The Montreal Canadiens would play in Toronto tonight to face the Maple Leafs and would end up losing by a final score of 5-2 in a game that could have helped them clinch a playoff berth. Alex Galchenyuk opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game, John Tavares makes it 2-0 shortly afterwards, Pierre Engvall with a softie on Primeau, and Mitch Marner would end Cayden Primeau's night with a 4-0 lead in the first period. Canadiens would get on the scoresheet with Cole Caufield's 3rd career NHL goal and first 5-on-5 goal. Artturi Lehkonen would make it 4-2 early in the 3rd period but Auston Matthews would score his 40th of the year to give the Leafs a 5-2 victory over the Canadiens.
