Cam Jordan, New Orleans Saints Defense Keep Fighting For NFL Playoff Push
The New Orleans Saints have been through so much this season that even being able to talk about them as potential playoff contenders highlights their resilience. Displaced to start the season, down a Hall of Fame quarterback in Drew Brees, several battles through the COVID complications across the NFL, relentless injury news, and so much more. The Saints have had their backs against the wall all season but the team's leaders on the field and off have never stopped punching. Head Coach Sean Payton deserves a ton of credit for the job this team has done. Now one win and just a little help away from a fifth-straight playoff appearance. The Saints were led by their defense again, but their special teams and offensive units did exactly what they needed to do to win. No turnovers by Taysom Hill, Alvin Kamra, and the Saints offense. Blake Gillikin, JT Gray, and the special teams unit flipped the field with great results. And the defense kept in pursuit of Sam Darnold and the Carolina Panthers, completely shutting them down in the second half, sacking Darnold 7 times, and generating two key takeaways including another game-sealing interception by C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Defensive end Cam Jordan is more than an edge rusher. As an edge defender and unflappable leader, he's been the tone-setter for the New Orleans Saints defense for over a decade and instead of slowing down, he's picking up. With 7.5 sacks over the last three games, Jordan surpasses 10 sacks for the sixth time in his career and has turned his Hall of Fame resume into one that no longer questions his claim to Canton, but turns it into a matter of when, not if. New Orleans Saints Expect To Compete Despite Being Short-Handed Vs. Miami Dolphins.
The New Orleans Saints may be dow 21 players going into the Monday Night matchup against the Miami Dolphins, but that won't stop them from believing they can put together a winning roster and gameplan. The Saints went so far as to sign Blake Bortles to back up young Ian Book and even call Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers to try to lure them out of retirement. The NFL is not going to move this game, so New Orleans must find a way to win under more trying circumstances. No Taysom hill and Trevor Siemian has dominated the airwaves this week, but the Saints may have a big concern on the defensive side as well without both Demario Davis and Kwon Alexander. Can rookie Pete Werner step up into a shot-caller role? And will Zack Baun be the guy to line up beside him despite struggling in Week 2? The Saints will have most of their go-to secondary available, but ironman Malcolm Jenkins looks poised to miss the Monday Night showdown. Ian Book Likely To Start For New Orleans Saints As Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian Head To Reserve List
The New Orleans Saints added quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian to the COVID/Reserve list Thursday morning leading to the expectation that rookie QB Ian Book will be the starter on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins. With Jameis Winston's season over on the injured reserve list, Book would be the fourth starting signal caller for the Saints. Ian Book was a highly-coveted draft prospect by the New Orleans Saints beyond just his Senior Bowl performance. As the winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history, the Fighting Irish alum crafted a high profile which checked a lot of boxes for Sean Payton, Ronald Curry and even drew praise from Drew Brees himself. Expect the Saints offense to look akin to what it did in the team's win over the New York Jets a pair of weeks ago.
