And in that single moment, the weight of an entire nation left with the ball. July 17, 1994. Rose Bowl, Pasadena. Italy vs Brazil. The World Cup Final had finished 0–0 after 120 minutes of football. It came down to penalties. Italy had already missed two. Brazil had not missed any. It was sudden death. Everything rested on Roberto Baggio — the man who had almost single-handedly carried Italy to that final. He had scored five goals in the knockout rounds.
