The match will be taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday 23rd May at 7:30 PM IST. Team Preview (Gujarat Titans): The defending champions Gujarat Titans have been in brilliant form in this tournament. They have managed to win 10 of their 14 matches and finished at the top of the points table with 20 points. Now they will be going against the Super Kings whom they have defeated on all three previous occasions. A win in this match will mean that GT will be playing their second consecutive final since their entry into the tournament. The Hardik Pandya-led side has been a perfect example of how a team game should be played. In every match there has been a different match-winner for them with Shubman Gill being their most consistent batter. Mohammed Shami and Rashid have done a great job with the ball being at the top of the purple cap list. These two have ensured that the opposition never gets a reprieve during their batting efforts. The Titans will be going in all-out in this match in order to make it to the summit clash of the tournament and try to defend their title. Josh Little has returned to the GT camp after having a successful international stint in the middle of the IPL. Injury/Unavailability: Shankar regained full fitness ahead of Sunday's league game against RCB and came in as an impact sub to bat at No.3. Considering Shanaka hasn't had a lot to do with both bat and ball GT might turn to Joshua Little in the XI or as the impact sub. The left-arm pacer who was away for the Ireland-Bangladesh series returned to the GT squad ahead of the weekend fixture against RCB. He also trained in Chennai on the eve of the first qualifier. Team Preview (Chennai Super Kings): The Chennai Super Kings have been in good form this tournament. They have won eight of their 14 matches in the league stage. The Super Kings have made it to the playoffs with 17 points under their belt at the second position in the points table. Now they have a chance to make it to the summit clash of the tournament. Even if they lose this match they will have another shot to make it to the grand finale. The Super Kings have displayed good team game throughout the tournament. While there have been some consistent star performers in Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad players like Tushar Deshpande Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana chipped in whenever needed. The team will now need to put on another strong performance to make it to the final of the tournament in one go overcoming the defending champions in Gujarat Titans. What to expect: A hot evening is in the offing where temperatures will hit the high 30s. The conditions at the venue suited batters early on but the wickets have slowed down as the tournament has progressed. It reflected in the scores made at the venue as the average 1st innings total came down from 182 in the first four games to 150 in the last three. CSK themselves were outspun in their last game there against KKR. Tuesday's game however will be played on pitch 5 where CSK and PBKS played out a high-scoring entertainer where the home team's 200/4 was chased down on the last ball. That said they are up against one of the most successful chasing sides in Gujarat. On the other hand Gujarat would have liked to keep Chennai under 160 but they do have the resources to get over the line here. Do we have another Shubman Gill special on the cards? Gujarat being one of the most successful bowling sides in the Powerplay it was Mohammad Shami who opened the attack for them and bowled a quiet first over. Playing in his first game of the season Darshan Nalkande dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in his very first over only for it to be a no ball. Gujarat seemed to have lost their way after this no ball incident and leaked a lot of runs during the Powerplay. They pulled things back nicely during the middle overs and seemed to have control of the proceedings. However they were unable to finish well conceding 35 runs in the last three overs. Shami was he pick of the bowlers for Gujarat with figures of 2 for 28 from his four overs. Mohammad Shami finishes off with a wicket but it is Chennai who have racked up a competitive total on the board! After Chennai were put into bat by Hardik Pandya as they have done all season Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got Chennai off to a steady start. Conway was struggling for rhythm but Gaikwad was fluent as usual and stroked his fourth fifty of the season. After his dismissal the boundaries dried up for Chennai but Rahane provided some much-needed impetus with his cameo. Towards the end cameos by Rayudu Jadeja and Moeen Ali helped Chennai cross the 170-run mark. Up and over! Pitched up on the stumps Saha with a short backlift just thumps it over a leaping Deepak Chahar at mid on for the first boundary of the chase. All the way! Chahar drags it down the leg side Shubman Gill picks it up and flicks it over the backward square leg fence for a maximum. Fraction short and put away! This is bowled over the off stump Saha rocks back and pulls it away crisply in front of mid-wicket for a boundary. Picks the man out perfectly! Another short ball from Chahar over middle and begging to be hit. Saha pulls it away but doesn't get any elevation. the ball travels toward deep square leg where Pathirana doesn't have to move an inch and takes a simple catch. Chahar does get the breakthrough after conceding a couple of boundaries. Hardik Pandya is off the mark in fine fashion! Good length around off Pandya stays put and crunches it through covers for a boundary. Quality shot! A touch fuller around middle and over 142 clicks. Gill just leans in a bit and flicks it brilliantly in front of mid-wicket for a boundary. Gill is on the front foot here taking toll on Chahar. Bowls a length ball outside off. Gill gets on the front foot and swings hard with a pick up pull. Plays it over the mid-wicket fielder and gets another four. GT skipper bites the dust! Excellent captaincy from MS Dhoni to add an extra fielder in the off-side prior to this ball. Quicker one on a length outside off. Pandya stays on the back foot and throws his hands at it trying to pierce the cut through the in-field. Gets an outside edge which flies towards Jadeja at backward point. One of the best fielders in the word sorry the best fielder in the world Jaddu doesn't make any mistakes and won't do mistakes for the most part of the game. Around the wicket. Slightly slower and on a length turning away a bit outside off. Gill rocks back and cuts it hard finding the gap behind square on the off-side. It reaches the boundary in a flash. The Chennai Super Kings have an uphill task ahead of them. Batting first the Royals got off to a sensational start thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youngster from Mumbai came out all guns blazing and hit some glorious shots up front. He struck at a brisk rate and his opening partner Jos Buttler played the role of a second fiddle. The Royals scored 64 at the end of the powerplay. There was no stopping Jaiswal as he continued playing his strokes after the fielding restrictions. He brought up his fifty off just 26 balls. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 86-run opening stand when he dismissed Buttler on 27. Skipper Sanju Samson departed on a run-a-ball 17 in the 14th over. Tushar Deshpande dismissed Jaiswal on a 43-ball 77 in the same over which helped CSK to get back in the contest. The Super Kings bowled well and the Royals lost Shimron Hetmyer (8) in the 17th over who was promoted up the order. Devdutt Padikkal joined Dhruv Jurel and both played some excellent shots. Both Padikkal (27* off 13 balls) and Jurel (34 off 15 balls) hit some lusty blows at the end to power their side to 202 at the end of their 20 overs. The Super Kings picked up five wickets in total with Deshpande finishing with two. They went on a journey throughout their innings. An odd ball is turning and gripping but the surface looks good for batting. The Super Kings will have to create history tonight as they will be chasing the highest total at this venue.
