The Warriors pulled off one shorthanded win earlier this trip, but the Grizzlies made sure that wouldn’t happen again on Monday as the Dubs ended their five-game road trip with a 123-95 defeat in Memphis. The Warriors’ defense kept them in it through the first quarter, but the Grizzlies broke the game open in the second period, stretching what was a four-point lead to 26 by halftime, and the Warriors never threatened a comeback in the second half. Jordan Poole led the way for the Dubs with a game-high 25 points, Moses Moody scored 18 off the bench and Jonathan Kuminga added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists as the Dubs finished their five-game road trip with a 1-4 record, falling to 48-28 on the season after losing six of their last seven games overall. After missing 29 of the last 30 games, including the last 21 over a three-week stretch, Andre Iguodala (lower back tightness) saw his first game action since Feb. 7. He checked into the game at the 3:18 mark of the first quarter and promptly hit a corner 3-pointer on his first offensive possession of the game. Iguodala finished with six points, three rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes of game action, and the Warriors were a plus-two with him on the floor. With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 53-23 on the season, and 18-2 without All-Star guard Ja Morant, who missed Monday’s game with right knee soreness. Memphis has won nine of their last 10 games and their magic number to lock in the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs is two, meaning they need any combination of two more wins or Warriors losses to secure the second seed. Memphis took the lead for good during a 7-0 run to close the first quarter, and that grew to a 14-1 spurt in the second period as the Grizzlies held the Warriors without a basket for nearly seven minutes. Memphis would add a separate 16-0 run in the period, as the Warriors shot just 27 percent from the floor in the first half. After playing the team with the NBA’s second best record on Monday, the Dubs will take on the league-leading Suns (61-14) on Wednesday night. @verizon || Game Rewind
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame, but the Atlanta Hawks responded with an 11-0 run to close the first half and continued to carry that momentum to hand the Dubs an 18-point deficit entering the final frame. Verizon | Game Rewind
Keldon Johnson hit a game-winning shot with .3 seconds remaining in regulation to give the San Antonio Spurs a 110-108 win over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night at Chase Center. The Warriors trailed by as many as 14 points in the game and clawed their way back in to tie the game with 2:49 remaining. The two teams traded a couple of baskets and a Jordan Poole layup evened the game at 107-107 with 54.4 seconds to go. From there, the game went wacky. A Dejounte Murray miss gave the Warriors a chance to take the lead with under 30 seconds remaining. Klay Thompson missed a 22-footer, but an Otto Porter Jr. offensive rebound gave the Warriors a second chance to take the lead. Jordan Poole missed a deep three for the lead, but the Dubs secured another offensive rebound. This time, with Jonathan Kuminga making an incredible hustle play to save the ball and find Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins was almost immediately fouled and went to the free throw line with 3.0 seconds remaining. Wiggins made the first free throw, but missed the second, resulting in a Warriors 108-107 lead. As the second free throw came off of the rim, Warriors center Kevon Looney was charged with a foul on Jakob Poeltl. Poeltl, a 49 percent free throw shooter, tied the game at 108-108 on the first free throw. The center missed the second attempt with 2.4 seconds left, but a loose ball ended up in the hands of the Spurs’ Keldon Johnson who was able to bank in a shot with .3 seconds left on the clock to give the Spurs a win. @verizon || Game Rewind
A dominant second quarter gave the Warriors the cushion they needed as they snapped a five-game losing streak with a 112-97 victory over the Clippers on Tuesday night at Chase Center. Rookie Jonathan Kuminga had perhaps his best all-around game as a pro and Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole had 20 points apiece as the Dubs picked up their second win since the All-Star Break. Playing on the back end of a road-home back-to-back, the Warriors and Clippers were tied at 21-21 at the end of the first quarter before the Dubs took the lead for good with an 8-0 spurt to open the second period. The Warriors would win the quarter 33-15 and pushed their lead to as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter before the Clippers made a last-ditch comeback effort in the final minutes. @verizon || Game Rewind
With just nine active players on Monday night, the Warriors hung with the Denver Nuggets in a 131-124 defeat. Though the Nuggets led through all four frames, the Dubs used an 11-6 surge at the close of the second quarter to bring the game within two points at halftime. The Warriors continued to remain competitive through the second half, however it was not enough to ultimately overcome reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. Jordan Poole posted a team-high 32 points including a career-high tying eight 3-pointers, marking the guard’s sixth outing of 30-or-more points this season. Jonathan Kuminga added 16 points and four rebounds shooting 6-for-9 from the field, and Dubs big man Kevon Looney posted his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Chiozza recorded a team-high eight assists while Quinndary Weatherspoon produced a season-high 11 points. The Warriors return home to host the Los Angeles Clippers for the second game of a back-to-back set on Tuesday night (7 p.m.,TNT, NBCSBA) @verizon || Game Rewind
