Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The 'Moving Day' lived up to expectations as the game ebbed and flowed to leave us with all four results possible with two days remaining in the Test. Considering England's 'Bazball' approach it will not be a surprise if the Test does not go into the fifth day and we get the result on Day 4 itself. On the other hand England will fancy their chances of chasing this mountain of a target going into Day 4. On Day 3 it was all set up by James Anderson in the first half hour before the spinners came to the fore to not let the game drift away from them. Although the visitors lost Ben Duckett before the close of the play and there are doubts over Joe Root's participation due to a finger injury England have ample firepower in the shed to get the remaining 332 runs. The first hour will be pivotal and could heavily influence the outcome of the Test. Who will blink first on Day 4? India's outing on Day 3 was headlined by Shubman Gill but the rest of the batting unit's performances left a lot to be desired. At one stage in the game on the third day they looked to be on course to take their lead over 400 but a bizarre passage of play after Tea saw their innings meander and eventually they were bowled out setting England a target of 399. The hosts have the runs on the board but will still be wary of England's ability to pull off big chases. Given their efforts with the ball in the first inning Rohit Sharma and his men start as slight favourites to win the Test from here more so with the surface expected to deteriorate. India's centurion of the second inning Shubman is in for a chat. He says that it was a good effort today but they could gotten more runs on the board. He talks about the early LBW review going his favour which gave him confidence. He mentions that wicket an easy one bat as the odd ball is keeping some them turning sharp. He ends saying that his father comes to watch most games he actually feels good when he is there watching. When asked about the situation of the game he responds by saying that it still looks 70-30 in favour of India but England have batting to chase. Pitch Report (Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan): Dinesh Karthik: "It's day four of the fantastic Test match. All three days so far have produced different variants for bowlers and the batters. We have Eoin Morgan here. Please take it away." Eoin Morgan: "Good morning DK and to everyone. Of all the days played so far I think this is the most significant pitch report we will do today. We have seen a couple of balls with some variable bounce off spinners and seamers. When you land the ball short of a good length there is a huge crack amongst all of the cracks. Bumrah got a couple of balls to move and shoot low. It was challenging for Crawley yesterday. There is an absolute spider web of cracks today. Predominantly that crack will interest the English batters right-handed batters in particular." Dinesh Karthik: "Joe Root turns one big against Yashasvi Jaiswal. There is an effect of cracks for the spinners as well. If you look at the right-handed batters if I bend forward and look there are a few cracks here that India will be looking to exploit. The question is can the Indian bowlers keep plugging at it or will it be the day when England bring out their sweeps and reverse-sweeps and trouble the Indian bowlers just like they did in Hyderabad?" As they head into Day 3 India holds a commanding lead of 171 runs putting the pressure squarely on England's shoulders. England will need to strike early and consistently if they harbour hopes of clawing their way back into contention. At the close of Day 2 it's advantage India as they continue to assert their authority in this enthralling Test encounter. India's star with the ball Bumrah is in for a chat. He says he enjoyed his spell and he is very happy to get the reward. mentions that reverse swing plays an important role in India and it is important to learn how to use it. Adds that he has grown up watching reverse swing setups and he is very happy that he was able to execute them. Feels that it is important to be patient and set the batter up with good deliveries. Ends by saying that he avoids looking at numbers because it adds pressure. The day began with India resuming their innings with just 4 wickets in hand with Jaiswal and Ashwin at the crease. However England claimed the early advantage in the first session swiftly wrapping up the Indian tail and restricting them to a manageable total. Yet again it was the lethal duo of Crawley and Duckett from the English side who provided a solid start to their team's innings with Crawley particularly shining with a brilliant knock of 76 runs off just 78 balls. While a few English batters managed to get starts they were unable to capitalize falling victim to some unplayable deliveries from the relentless Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah's fiery spell saw him scalp six crucial wickets bringing up his 150th Test wicket for India and dismantling the heart of England's middle order. Adding to the bowling prowess Kuldeep also made significant contributions claiming three vital wickets and forming a potent partnership with Bumrah to trouble the English batters who were bowled out by India inside of two sessions. As the sun sets on Day 2 of the Second Test between India and England it's India who once again finds themselves in a commanding position in this series. With their second innings underway India stands at 28/0 after 5 overs holding a substantial first-innings lead of 171 runs. It has been a day dominated by the brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah and the Indian team as they stamped their authority on proceedings. The square leg umpire Chris Gaffaney was standing pretty deep and by the time he could walk to the bowler's end the clock spilled over. India's day!! Jaiswal continued from where he left off today morning scoring his maiden double hundred. However England were disciplined with their bowling and a combination of Anderson Bashir and Rehan Ahmed closed out the Indian innings at 396. That looked like a just about par score on this deck and England made a good start to their innings. 59 runs added for the first wicket before Duckett was puzzled by some extra bounce. Crawley continued to score a brisk fifty but fell to a superb Shreyas Iyer catch. Then Jasprit Bumrah cut through the middle order like a knife through butter. He made the most of reverse swing dismissing Root with an outswinger Pope with an inswinger and then Stokes with a cutter. The Indian vice-captain ended with 6/45 as the English middle-order offered little resistance. It is advantage for the hosts but they found themselves in a similar situation after Day 2 in Hyderabad and nobody needs reminding how that one ended. Five times in fact since 2000. But only the great Australian team of 2004 had the legs to see an early lead to a series win. That's how hard it is to keep throwing punches in these conditions without copping them back with interest. Even in this decade of impregnability India have found ways to overturn early deficits. In Bengaluru they produced a clinic in attractional bowling. Four years later in Chennai they went the other way and raged on a raging turner. What to expect: Spin but not of the extreme kind. Last time when India went down to England in Chennai they produced rank turners. But the absence of four all-time greats from the team might call for a more measured approach. This one is a black soil wicket with a smattering of dried grass to bind it. The two Tests played at this venue have been characterised by the slightly old-school subcontinental slow burn progression before culminating in fifth-day jeopardy which is how this one could also go unless the warmer temperatures aid faster disintegration. Team India was dealt two big blows on Monday as star Indian duo, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out of the second IND vs ENG Test, starting on February 2 in Vizag. However, TOI has now reported that Jadeja, who has been India’s key player in home Tests, could miss the remainder of the series as his injury ‘could be more serious’. “Rahul could perhaps return later in this series, but Jadeja’s injury could be more serious. Let’s see what the NCA’s medical team tell us”, a BCCI source was quoted as saying to TOI. You would think that India have their noses ahead right now but you never know on these type of surfaces. India are 95/3 at the end of 29 overs and still require 136 runs to win this Test and go 1-0 up in the series. India got off to a steady start to the chase. The English bowlers bowled tight lines and lengths with the new ball and didn’t allow the hosts to get away. Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma took their time to settle in. Both put 42 between them before Jaiswal flicked one straight to Pope at short leg to fall on 15. Tom Hartley removed Shubman Gill on a silver duck in the same over as the hosts suddenly found themselves in a spot of bother. KL Rahul joined his skipper at the crease. Rohit played some lovely strokes and put the pressure back on England. Another gripping session of Test cricket. Just when the partnership was starting to blossom Hartley struck for the third time by trapping the Indian skipper on 39 in front of the stumps. Axar Patel was promoted up the batting order to number five. The decision is paying off for the hosts as he has displayed good technique and held the innings nicely. He along with Rahul have kept the visitors at bay and taken India to tea at 95/3. They require 136 more to win this Test match. There is enough assistance to the spinners and England can still hope of defending this total. They will have to bowl consistent lines and lengths in the evening session to create chances. England on the other hand have been pretty solid with their tactics but they did let it slip in the last half an hour of the session. Tom Hartley seems to have let go of all the jitters from the first innings and bowled brilliantly as he picked all three wickets. Jack Leach also bowled a few overs and looked good but they still need to keep their focus and look to take wickets as the runs will keep on coming sooner or later. the Test match is nicely poised at the moment where both the teams have a chance to emerge victorious. India still needs 136 runs to win and England needs 7 wickets before that. Time is no factor in this match as there is one full day left tomorrow. The Final session of the day is coming up which is definitely going to keep all of us on the edge of our seats as this session can determine where the result is going to fall on this 1sy Test of this series between England and India. Joe Root did bowl well in patches but Ben Stokes would have liked a bit more from him. Axar who has been sent up the top order has done a fine job as well. Session Summary: 29 overs 95 runs and 3 wickets. Another riveting session of Test cricket has gone by and at the end of it India still need 136 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand. England looked to be in control of that session for a long time but India have managed to pull it back nicely with an unbeaten stand of 32 runs between KL Rahul and Axar Patel. For India it wasn't the best of starts as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill both fell in the same over in the first half an hour or so and then the skipper was also undone by Tom Hartley. Rahul though ha taken his form from the first innings and hasn't let that dropped catch of Ollie Pope bother him too much. Chasing 231 the Indian openers were quite watchful unlike the first innings. Rohit was dropped on 5 but he batted more positive than Jaiswal. Hartley who was taken to the cleaners in his opening spell in the first dig bowled beautifully.
