Mets drop clunker in Cardinals finale as benches clear | New York Post Sports

It took until Game 20 of the season for the Mets to turn in a clunker. Carlos Carrasco yielded the team’s worst starting pitching performance of the season, the offense stalled after one breakout inning and the base running was suspect. Those forces conspired Wednesday to end the Mets’ winning streak at three with a 10-5 loss to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. #Mets #Cardinals #PeteAlonso Subscribe and don't miss out on all the key news, highlights, and interviews about the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Devils, Islanders and what's buzzing in the sports world too! Gokulam defeated Sreenidhi to top the league
Gokulam defeated Sreenidhi to top the league

Gokulam Kerala climbed to the top of the Hero I-League 2021/22 table with a win over Sreenidi Deccan on Tuesday at the Kalyani Stadium. The defending champions rode on two goals from Bouba Aminou (4′) and Jourdaine Fletcher (31′) in the first half to take control of the match. An early second half goal from David Castaneda (48′) turned the contest into an edge-of-the-seat thriller, but Gokulam Kerala managed to hold on to their lead till the final whistle. The match started with Gokulam Kerala in attack straightaway as Luka Majcen took a shot from inside the box before it was deflected away by the goalkeeper. The defending champions made most of the early corner as Sharif Mohammad’s cross inside the box was headed into the back of the net by Bouba Aminou to give Gokulam Kerala a 1-0 lead. With Sharif Muhammad and Luka Majcen driving the attack, Gokulam Kerala maintained dominance inside Sreenidi Deccan’s half. In the 11th minute, Jourdaine Fletcher took a header at the target after receiving a cross from his right but it went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands. Ten minutes later, Sreenidi’s Arijit Bagui took a free kick from a dangerous position but it was well saved by goalkeeper Rakshit Dagar to deny the opposition. As the game progressed, Sreenidi Deccan started getting on the ball and creating opportunities. In the 29th minute, Sreenidi almost scored the equaliser before a timely intervention from Gokulam Kerala’s defender at the goalpost. A counter-attacking move led to Gokulam Kerala doubling their lead in the 31st minute as Fletcher received a quick pass from Majcen, and the Jamaican forward struck his left foot on the ball to hit it past the goalkeeper. Minutes later, Castaneda received the opportunity to get a goal back for his team, but his header went wide off the mark. The Malabarians had to make a forced change as goalscorer Fletcher got injured and was replaced by Sreekuttan late in the first half. Sreenidi Deccan continued to search for a goal as the clock ticked down, but were unable to score by the halftime. A spirited Sreenidi Deccan got a goal back at the start of the second half with Castaneda hitting a fantastic shot from outside the six-yard box into the back of the net. Gokulam Kerala made a quick change soon after conceding the goal, bringing on Zodingliana in place of Jithin MS. Six minutes later, they made two more changes, bringing on Rishad and Alex Saji in place of Thahir Zaman and Emil Benny. Gokulam Kerala started playing deep inside their own half, moving cautiously, while Sreenidi Deccan started enjoying most of the possession in the match. In the 71st minute, Ogana received the ball on the left, and broke through on the left flank before being stopped by Muhammad Uvais. As the match headed to the final 10 minutes, the intensity of the game reached its peak with Sreenidi Deccan putting the pressure on the opposition. In the 82nd minute, a defensive error from Sreenidi allowed Sreekuttan to break through with a clear pathway to the goal. But he made the wrong choice to make a cross inside the box, and it was saved by the goalkeeper Shibinraj Kunniyil. A set-piece at the stroke of full time taken by Lal Chungnunga was defended well by Bouba Aminou, and the ensuing corner did not yield any results for Sreenidi either. Gokulam Kerala managed to hold down the fort before the final whistle and picked up their sixth win of the season. #gokulamkerala #gkfc #ILeague #Indian Football

Avery Bradley and Talen Horton-Tucker scored 21 points apiece for the Lakers, who have won five of six overall while remaining perfect on a five-game homestand that ends Sunday. With Anthony Davis the only major contributor still absent from their injury-plagued roster, the Lakers had a season-high 37 assists and continued to play their most cohesive basketball of their tumultuous season. ''We're getting our guys back,'' said James, who also had nine assists, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. ''It's literally that simple. We're starting to see what we have because guys are in the lineup. Soon we're getting (Kendrick) Nunn as well, and not too long after that, AD returns. When you're building a team with depth and chemistry on the floor, and when too many guys are out, it's too early to gauge it.'' Trae Young had 25 points and 14 assists, and John Collins scored 21 points in his return to the Hawks, who have lost five of seven amid significant coronavirus problems. Atlanta dropped to 2-3 on a six-game trip, its longest of the season. Los Angeles led by 19 early in the fourth quarter, but Atlanta trimmed the margin to 10 before the Lakers closed it out with dramatic dunks from James and Monk, who soared through the lane for a put-back slam with 1:56 to play. Monk scored 21 points in the first half while hitting eight of his first nine shots in his latest impressive performance for the Lakers, who signed him as a free agent in the offseason. Monk averaged 20.7 points per game in Los Angeles' previous six games starting on Christmas, showing off his quick-release jumper with multiple 3-pointers in every outing. ''What we love about him is that he can create, and he can be a finisher,'' Lakers coach Frank Vogel said. ''He's playing really well in all ways you can offensively.'' Coach Nate McMillan is still away from the Hawks under the NBA's health and safety protocols, but starters Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic returned to uniform after clearing the protocols earlier in the week. Collins had missed the Hawks' previous five games, and Bogdanovic scored 15 points after missing the last four. Once again, Atlanta's main problem was defense: The Hawks yielded at least 130 points for the eighth time since November and in its fourth consecutive loss. ''We've got to do a better job,'' Atlanta interim coach Joe Prunty said. ''Because in a game like tonight, you have a guy like Malik Monk and Avery Bradley who weren't necessarily causing the problems, but they were getting the benefits. We need to be better defensively.'' Young added nine rebounds to another outstanding performance despite a lower back injury that forced him to miss Atlanta's last game in Sacramento after he dropped 56 in Portland on Monday. ''I think defense is an effort thing,'' said Young, who broke Dominique Wilkins' franchise record by scoring at least 25 points in his 17th consecutive game. ''It's not necessarily a skill too much. It's more about effort and your want, and a lot of it is game plan. Those two things to hand in hand, and I think we've got to do better on both of them. We've got to want it more.'' TIP-INS Lakers: Austin Reaves' contract also became fully guaranteed Friday in an unsurprising decision. The rookie is a regular rotation player off LA's bench. ... Was Lewis Hamilton ROBBED? | The F1 Breakdown | Abu Dhabi GP
Was Lewis Hamilton ROBBED? | The F1 Breakdown | Abu Dhabi GP

So the race started, and by the end turn 7 we had our first bit of controversy. Hamilton, again, got a blinder of a start, with Verstappen just not getting away well at all. And with Hamilton on the inside, he slipped into the lead quite easily. Even though Verstappen’s start wasn’t great, his tyres were up to temperature quicker and he was looking quick in the first few corners. He got a great run out of the turn 4 hairpin and was in Hamilton’s slipstream. By the end of the straight Verstappen was two or three car lengths behind the Hamilton at the braking zone - he didn’t look like he was in a position to try and make a move - and yet he did. But before we get into whether what happened was fair or not, it’s worth talking about Verstappen’s “jink and dive” technique - that’s not actually what people call it, it’s what’s going on. I think I’ll coin that one. It’s where Verstappen - and other drivers - turn the car sharply just before a braking zone - and then brake. They then drive in a diagonal line down to the apex of the corner. It’s not the quickest racing line, but it’s great for overtaking because you can brake late and the diagonal route to the apex is shorter than the normal racing line - increasing the opportunity for an overtake. ➤ Join our Driver61 Community Discord! - https://discord.gg/Driver61 ➤ Subscribe for more incredible motorsport: https://goo.gl/AbD2f9 ➤Follow us on: ➤ Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta ➤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ➤ iPad Drawing sponsored by Concepts, you can get an exclusive free trial here! - https://concepts.app/driver61 Ok, so Verstappen lunges Hamilton, but gets ahead by the apex. Lewis tries to turn in, but Max is already there. The two make very slight contact. Verstappen keeps it in the track, and Hamilton skirts across the runoff, keeping his position. So let’s look at it from the perspective of each driver. First, Verstappen. He was on the softer tyre compared to Hamilton - on which he was supposed to get a better start and gap him over the first 15 laps. So, after the bad start, he needed to make a move quickly. Verstappen’s championship position also meant he could be bolder with his wheel-tp-wheel racing. Plus, it’s Verstappen, who as we know absolutely sends it with any opportunity. There’s no doubt this was an aggressive move, but this time - as opposed to some of the other incidents we’ve seen this year, Verstappen managed to keep it on the track - within the white lines. So, in my opinion, Verstappen make an aggressive move, but one that was completely legal. He did force Lewis of the track, but Lewis was on the outside and could have yielded earlier. The way I like to think about racing is that as long as one driver doesn’t t-bone [add funny image] another, aggressive racing is ok. Maybe it’s because of my racing background, but I like aggressive racing and I accept it when someone does it to me. 📺 F1 Driver’s Technique Explained ➤ Senna’s bizarre technique: https://bit.ly/3lORK59 ➤ How Schumacher’s style won 7 championships: https://bit.ly/3527cVz ➤ Alonso’s strange steering: https://bit.ly/2Z7a93v ➤ How Verstappen will be F1 champion: https://bit.ly/3jK6L6n ➤ How Verstappen is so fast in the wet: https://bit.ly/32WMVhr 📺 F1 Engineering ➤ How F1 brakes work: https://bit.ly/3h0Whh0 ➤ How an F1 clutch works: https://bit.ly/3i0oDJM ➤ What’s inside an F1 gearbox: https://bit.ly/2DzMqRW ➤ How F1 teams change four tyres in two seconds: https://bit.ly/2QVpkIl 🏎️ Track & Racing Driver! ➤ Get a free report on your track driving: http://bit.ly/2LmYNBA ➤ Get faster on track with our FREE 25-part tutorial series:http://bit.ly/2PypIMK ➤ Our real-world training programmes: http://bit.ly/2ktjtgV 🏁 Sim Racers! ➤ My sim wheel: https://bit.ly/354BBlY ➤ My sim pedals: https://bit.ly/3eJckQo ➤ Our sim racing course: https://bit.ly/34WuV7p ➤ Get a free report on your track driving: http://bit.ly/2LmYNBA ➤ Driver61 Sim Racing Channel: http://bit.ly/2BMdk4B #F1 #AbuDhabiGP #TheF1Breakdown

Did Verstappen BRAKE CHECK Hamilton? | Saudi Arabia GP | The F1 Breakdown
Did Verstappen BRAKE CHECK Hamilton? | Saudi Arabia GP | The F1 Breakdown

🔔 Join our Driver61 Discord Server for Next Week's Watchalong! ➡️ https://bit.ly/3lkO5gJ Okay, another crazy race, and what a twisting story it was. Yet again, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were often fighting for the same piece of race circuit. So let’s break down some of the incidents from the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Why did Verstappen crash in qualy, when he didn’t really need to? Was Lewis’ racing fair after the first restart? Will Verstappen EVER yield in wheel-to-wheel racing? And, did he brake test Lewis? First off, the drama all started on Saturday, when Max had put together a mostly astonishing lap - fast, hard and taking risks. He was over 2 tenths up on Hamilton at the end of sector two. Then into the final corner he tried to carry a little too much speed in, locked a front left tyre. Whether or not he needed to be pushing so hard at this point is debatable - especially when he had a good margin. However, it’s unlikely he knew Hamilton’s time, I doubt he was talking to his engineer during the lap (as the Jeddah circuit requires so much focus with little break). So, Verstappen’s only reference would have been his own time delta - the plus or minus his best time - on the steering wheel.
