Iyer and Varma batted the longest in the nets sessions, with the former's fitness looking good for a return to the side. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah may be rested to maintain their workloads. The toss-up between Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur will be made depending on conditions. Mohammed Shami is likely to get a game in place of Bumrah. Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(wk), Tilak Varma/Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel/Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj Bangladesh: It's a difficult scenario for them, given that they're already out of the tournament and have also had a few key players missing from the start. This is the ideal situation for them to possible rejig their combination altogether. Mohammed Naim's spot could be in danger after the left-hander's inability to convert starts while Mushfiqur Rahim's unavailability could mean a chance for Afif Hossain. Anamul Haque, a surprise inclusion in the tournament, could also get a go for that opening spot in place of Naim while Tanzid Hasan is in the race as well. Asia Cup 2023: Hridoy heroics prove futile as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh Bangladesh's Towhid Hridoy turned out to be the top-scorer of today's (Saturday) match in the Super 4 stage of ongoing Asia Cup 2023, but his heroics went in vain as Sri Lanka beat the Bengal Tigers by 21 runs in their maiden match of the level. Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan opted to bowl first against the opponents, who posted a 257-run target, courtesy of Sadeera Samarawickrama's brilliant knock at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Bengal Tigers had a good start when they began the run-chase; however, after Mehidy Hasan Miraz was removed by Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka for 28 runs, they started losing wickets at regular intervals. Following the fall of Litton Das's wicket, veteran batter Mashfiqur Rahim and Hridoy built a 72-run partnership to give their side a much-needed break, by the latter was soon removed by Shanaka for 29 runs. Hridoy top-scored for his side with a valiant knock of 82 runs off 97 balls but his effort remained futile as Maheesh Theekshana gave his side a breath of fresh air by taking the wicket Towhid's wicket. The first game of the series is set to take place at the Village in Dublin. India are under a new captain and the squad is pretty much filled with IPL youngsters. On the other hand Ireland also have a fairly new skipper since the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023. So we are in a thrilling contest given the weather supports cricket rather than creating havoc. We rounded off pre-season by beating Monaco 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Gabriel netting the all-important spot-kick to seal the silverware. Arsene Wenger was the guest of honour on the night as two of his former clubs went head to head, and French international Youssouf Fofana opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, however captain for the day Eddie Nketiah managed to restore parity just before the break when he converted a Gabriel Martinelli corner. Another 45 minutes failed to separate the sides, meaning a shootout was required to decide the destiny of the trophy and we managed to convert all five of our efforts, with Aaron Ramsdale saving from Takumi Minamino to ensure we lifted the trophy for the seventh time. A packed house were treated to first Emirates Stadium starts in our colours for Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice, but proceedings took a while to warm up with Aaron Ramsdale’s low save from an Aleksandr Golovin shot the only thing for the 60,000 in attendance to get excited by in the opening quarter. Martinelli was looking sharp however, and the Brazilian was involved in all our best moments of the opening 45 minutes, including an intricate passing move that involved Rice, Fabio Vieira and Nketiah, but the striker was in an offside position when he headed narrowly over. Nketiah went close again after Martinelli tricked his way past right-back Vanderson and got to the byline but the opportunity went begging, and on 31 minutes we slipped behind when Vanderson found himself at the other end, and his cross-shot was diverted into the top corner by the head of Fofana, leaving Ramsdale helpless. The setback seemed to sharpen us up, and we found ourselves in the attacking third much more regularly in the final stages of the half, creating a flurry of chances that would see us get back on level terms before the break. On 42 minutes Takehiro Tomiyasu found Rice on the edge of the box who nudged it past two defenders to seemingly look destined to score, but an excellent sliding challenge by Guillermo Maripin blocked his shot. Then from the resulting corner, Tomiyasu’s powerful header was excellently pushed over his crossbar by Philipp Koln, but the opposition shot-stopper was powerless to prevent us scoring seconds later. Another Martinelli flag kick was sent towards the back post, and Nketiah ghosted between two defenders to create the simple task of tucking the ball into the net to mark his moment with the armband in style. Arteta opted not to change his line-up at the interval, but his troops started sluggishly and were fortunate not to fall behind again when Caio Henrique sped down the left and centred for Wissam Ben Yedder who slid in and struck the post, with the rebound ricocheting off the back of Ramsdale but trickled the right side of the post. Just after the hour mark the pack was shuffled and amongst seven changes Kai Havertz was brought on for his first taste of the Emirates as an Arsenal player, and two other replacements went close soon after. Leandro Trossard scampered through a hole in the defence searching for his fourth goal of the summer but drove the ball straight at Kohn, with Martin Odegaard curling over from the edge of the area as he attempted his trademark strike. The next 3 overs saw the Wolves lose 2 more wickets. A brief partnership between CDG and Nitish Kumar helped the Wolves reach a score of 90 in 14 overs. The Wolves in the Death lost wickets in regular intervals. In the end, giving a target of 129. The Jaguars in reply, looked in no hurry to chase the target. The Wolves bowlers took 2 early wickets, that brought the experienced pair of Litton Das and Iftikhar Ahmed in the middle. They both took time to settle, but once they did they both took the attack on the opposition. In this process, Iftikhar Ahmed took 10 balls to get off the mark.
