#NHL #CSP #LEAFSNATION #GMAE1 #2022PLAYOFFS The Toronto Maple Leafs have a chance to win a first-round playoff series for the first time since 2004 Thursday night when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning for Game 6. Toronto defeated Tampa Bay 4-3 on Tuesday night at home to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. They have lost in the opening round of the playoffs in their five previous tries, as well as in the 2020 qualifying round. Last season, Toronto even led the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 in a first-round series before falling. Toronto changed the series script Tuesday. In the previous four games, the team that scored first won. This time, Toronto fell behind 2-0 in the first but came back to take a 3-2 lead in the third period when they scored twice with the teams playing 4-on-4. Tampa Bay tied the game, but Toronto took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone to get the winning goal from Auston Matthews at 13:54. Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe knows finishing off a series is not easy, especially against a team that has won the Stanley Cup the past two years. The Maple Leafs gave credit to veteran center Jason Spezza, who played just under six minutes, for inspiring them after a poor first period. Goaltender Jack Campbell also was a big factor in the victory. He was yanked from Game 4 after allowing five goals but on Tuesday night, he made 32 saves, including a stop on Nicholas Paul's second-period breakaway. The Lightning have been hurt by mistakes. Tampa Bay is not short on confidence as Thursday's game approaches. The Lightning know what is required. #NHL #CSP #LEAFSNATION #GMAE1 #2022PLAYOFFS The team that has scored first has won the first four games of the best-of-seven series that is even at 2-2. If the trend continues, the first goal could be vital Tuesday night when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Toronto Maple Leafs for Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. The formula worked for the Lightning on Sunday night in their 7-3 home victory. Steven Stamkos scored 60 seconds into the first period and Tampa Bay led 3-0 before eight minutes had been played. Toronto had 30 minutes in penalties on Sunday and Tampa Bay had 22. Each team scored one power-play goal. After the Lightning took a 5-0 lead in the second period, Keefe removed goaltender Jack Campbell and replaced him with Erik Kallgren, who did not allow a goal. Both Lightning goals in the third period were into an empty net. Campbell faced 16 shots and Kallgren 10. Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 of 25 shots. Toronto captain John Tavares earned an assist Sunday and has only two assists in the series. In Game 3, also at Tampa, the Maple Leafs opened a 3-0 lead in a 5-2 victory. Three of the games have been decided by three goals or more. In the playoffs, the Lightning are 16-0 following a loss dating to the beginning of the 2020 postseason. #NHL #CSP #LEAFSNATION #GMAE1 #2022PLAYOFFS The Tampa Bay Lightning grabbed home-ice advantage in their first-round playoff series, but the Toronto Maple Leafs could have the momentum entering Game 3 at Tampa on Friday night. A 5-3 victory Wednesday night gave the Lightning a split of the opening two games at Toronto in the best-of-seven series. Three of the next five games, as needed, are scheduled to be played in Tampa. The Maple Leafs aren't down and have kept the focus on scoring twice late in the third period on Wednesday as a positive step. Toronto responded with Michael Bunting's goal, but Kucherov scored on the power play soon after with Toronto right winger Wayne Simmonds in the box. Mitchell Marner had a goal and an assist for Toronto and Auston Matthews added two assists. The Lightning staged a comeback of their own on Wednesday after losing a 5-0 embarrassment in Game 1. Led by Victor Hedman's playoff career-best four points (one goal, three assists) and Andrei Vasilevskiy's goaltending, the Lightning showed why they're in the running for a third straight Stanley Cup. After going 0-for-5 on the power play Monday, the Lightning were 3-for-7 with the man advantage on Wednesday. They were 4-for-4 in killing penalties. Nikita Kucherov added a goal and two assists for Tampa Bay. Through two games, Keefe felt that not much separated his team from Tampa Bay, and being sharper and more disciplined would be a major key going forward. Vasilevskiy made 31 saves and his best was with a flash of his glove on Timothy Liljegren at 1:26 of the second period. With Tampa Bay leading 1-0, Liljegren wired a shot to the top corner, but Vasilevskiy plucked the puck from the air. Less than a minute later, at 2:21, Hedman's stretch pass sprung Corey Perry for a breakaway goal, a key moment for the turnaround. Game #66 of NHL Season 2021-22 saw the Maple Leafs defeat the Bruins in Boston, but pay a heavy price with injuries to 3 of their players. Skill Sessions discusses a particular incident that was indicative of Boston's garbage style of goon play, constantly hitting illegally and after the whistle, and most grievous of all, a cowardly sucker punch from behind that knocked one of the Leafs out of the game. #IlyaLyubushkin #Lyubushkin #bush #boosh #TaylorHall #mapleleafs #torontomapleleafs #thetorontomapleleafs #leafs #bostonbruins #thebostonbruins #bruins #Lyubushkinhall #hallLyubushkin #suckerpunch #dirtyhit #dirtyplay #nhl (Disclaimer: All intellectual property belongs to the original, rightful owner.
