No Philly Special: Seton Hall falls short at No. 15 Villanova as 3-game winning streak ends PHILADELPHIA -- For Seton Hall, there was no second straight Philly Special at Wells Fargo Center. Want to bet on college basketball? See the best NJ Sports Betting sites Tray Jackson went for 16 points and Kadary Richmond 16 points, five assists and three rebounds but Seton Hall saw their three-game losing streak snapped with a 73-67 loss at No. 15 Villanova before 17,803 fans. The Pirates were attempting to win their second straight in the arena but instead fell to 15-8, 6-7 in the Big East. Alexis Yetna tallied 15 rebounds and six points in the loss and Myles Cale had 11 points. I’m proud of my guys, I’m not frustrated at all,” Pirates coach Kevin Wilard said. “They battled. The atmosphere was great. I thought that’s the loudest I’ve ever heard this building since I’ve been here.” Said Cale: “Coach wasn’t even mad at us when he came back into the locker room. “He said it comes down to that we have two good, great programs going against each other and it comes down to the last few seconds.” Villanova shot 15-of-16 from the foul line while Seton Hall was 8-of-9. “We didn’t get in the bonus,” Willard said. “I haven’t been in the bonus in three games against them.” Villanova (19-6, 12-3) has now won five straight against Seton Hall since Myles Powell and the Pirates beat the Wildcats, 70-64, on Feb. 8, 2020 at Wells Fargo in their first win at Villanova since 1994. The Pirates were looking for their fourth win this season over a Top-25 opponent after previously beating then-No. 4 Michigan on the road in November, then-No. 7 Texas at home December and No. 25 Xavier on Wednesday at home. The Pirates visit No. 24 UConn Wednesday, giving them another golden opportunity to boost their NCAA Tournament résumé. After dropping to a 12 seed on various mock brackets during their recent skid following a COVID-19 pause, the Pirates are currently a 7-seed per ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, and a 9 according to to Mike DeCourcy of Fox. Seton Hall continues to play without Bryce Aiken, who missed his seventh straight game while in concussion protocol. The Pirates are now 4-3 without Aiken. “Obviously, we miss him,” Willard said. Villanova coach Jay Wright said once Seton Hall gets Aiken back, watch out. “They can beat anybody in the country -- and they have,” he said. The Pirates led 32-29 at the break after shooting 7-of-14 from deep. Richmond had 11 points at the break and Cale was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc for nine points. Villanova scored 14 points off nine Seton Hall turnovers. The Pirates were 10-0 when leading at the half. “We just felt like this is going to be grind, like this is going to be a Villanova-Seton Hall game,” Wright said. “But they were really good.” With Villanova up 45-41, the Pirates rattled off an 11-0 spurt -- capped by a 3-pointer from Jamir Harris -- to go ahead 52-45. But the Wildcats answered right back with a 9-0 run capped by a traditional 3-point play from Jermaine Samuels (16 points) to go ahead 54-52. Jackson hit back-to-back threes to turn a 62-57 deficit into a 63-62 lead with 3:16 remaining. A Justin Moore three put the Wildcats up 67-65 with 2:10 remaining. After Jackson hit two free throws to tie it at 67, Brandon Slater (10 points) got free for a layup off a Collin Gillespie pass to make it 69-67. Seton Hall turned it over when Jared Rhoden touched the ball going out of bounds and Moore hit two free throws to stretch it to 71-67 with 16.5 left. “They made two huge plays on the offensive glass,” Willard said. “Give them credit, they made two huge offensive plays.” Richmond was then whistled for a travel on Seton Hall’s next possession. Moore (16 points) hit two more free throws to make it 73-67. “I’m proud of this team, I love their effort,” Willard said. “You have to give them credit, they made two huge plays.” The Pirates now head to visit Dan Hurley and UConn on Wednesday (8:30 p.m., CBSSN). The Huskies first visit St. John’s Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust. Please consider supporting NJ.com with a subscription. “Sled head” is about more than just crashes. Subscribe and turn on notifications 🔔 so you don't miss any videos: http://goo.gl/0bsAjO In recent years, the sliding community — made up of skeleton, bobsleigh, and luge athletes — has experienced a spate of brain injury-related tragedy. At first glance, the reason why seems obvious: Sleds regularly reach speeds that top 90 miles per hour, and crashes are unfortunately very common. But there is growing research that shows it might be the act of sledding itself that is the main driver of brain injury. With every run, athletes are exposed to immense force and vibration, causing micro-concussions that can ultimately add up to major damage. Those concussions are mild enough that they can go undiagnosed. But among sledding athletes the symptoms that indicate a micro-concussion — headaches, dizziness, etc. — are so common they have a special nickname, “sled head.” There’s a lot science still doesn’t know about sled head and the brain in general. But from what we can tell, it’s pretty clear that sliding sports put the brain health of athletes at risk. Further reading: When researching this piece, I spoke with the German skeleton team’s coach, Mark Wood. He’s working with Christina and Peter to push for research and regulation that might protect sliding athletes in the future. He wrote a great essay sharing his perspective on the sport and its dangers here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/head-first-safe-the-sport-skeleton-mark-wood-mbe/ Peter, Christina, Mark and neuropsychologist Aliyah Snyder are currently developing a survey surrounding sliding athlete's concussion and injury histories. Amazon Link to WVU Gear: https://amzn.to/3ASRCJL In this video, Texas Tech vs. West Virginia Recap | Game 2 | Red Wrecks the Old Gold & Blue, I will review the Big 12 college basketball game between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and West Virginia Mountaineers. This was the second of two regular season games between the two squads and this one transpired in Morgantown, West Virginia. Texas Tech won the game 60-53. West Virginia's leading scorer, and the second leading scorer in the Big 12, Taz Sherman did not play in the game due to being in concussion protocol. Sherman suffered the injury in the previous game against Baylor. Even without Sherman, the Mountaineers were able to hang with the #14 ranked Red Raiders, even getting a 9-point lead at one time. The Mountaineers were led by Jalen Bridges & Sean McNeill, who scored 16 & 15 points respectively. Gabe Osabuohien pulled down 13 rebounds for the Mountaineers and was a beast on the defensive end. The Red Raiders continued their stifling defense by holding the Mountaineers to 4 of 32 shooting in the second half. Offensively, they had three players in double figures: Bryson Williams poured in 15, Davion Warren had 11 and Kevin McCullar had 10. The Red Raiders move to 18-5 on the season and the Mountaineers lose their seventh straight, falling to 13-9. #WreckEm #HailWV #WVUMBB 🏈To contribute to Couz's Corner:🏀 Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/CouzsCorner PayPal: https://paypal.me/couzscorner?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US CashApp: https://cash.app/$CouzsCorner 🌟Patreon🌟: https://www.patreon.com/couzscorner ✨Email: couz.walker@gmail.com ✨ Fanatics Link to "Just Us WVU' T-Shirt: https://fanatics.93n6tx.net/JustUsWVU Chapters: 00:00 - Intro 01:03 - Team Stats 02:23 - Key Player Stats for West Virginia 02:45 - Key Player Stats for Texas Tech 03:15 - Top Three Reasons West Virginia Lost 04:35 - Positive Takeaways for the Mountaineers 06:17 - Players' Reactions to Fans on Twitter 09:32 - Calls To Action & Outro Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/couz206 Subscribe: https://youtube.com/c/CouzsCornerSports This channel is dedicated to covering college football and basketball, with a big focus on the West Virginia Mountaineers. World Rugby really has to throw out their current framework when dealing with dangerous hits. I have no idea how a hit like this is only yellow card worthy but they have no problem giving a red card for an accidental head on head clash. A hit like this where Josh Adams clearly ignores the ball and actively seeks out Johny Sexton to go in recklessly with his shoulder to hit Sexton with full force when he simply had no right to make the hit. How on earth is this just a yellow card but when two players accidently head clash it's a red card. Does World Rugby even knows how a player can suffer a concussion or are they under the illusion it's only from head to head clashes? Because it really seems that way if you go through their framework. My issue with this incident is this, Jaco Peyper, his TMO and his AR discussed this and came to these conclusions: 1.) It was clear Foul Play 2.) Reckless and Dangerous 3.) Shoulder used with Full Force 4.) Josh Adams could've avoided the hit if he looked at ball If you read that, that is red card worthy. But because the the hit was an inch below his head, it's only a yellow card, despite the hit having the potential to cause serious damage like a concussion. This was a clear cheapshot, there is no other way of saying it. If this was a case where Josh Adams thought Sexton had the ball, I would've much less harsh, but in the replays you clearly see him ignoring the ball and just eyeing Sexton throughout the process to make the cheapshot. He could've pulled out or simply just went for the ball, but he went to make a dirty hit, which is much more dangerous reckless than a accidental head on head clash which they don't mind giving red cards for
In this video, West Virginia vs. Baylor College Basketball Recap 2022 | Mountaineer Fan Calls Out Referees, I will recap the Big 12 hoops contest between the West Virginia Mountaineers & Baylor Bears, that occurred on January 31, 2022. The West Virginia Mountaineers dropped their sixth straight game to the #8 Baylor Bears by the score of 81-77. The game was held in Waco, TX and aired on ESPN. The Mountaineers played well in the game, but got outrebounded by the Bears, which proved to be the difference in the game. An image of Liverpool forward Sadio Mane lying in a hospital bed after Tuesday's frightening head collision at the Africa Cup of Nations has surfaced online. In Senegal's 2-0 last 16 triumph against Cape Verde, Mane had an exciting second half before being substituted after 70 minutes. As Sadio Mane was about to score a goal, Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha was sent off for a clumsy challenge on the outside of the area. Mane seemed to be 'knocked out' after the collision, according to BBC's John Bennett. He was allowed to play, and just six minutes later, he made an amazing curling goal that put the game on the board. With 20 minutes to go, he seemed to be concussed by his collision with Vozinha. OK Guys, its time to have a chat about a couple of incidents which occurred in the game last night between the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Wild. During the first period, after a scramble near the Canadiens goal, the Captain of the Wild, Jared Spurgeon, raced towards the net, and his shoulder hit Christian Dvorak in the head on the way, causing him to fall down as a result. Dvorak would leave the game, due to the concussion protocol, and Dominique Ducharme would confirm that he failed his tests and would not return. Will Spurgeon receive a phone call from the department of player safety? Let me know your thoughts down below. The Wild destroyed the Habs by a score of 8-2, and during the end of the 3rd period there was also some more rough stuff beteween Michael Pezzetta, Matt Dumba and Marcus Foligno that I cover as well.
