The first Test of the series will be played at Windsor Park Roseau Dominica. An interesting factor about Dominica is that the particular venue is hosting an international red-ball game after six long years. Team Preview (India): Led by Rohit Sharma the Men in Blue have been the dominant side in both WTC cycles played so far. But despite being a team to beat India haven't fired when they needed losing the finals to New Zealand (2019-21) and Australia (2021-23). And in pursuit of an ICC title the Men in Blue are regrouping with a mixture of young and experienced squad. It is confirmed by captain Rohit Sharma that Yashasvi Jaiswal will make his Test debut and will open the batting alongside him. Shubman Gill will bat down at number three the place opened after management dropped veteran Cheteshwar Pujara for the tour. Virat Kohli Ajinkya Rahane Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin will complete the middle and lower order. It will be interesting to see who the team management will opt for the glove work. So the fight will be between Srikar Bharat and Mumbai Indians' Ishan Kishan for that most-important spot in the XI. On the pace bowling front it will be led by the fiery Mohammed Siraj. Giving him the company it is expected to be the duo of Jaydev Unadkat and Shardul Thakur. But don't be surprised if Mukesh Kumar gets an opportunity to make an India debut. India will hope for a winning start but it won't be easy in the Caribbean Islands. India featured only once in Dominica and it was back in 2011 when the venue made its debut in Test match cricket. Both these sides played out a draw when they met back in 2011. Team Preview (West Indies): West Indies are under their new head coach Daren Sammy who is all set to make his Test coaching debut. The two-time ICC T20 World Cup-winning captain is coming off a horrible experience in the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers as the Men in Maroon failed to make it to the main event later in the year in India. Focusing on the purest format of the game the records aren't pleasing. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side has been pretty poor in the previous two championship cycles. West Indies would want to start the third WTC cycle well but they are facing the two-time runners-up of WTC India which is not going to be an easy task. West Indies team management has named a 13-man squad for the first Test. A few new faces have been added to the team. As usual Brathwaite is leading the side. The impressive Tagenarine Chanderpaul will accompany his skipper up at the top with the bat. Alick Athanaze had a wonderful domestic season and has been in the pick of the things in the West Indies-A set-up as well as toured South Africa in the previous WTC cycle. Kirk McKenzie has got his maiden call-up to the camp. The rest of the side is pretty similar comprising experienced Jason Holder Jermaine Blackwood Alzarri Joseph Shannon Gabriel Kemar Roach Raymon Reifer and Joshua Da Silva as expected will don the gloves. Rahkeem Cornwall an all-arounder who last played in a Test in November 2021 as well as left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican who was a member of the team that toured Zimbabwe but was absent from the most recent tour of South Africa in February have been called back. Gudakesh Motie was unavailable for the selection as he is undergoing rehabilitation from injury. Kyle Mayers is rested for the first Test after complaining about some niggles in the recently concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers. They chased down a score of over 200 in the last game but this is not Wankhede and it is not that easy to chase here. They still need to back themselves though and let's see how they go about their business against the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis who are brilliant in the death. Mumbai well they were again very poor in the death overs. They got an early wicket of Prabhsimran Singh in the Powerplay and then their two spinners Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya bowled well in the middle overs. Chawla got two wickets as well but once he was done with his spell the duo of Jitesh and Livingstone just exploded. Jofra Archer Mumbai's premier bowler was hammered all over the park as he ended with 56 runs in his four overs. Akash Madhwal though showed signs of being a good death bowler but overall it has been another disappointing performance from Mumbai bowlers. The home team Punjab lost Prabhsimran Singh early but Dhawan batted with intent although Matthew Short failed to get going at the other end. Dhawan was outfoxed by Chawla though and Short also could not last longer. However that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Punjab as Jitesh walked out with his usual swagger. He had Livingstone alongside him and both smashed Mumbai bowlers all over the park with Jofra Archer too not spared. Both of them stayed unbeaten and stitched together a stand of 119 off 53 balls as Livingstone scored 82 off 42 balls and Jitesh Sharma ended with 49 off 27 balls to take Punjab to a mammoth total here. Punjab go into the break with a big smile on their face. Their powerful batting line-up has once again shown its supremacy against a relatively inexperienced Mumbai bowling attack. Absolute carnage in the death overs again and they have smashed 69 runs in the last five overs. They have reached a very good score now and Mumbai would need to bat well to chase down another 200-plus total. Rohit Sharma departs without troubling scorers and Mumbai are off to the worst possible start! Rishi Dhawan bowls this on a length and wide outside the off pole. Rohit Sharma reaches for this and looks to go over the off side field but slices this towards third man. Matthew Short runs along the boundary and takes a well-judged catch to his left. Rishi looks absolutely thrilled with this and so are his teammates. A beauty from Rishi Dhawan and he cuts Cameron Green into half with this in-swinger! This is bowled on a good length and in line with the stumps. Cameron Green pushes at the line of the ball and gets beaten on the inside edge. The ball just misses the leg pole. Green gets his first boundary and that is some power! Arshdeep Singh bowls this full and in line with the stumps. Cameron Green lofts this straight towards long on for four runs. Ishan has timed this nicely! Arshdeep Singh bowls this full and outside the off pole. Ishan cuts this late towards deep backward point for four runs. Good delivery and well-negotiated by Ishan! Arshdeep bowls this back of a length and into the batter form outside off. Ishan Kishan sways back and gets the bat onto the ball. It goes over the short third man fielder for four more runs. Green gets enough bat on this to send it flying to the fence! Curran bowls this short and wide outside the off pole. Green slashes at this hard and gets this off the thickish outside edge towards third man for four runs. When Green hits this ball it stays hit! Curran has been far too short and serves this outside off. Green pulls this towards deep mid-wicket for four runs.
