For most of the 2022 Formula 1 season so far the core reason for Mercedes’ lack of performance has been one specific problem: porpoising. A recent, crucial breakthrough with that issue pointed to the world champion team finally starting to salvage its misfiring campaign. But it isn’t as simple as that. Formel 1 in Spanien: Pole für Charles Leclerc, Aufwärtstrend bei Mercedes und Schock bei Aston Martin! Sebastian Vettel wollte es nicht glauben: Eigentlich hatte er sich eine Top-10-Platzierung vorgenommen. Doch daraus wurde nichts: Der umstrittene Aston Martin AMR22 war auch in der neuen Ausbaustufe, die dem Red Bull RB18 zum Verwechseln ähnlich sieht, viel zu langsam! Wie kam es dazu? An der Spitze setzte sich Charles Leclerc im Qualifying durch. Er gewann den Dreikampf gegen Red Bull und Mercedes - trotz eines Drehers im ersten Q3-Versuch. Hinterher war er sogar so gut drauf, dass er sich wohl verplapperte und die Ferrari-Strategie verriet...
