Series Three Episode 45: A Tonbridge too far for Saints St Albans City’s fading 2021-22 season was finally extinguished on Saturday, 7th May, by Tonbridge Angels who, fresh from the surprise sacking of manager Steve McKimm, chalked up their first victory at Clarence Park. For City the defeat extended our dismal run to eight points from 14 games. This would suggest that a certain amount of rebuilding is required in the summer. With two wins in two games behind them, the Supersoaraway Saints travelled to Eastbourne Borough last Saturday (5th March 2022) and put in a pretty dismal display when going down to a 1-0 defeat. That game was settled by The Sports leading goal scorer, Charley Kendall, finding the back of the net and the following Tuesday, 8th March, it was the turn of City’s Goal Machine (courtesy of Jonny Seabrook), Shaun Jeffers, to find the target with his 30th goal of the season during a 1-1 draw with Oxford City. Series Three Episode 24: Glorious Cup run is over It was not to be. St Albans City supporters will have to wait another 12 months to see if the club can make it through to the 3rd Round of the F.A. Cup for the first time. It was not the guns all blazing finale to our run that one would have wished for but playing eight games and reaching the 2nd Round makes this a season to savour. The bank manager is smiling too. A time to reflect on what might have been, but not for too long… on Saturday we return to National League South duty as we look to claw back some ground conceded in recent weeks.
