in a legal sense. Finally, Clay Travis brought up last night’s Wrestlemania. He especially enjoyed the HHH match, he is excited to see where the WWE is going, he would love to see Hulk Hogan to fully join with the WWE and he enjoyed seeing him last night, and yes, said Travis, it is possible to gamble on the WWE matches. #DBAP
This is the full Outkick the Show program with Clay Travis on Monday, December 10. Clay Travis discussed Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray winning the Heisman Trophy. Kyler Murray topped Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy. Clay Travis said despite Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray winning the Heisman Trophy, Tua Tagovailoa is the better quarterback. Kyler Murray will play against Tua Tagovailoa in the first round of the college football playoffs. Clay Travis said he believes Alabama will destroy Oklahoma in the first round of the college football playoffs. Clay Travis then discussed Kyler Murray’s tweets from when he was 14 years old. Clay Travis said Kyler Murray’s tweets shouldn’t be an issue and took journalists to shame for unearthing the Kyler Murray’s tweets. Clay Travis wrote on Outkick the Coverage, “Saturday night Kyler Murray won the Heisman trophy. By later that evening Murray’s offensive Tweets, sent when he was a teenager, had emerged, eventually leading many top mainstream media outlets to run stories about the Tweets.” “This has become an all too common theme and, frankly, it’s patently absurd and indefensible from a journalistic perspective to continue the trend of shaming teenagers for the things they Tweeted when they were children. But this is just the tip of the social media outrage iceberg. I’m going to argue in this column that all of us, media and general public alike, need to recalibrate our responses to social media and the way we allow its controversies and crises to drive our media cycles.” Clay Travis also discussed the Dallas Cowboys trading for former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper and said the Amari Cooper trade was the greatest in-season trade in the history of the NFL and Jerry Jones should be recognized for that. Because of Jerry Jones' trade, Amari Cooper has turned around the Dallas Cowboys fortunes this year and the Dallas Cowboys now lead everyone in the NFC East by two games. Lastly, Clay Travis discussed the Tennessee basketball team beating Gonzaga. The Tennessee basketball team beat the top ranked Gonzaga basketball team over the weekend. The Tennessee basketball team's victory over Gonzaga is the highlight of Rick Barnes' career at Tennessee. Clay Travis also wrote, "It’s the outrage Olympics every damn day and instead of being the adults in the room, the media exacerbates this tension, leading to one moment of satirical absurdity after another. Look at what just happened to Kevin Hart, the man who was picked to host the Oscars. The moment he was named as Oscar host the same losers who went after Kyler Murray went back through Hart’s old Tweets and found them lacking. Hart’s spent his entire career trying to make people laugh. I know this going to shock y’all, but it turns out that some of Kevin Hart’s jokes were offensive to some people. But, and this is key, the intent was to make people laugh. I’m old enough to remember when intent still mattered. Not just some loser’s feelings."
On today's Outkick the Show, Clay Travis explained why Kawhi Leonard is not going to be traded to the Lakers.
