How escaping Red Bull has transformed Alex Albon's faltering F1 career
Alex Albon is a completely different driver in 2022 to the one who looked hopelessly lost during his final months with Red Bull Racing two seasons ago. There was an element of risk for Williams in signing him, as despite Albon being highly-regarded as a driver with tremendous ability, he struggled when up against Max Verstappen at Red Bull. An der Spitze duellierten sich Ferrari und Red Bull um die Pole – wobei Charles Leclerc und Carlos Sainz sich auf den Rängen eins und zwei durchsetzten. Max Verstappen setzte sein frustrierendes Wochenende fort und kam nach einem Patzer nur auf Rang drei. Noch schlimmer erwischte es Mercedes: Sah es am Freitag noch nach einem Aufschwung bei den Silberpfeilen auf, ging es am Samstag wieder zurück – nur Startplatz 6 für Lewis Hamilton, gar nur P12 für George Russell. Mercedes' worst weekend yet in an awful start to the 2022 Formula 1 season has led the team and star driver Lewis Hamilton to a bleak verdict on its fading championship hopes. With Hamilton now 58 points adrift of Charles Leclerc and Mercedes 47 points behind Ferrari, the chances of driver and team securing yet another title together this year look increasingly slim.
