Twitter: https://www.Twitter.com/SeanCostelloJr So a few weeks ago I made a video on the LA Clippers and how they seemed like they were finally starting to figure things out and put up great performances on a more consistent basis. well this Clippers team great level of play hasn’t seemed to decrease ever since I made that video as they’ve now won 13 of their last 15 games and today I wanna talk about why this team has what it takes to make a deep playoff run and what they’ll need to do in order to do just that. So last night the Clippers got themselves a 100-98 nice victory over the Detroit Pistons and while that might not seem too nice as the Pistons are currently the third worst team in the whole NBA only in front of the Timberwolves and Rockets record wise, the Clippers were playing the second half didn’t have 4 of their typical starters as PG13, Kawhi, Ibaka and Patrick Beverly all didn’t play in last night’s game. So getting a win on the second half of a back to back without 4 of your starters is something to give them credit for at least to me, even if it was against the Detroit Pistons. The Clippers got great play from Luke Kennard, Ivica Zubac and most specifically Point Guard Reggie Jackson as he scored 29 points on 50% shooting overall from the field as well as grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out one assist while also coming up big and hitting the game winner for the LA Clippers. Now following last nights victory, it hasn’t just been 13 of their last 15 games that the Clippers have now won, but they’ve also now won 7 games in a row and got some nice victories in the process as they blew out the Lakers which even tho the Lakers are hurt I think a blowout win is always a positive then they got a nice 16 point victory over the tough Trail Blazers following that followed by yet another nice victory as they beat the also hot Phoenix Suns who currently hold the 2nd best record in the entire NBA on the season. so getting multiple double digit victories over some of the league’s top teams really shows how well this Clippers team has played and if you look here you can see during this stretch where they’ve won 13 of their last 15 their two best players Kawhi and Paul George have missed 4 games each over that span, starting Point Guard Pat Beverly missed 13 of those games and one of their big offseason pickups Serge Ibaka missed all of those 15 games and I think that personally shows just how impressive this recent run has been for the Clippers. So let me go deeper and explain how the Clippers extended their win streak to 6 in a row, and what that could mean for the playoffs. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. All that without Kawhi Leonard for this game as the Clippers were able to hold off Indiana. Thing is it wasn’t just the shot making. PG is letting the game come to him. Drawing defenders on the drive, then finding the cutter and dishing a no look pass for the lay in. Or surveying the floor and finding the open shooter in the corner for the three point shot. Even taking advantage of the matchups and executing a tight pick and roll with Zubac right here. Great roll by Ivica, timely lob pass, and the dunk. The matchups were such that both Zubac and Marcus Morris had opportunities to score in the absence of Miles Turner under the basket. So there were multiple occasions where Morris would just back his way down to his favorite spot, turn around and raise up for the shot and the Pacers were unable to stop him. But all of this is just a part of a bigger story. The Clippers are getting into a nice groove just before the playoffs. I mean they have been solid throughout the entire season, but for the last 15 games which is quite a big portion btw they’ve been on fire. A record of 12-3, and shooting lights out 49.8% from the field, and 43% from downtown, being the absolute best in the NBA in both categories. Right now they’re in a phenomenal rhythm, peaking just at the right time for the playoffs. And all of this while staying under the radar. For the entire season at that. They’ve been solid and playing at a great pace since the start, but unlike last year, now nobody is talking about this team. Remember how all of last year the talk was Clippers or Lakers, Lebron and AD vs Kawhi and PG. The battle of LA. But all of that hype disappeared with a single playoff exit that they had, albeit a debacle of epic proportions, losing a 3-1 lead. However if you ask me, this is exactly how they want it to be. Kawhi is a man of few words anyways, and PG had some struggles with all the pressure and the talk surrounding him and the team. So right now he’s ballin 'out. Postgame, PG mentioned having some conversations with Dwyane Wade about taking his game to a new level and how that has helped him this season. PG INTERVIEW So yeah, in my opinion nothing has changed from last year. We still need to view them as top candidates for the championship. The roster got better in my opinion, and although they’re missing Ibaka and Beverley at the moment, they will be back for the playoffs, and of course Rondo got there at the trade deadline as well. And with the Lakers struggling right now with injuries, anything can happen come playoff time.
