Jack Campbell, Alex Galchenyuk,, Joe Thornton, Jason Spezza and Head Coach Sheldon Keefe speak with the media following Tuesday's 4-0 win in Game 4.
The Montreal Canadiens would play in Toronto tonight to face the Maple Leafs and would end up losing by a final score of 5-2 in a game that could have helped them clinch a playoff berth. Alex Galchenyuk opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game, John Tavares makes it 2-0 shortly afterwards, Pierre Engvall with a softie on Primeau, and Mitch Marner would end Cayden Primeau's night with a 4-0 lead in the first period. Canadiens would get on the scoresheet with Cole Caufield's 3rd career NHL goal and first 5-on-5 goal. Artturi Lehkonen would make it 4-2 early in the 3rd period but Auston Matthews would score his 40th of the year to give the Leafs a 5-2 victory over the Canadiens. With this loss the Canadiens are now 24-20-9 with 57 points in the North Division holding onto the 4th seed. Game 53 and tonight was all about Auston Matthews hitting the 40 goal milestone! Patience young grasshopper, we'll get there! The Toronto Maple Leafs came out flying with Alex Galchenyuk scoring 16 seconds into the first! Montreal came on strong immediately after that, putting forth a wild and crazy scramble shift in the leafs zone for a good minute or so, but alas, left empty handed. The Maple Leafs, or more specifically, John Tavares popped in the Leafs second goal shortly after. OH BABY! In the second half of the first, who other than Leafs legend, Pierre Engvall.....streaked down the wing sniping on the young Habs goaltender, Cayden Primeau. Making it 3-0. OH, but the Buds weren't done there! Mitch Marner came blazing in the ozone, showing speed and skill with some seriously sick dangles! Deaking out Primeau and scoring the Leafs 4th and final goal.....of that period. In the second, Cole Caufield bagged his third goal of his career, bringing the Montreal Canadiens within 3. Early in the third, the Habs cut Toronto's lead yet again, when Lehkonen scored. 4-2 Leafs...But wait! With 4:19 left in the game, the legend and possible God, Auston Matthews scored his 40th goal of this shortened season! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!! WOO!! Go Leafs Go! Leafs win 5-2! Side note, Ilya Mikheyev scored but it didn't count. Should have, but didn't. Dang does he ever have terrible luck with goals being called back!
Auston Matthews, Alex Galchenyuk, Mitch Marner, Jack Campbell, & Head Coach Sheldon Keefe speak with the media following the Leafs 6-5 win against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday Night.
While this certainly wasn't the Leafs best game, they did come out with the win and two big points! The Calgary Flames played a typical Sutter game of defense, but the Maple Leafs mistakes made for a difficult night for Michael Hutchinson, who saved 32/34 shots. Galchenyuk tallied his first goal as a Leaf, Leafs get a little puck luck and Auston Matthews get on the score sheet again! Leafs win!
