Young Africans (YANGA) Vs Pyramids 1-2 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Pyramids beat Young Africans in play-off round’s first leg. Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC have defeated Young Africans SC 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup’s play-off round. Pyramids’ first real chance of the game came in the 37th minute when Mohamed Farouk’s effort was cleared off the line by Young African defenders. Five minutes later, Farouk was on the scene again when he produced a fine cross for Dodo El-Gabbas, who laid it off for Erik Traore as the Burkinabé struck the ball into the back of the net to score the opening goal for his side. In the 57th minute, Farouk dribbled his way into the Young Africans’ box as the Tanzanian side thought the ball had gone out of play for a throw-in. However, the 30-year-old continued his run and squared the ball to a free Abdullah El-Said who doubled Pyramids’ lead. The hosts managed to reduce the deficit a minute before full-time when Papy Kabamba Tshishimbi scored to make it 2-1. Pyramids will face Young Africans again next week when they host the Tanzanian side in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup’s play-off round. Kick-off takes place at 20:00 CLT. Horoya Athletic Club vs Bandari FC 4-2 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Aristide Bance stars for Horoya in Confederation Cup play-offs. Veteran Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance grabbed a hat-trick for Guinea's Horoya in the first leg of a Confederation Cup play-off. The 35-year-old's goals came in Horoya's 4-2 win over visiting Bandari of Kenya. Horoya were ahead within a minute of the kick-off and scored a second goal before Bandari fought back to be level at 2-2 by half-time. Bance, whose nomadic career includes spells with 22 clubs in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, netted twice during the second half for the multi-national Guinean team. Horoya are bankrolled by Antonio Souare, a businessman who has pumped millions of dollars into the club in pursuit of African glory. They reached the African Champions League quarter-finals in the past two editions, but were knocked out of the latest tournament in the final qualifying round for the group phase. This triggered demotion to the second-tier Confederation Cup as they seek a second continental title after winning the 1978 Cup Winners Cup. Tembo's hat-trick for Zanaco in Malabo over Cano Sport Academy was interrupted by a floodlight failure which temporarily halted play during the second half. He scored either side of half-time to give the Lusaka outfit a two-goal advantage and he completed the scoring 11 minutes from time after Jose Fidel Sipi had halved the deficit. Nigerian contenders had mixed fortunes with Enyimba overcoming South African second division side TS Galaxy 2-0 in Aba while Enugu Rangers fell 2-1 away to ASC Kara of Togo in Lome. Twice African champions Enyimba ended a four-match winning continental streak by Galaxy thanks to goals from Victor Mbaoma on seven minutes and Martins Usule after an hour. Galaxy, who qualified by stunning Kaizer Chiefs in the domestic cup final, impressed with an adventurous approach and had a first-half goal disallowed for offside. A stoppage-time goal from Richard Nene brought Kara victory over Enugu, whose lone continental triumph came 42 years ago in the now defunct African Cup Winners Cup. Kenyan club Gor Mahia were held 1-1 in Nairobi by DC Motema Pembe of the DR Congo after a dramatic clash of two other former Cup Winners Cup trophy-holders. Gor took a second-half lead that lasted just eight minutes, goalkeeper David Mapigano saved a penalty, and they finished with 10 men because Charles Momanyi was red-carded. Big-spending Egyptian side Pyramids built a 2-1 lead away to Young Africans of Tanzania in lakeside city Mwanza through goals from Burkinabe Eric Traore and Abdallah el Said. Fosa Juniors of Madagascar upset 2018/2019 Confederation Cup runners-up Renaissance Berkane of Morocco 2-0 in the Indian Ocean island with the second goal coming from a stoppage-time penalty. The second legs are scheduled for November 1-3 with the aggregate winners advancing to a November 10 group draw in Cairo. Gor Mahia vs Motema Pembe 1-1 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Ten-man Gor Mahia were held to a 1-1 draw by Congolese side DC Motema Pembe in the first leg of the Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday evening. The home side will have their goalkeeper David Mapigano to thank after he saved a second half penalty that would have seen them lose 2-1 on home soil and see their campaign thrown in tatters. “I think the scoreline is not a fair reflection of the match because we had good chances to score. I am gutted for the players because they worked so hard and should have had a better result from this game. We had three or four good situations that we should have utilized,” Gor’s tactician Steve Polack said. His opposite number Isaac Ngata said; “We gifted them a goal after some poor defending and lack of concentration but I love how we responded. At least now we know how they play and we know what to do to win when we go back home.” Gor Mahia Defender Charles Momanyi was shown a straight red card after handling a goal bound effort on the line. Motema Pembe forward Vinny Bangonga Kombe stepped up for the spot kick but saw his effort well saved by a fully stretched Mapigano. With the scores at 1-1, Motema Pembe had broken away on the counter with Misoko Amale swinging in a beauty of a cross from the right finding Junior Mbele unmarked. The forward’s first header was well saved by Mapigano with the rebound being cleared off the line by Momanyi’s hand. William Likuta Luezi had drawn Motema Pembe level, cancelling out substitute Gnamin Yikpe’s early second half goal. Luezi reacted quickest to a rebound after Mapigano had done well to save a Junior Kone Abou freekick from range. Gor had broken the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Ivorian Yikpe who had spent barely five minutes in the pitch poked Kenneth Muguna’s pass over the advancing keeper for his first goal in the competition. Earlier in the opening half, the visitors had good chances to score. Herritier Ngouelou had two chances, his first effort from the left going over while his second after cutting in was saved beautifully by Mapigano. A minute later, Mukoro Amale had a rasping shot come off the bar. Two minutes to the break Gor had a golden chance when both Boniface Omondi and Nicholas Kipkurui failed to convert a cross from Dickson Ambundo with a gaping goalmouth. It was a more balanced affair in the second half. Just after they had equalized, Motema Pembe came close when Likuta rounded the keeper who had come off his line but his shot was cleared off the line by Geoffrey Ochieng. Caf Confederation Cup Play-Offs: South Africa’s Bidvest Wits and Egyptian debutants Pyramids FC earned precious identical 2-1 away victories in the first leg ties of their Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round matches in Maputo and Mwanza respectively. In Maputo, homers UD Songo had fought from a goal down to draw level, but they could not stop the fighting spirit of the Clever Boys who scored a 60th minute winner through Sameehg Doutie. The South African outfit had gone ahead through Deon Hotto, but Songo fought back to draw level through Stelio Telinho Ernesto in the 34th minute. The two head into the return leg in Johannesburg next weekend with Bidvest only requiring a draw to book a slot in the group stages of the Confederation Cup. Fosa Juniors vs RS Berkane 2-0 | Caf Confederation Cup | Highlights & Goals (28.10.2019). Malagasy champions Fosa Juniors earned themselves a massive advantage for a first ever appearance at the group stages of continental football after beating last year’s finalists RS Berkane of Morocco 2-0 in the first leg of the Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round in Antananarivo on Sunday. The Malagasy side which was eliminated at the same stage in the 2018 season will now need to travel to Berkane, with a healthy two-gal advantage in their quest for a ticket at the last 16. Playing at home, they were completely in charge of proceedings and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute through Jean Yves Razafindrakoto. Pushed on by the sea of orange in the stands, Fosa kept their control intact for a 1-0 lead they took through to half time. In the second half, Berkane came back better, seeking a consecutive appearance in the group stages. With a quarter of an hour into the second half, they had a chance to get themselves back into the game with a priceless away goal, but they will only have themselves to blame after missing a penalty on the hour mark. They were made to pay in the second minute of added time when Romario Baggio Rakotoarisoa converted from the penalty spot to give the home side a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into the return leg in Berkane next weekend. The two head into the return leg in Johannesburg next weekend with Bidvest only requiring a draw to book a slot in the group stages of the Confederation Cup. At the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza, Tanzania, home side Young Africans (Yanga) are staring at elimination after suffering a loss of a similar score-line at the hands of Pyramids coached by former Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre. The visitors got into the lead three minutes from the break through Eric Traore before they doubled their tally 18 minutes into the second half through Abdallah el Said. With a comfortable 2-0 cushion, Pyramids were in cool control of proceedings. However, the home side drew one back two minutes from time through Congolese forward Papy Tshishimbi. Yanga’s day turned from bad to worse as defender Kelvin Yondani was sent off for a second bookable offense and will miss the return tie at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo next weekend.
