Matt and Scott discuss whether you should get hyped for a lift. They tend to say no, unless you’ve practiced getting hype and your form is good. If your form isn’t locked in, don’t hype. Also, there is an importance for regularity before lifts. Because of this, you shouldn’t act completely differently for PR attempts than lighter attempts. Do the same thing. If you’re an advanced lifter, you might have a pre-PR attempt rituatual that is slightly different than a normal attempt. For Matt, this doesn’t bring hype but rather focus. You need to be intensely focused and present for these attempts. For many lifters, having the one cue that you should focus on can help. Your coach and you develop the one cue for you to focus your technical focus (might be KNEES OUT for the squat on the way up, for example). Lastly, consider the differences between the meet and lifting in your garage and gym and practice for those differences (practice squatting and pressing looking into an open room as opposed to close to a wall). As these routines get more and more complicated, they become harder to top -- and the latest way to add value and distinguish a routine is the wolf turn. The wolf turn has actually been around for decades. But recently it’s become a favorite in balance beam and floor routines. A gymnast will get into a squat position with one leg stretched out. She’ll then stretch out her arms and wind them up. Once she finds her balance, she’ll start spinning. Finally, she’ll stop and return to her original stance. Seems pretty simple, but the movement relies on a delicate balance of mass and inertia. One wobble and things fall apart. Of course, there’s a reason gymnasts perform this delicate balance: points. The turn is used strategically because its relatively high difficulty level means judges value it more than a regular turn. How to Improve Your Power Clean and Full Clean

Hey everyone, here are my three favourite clean accessory exercises to help prepare me for a clean session or improve my clean technique. I try to keep it as simple as possible since Olympic weightlifting, specifically the power clean and full clean can be very difficult to fine tune in the beginning. Just remember you may need to break down the lift into segments before putting it altogether. Remember you need sufficient shoulder, thoracic, hip and ankle mobility to do this lift properly. I suggest being comfortable with a front rack position or front squat and I highly recommend getting that ATG squat before attempting this clean technique work.
