Oakland Roots traveled down to Southern California for the Western Conference Semifinal and their fifth game against Orange County SC in the 2021 season. Roots had lost the four previous meetings but coming off their win against the top seed in the Mountain Division last week, anything is possible. Both sides played somewhat conservative in the first half for fear of conceding the opening goal. Chances were slim, but Memo Diaz had a great strike in the thirtieth minute that was just off target. Orange County led in possession going into the half, certainly something Head Coach Jordan Ferrell would look to change to start the second half. The second half was a much different story as Roots came out looking to control the game and found themselves constantly in the attacking third and more than doubling their shots on goal. This forced Orange County to sit back and play more conservatively, midway through the half they looked to bring on some more offensive firepower but it wasn’t enough against the strong defensive front of Oakland. Even with four minutes of stoppage time, both teams were unable to find the game-changing goal, forcing the Western Conference Semifinal into extra time. The first half of stoppage saw both teams doing their best to keep the pressure up and attack the ball. In the 97th minute the game saw its first yellow card of the game off a tackle from Akeem Ward. The intensity continued to grow and just a few minutes later tempers flared as both Roots and Orange County players got into a short shoving match after a foul from Orange County. Fatigue started to set in at the start of the second half of extra time as the teams exchanged fouls and free kicks without much cohesion from either side. After 120 minutes of play, the season was on the line with a penalty shootout. This was to be the first penalty shootout in Oakland Roots history. Yohannes Harish was subbed on with just seconds left to play in extra time, surely he was to be one of the selected few to take a kick. Roots were first to shoot, with Tarek Morad easily finding the back of the net. On their next turn, Jeremy Bokila did the same. Throughout the shootout, goalkeeper Paul Blanchette would guess the correct side but was unable to come up with a stop. Veteran Joseph Nane, as well as Ariel Mbumba and Yohannes Harish all would score, bringing things to sudden death. Akeem Ward took the sixth shot and was blocked by OC goalkeeper Patrick Rakovsky. OC striker Ronaldo Damus was up next, he pulled a classic stutter step but was blocked by Paul Blanchette. Unfortunately Blanchette was called for coming off his line too early. On the rekick, Damus would score, ending the Roots inaugural season in the USL Championship.

But against the grain, Afghanistan like batting first and then apply the spin choke in conjunction with scoreboard pressure. They did so against Namibia here but that was a day game. They will also be aware of India's bat-first insecurities and that could force a strategy re-think. T20I Head to Head: India 2 - 0 Afghanistan. Both the games were played at T20 World Cups in 2010 and 2012. Team Watch: India Injuries/Unavailability: Suryakumar Yadav missed the game against New Zealand with a back spasm. While batting coach Vikram Rathour said all 15 players were available for selection, given the short turnaround for this clash, Suryakumar could be an unlikely starter. Tactics & Matchups: Afghanistan like to hit out in the PowerPlays and at the death. If there has been a conservative phase in their three Super 12 matches so far, it's been during the four-over period between overs 7 and 10 (Avg Run-Rate 5.17). India, who have had wicket-taking troubles in the PowerPlay, will hope to dictate terms with the ball through this phase. Probable XI: Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy Afghanistan Injuries/Unavailability: Asghar Afghan has retired with immediate effect and will not play in the remainder of the tournament. Bowling allrounder Sharafuddin Ashraf has been approved as the replacement in the squad. Mujeeb Ur Rahman missed the last game with an injury and an update on his injury status hasn't been forthcoming. Tactics & Matchups: Unsurprisingly, spin will be central to the outcome of this tactical battle. Rashid Khan has dismissed KL Rahul thrice, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya twice without giving away much. The players who have played him relatively better, Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant, have been dismissed twice each by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Afghanistan could also consider left-arm seamer Fareed Ahmed following the success of Shaheen Afridi and Trent Boult in the first two games against India. Probable XI: Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Shahzad (wk), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat/Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hamid Hassan, Naveen Ul Haq What they said: "Not really [sitting with our calculators out]. We won't be good at maths anyway, being cricketers. I think at this time, at this moment, is to play good cricket. To win the remaining three games. I think these calculations will come into focus when we come into the last game and other results are out. At this moment, there is no focus on calculating run-rates or anything. We're just looking to play well, sort out our issues and get into the game and win the game." - Vikram Rathour "The good news is that we haven't gotten all-out so far, we have batting till No.9, most of the batsmen can hit and even Rashid [Khan] hasn't batted yet. So we have good opportunities against India. If we score good runs on the board, inshallah we can defeat them with bowling and fielding." - Hamid Hassan

Recap of all NFL Week 7 NFL games. Full show! DEN/CLE - CLE can win without Baker against mediocre teams. DEN is not a good team at this point. CIN/BAL - CIN perfect gameplan - rush & retrace with DEs to cover Lamar's run lanes, used extra help to block BAL blitzes, Burrow good vs. blitz. BAL made a bad choice to put Humphrey 1:1 with Chase. WAS/GB - GB let WAS stick around. They can't seem to put teams away. GB plays slow/conservative to protect a mediocre D. Smart! ATL/MIA - Pitts has arrived! Ryan playing at a high level. ATL figuring it out. Tua solid game but how much was just because of the bad ATL D? NYJ/NE - NYJ in a dire state. NE rolls. BB basically did whatever he wanted this game. CAR/NYG - Darnold benched. No CMC hurting this O and they won't use DJ Moore in that role. Daniel Jones is aight. KC/TEN - Murphy's Law game for KC. TEN making a statement. Fully back? What's wrong with the Chiefs & Mahomes and how to fix them! DET/LAR - DET Super Bowl. Fakes galore. Rams squeeze the life out at the end. PHI/LV - Raiders rolling. They're legit. Hurts garbage time king. Sanders hurt is disappointing. HOU/ARI - "I'm never betting on Davis Mills again" and "I'm done underestimating the Cards" meet. I should know better. Kyler played like he knew he had extra lives to spare. Watt injured. CHI/TB - Bowles vs. Fields/Lazor/Nagy wasn't a fair fight. Letting Fields "get his reps in" is a good notion, but not in that situation. IND/SF - Waterlogged game. Wentz some good throws but a TON of mistakes. NO/SEA - Saints eke it out. Still no identity yet (reminds me of Bucs last year). SEA needs Russ back. Big predator fish like pike and musky stir angling excitement like few other fish, and although not a core focus here at Wired2fish, several staffers grew up chasing them and love a good hunt. This long-form video with Kyle Peterson overviews his musky fishing season with a focused discussion on using forward-imaging sonar (he's a Garmin LiveScope guru), his go-to lures, rod setups, and terminal tackle considerations. It all combines to help you catch these low-density and nomadic predator fish with a high success rate. *Boat and electronics links at the bottom. Kyle details how to employ forward-imaging to target fish in "outer space" (suspended away from structure) -- the discussion covers the importance of casting distance and accuracy, bait angle of approach relative to the fish, and lure manipulation to trigger reaction strikes. BOAT SETUP • BOAT - Lund 1875 Pro-V Bass XS (Kyle's boat): https://wired2.fish/Lund1875ProV-Bass • BOAT - Lund Pro-V Musky (musky-specific, featured in the intro): https://wired2.fish/LundProV-Musky • WALK-THRU VID - Lund Pro-V Musky: https://wired2.fish/LundProV-MuskyWalkThu • MOTOR - Mercury Pro XS 250hp: http://wired2.fish/MercuryProXS Muskies are a lot like bass in that they readily and respond and eat a myriad of offerings from crankbaits, soft plastics, spinners (inline & safety pin), jerkbaits, and live bait, to name a few. For Peterson, live sonar has been transformative in helping him refine his bait selection to 3 core categories: 1) inline spinners (bucktails), 2) topwaters, and 3) performance swimbaits. He explains how and when he uses each, emphasizing the new Savage Gear Sucker, which can be worked at various depths and speeds, including being burned (most blow out) -- excellent attributes for the live imaging game. Catching muskies is hard. Period! They are low-density fish that infrequently eat yet are highly curious and can go nuts when you get things right. Modern sonar technologies allow you to break down a fishery in a day, which used to take years -- this is great for catching fish but always requires a thoughtful mindset on conservation. Always handle these top predators with care and a speedy release. With the state’s largest water provider expressing concern about being able to meet demand if a drought and toxic algae bloom persists, what is the status of the state's water supply? What does this mean for industry and for drinking water? What's the health of the state's groundwater system and how much is going into the treatment of our water system? This session will look at the various runoff strategies, what can be done to see wider adoption, and if programs should remain voluntary or need to be mandated. Panelists: Chris Jones (University of Iowa), Michael Schmidt (IEC), John Norwood (Polk County Soil and Water Conservation)
