The race is set for a dramatic close on the hors categorie ascent of Plateau de Solaison (11.3km at 9%). The shortest road stage of this year’s race, but - without a doubt - the hardest and therefore deserving of its ‘Queen stage’ status. Climbing starts in earnest on the Col du Galibier (20.7km at 5.2%), before the Col de la Croix de Fer (28.5km at 5.1%), then finally the steep slog up to Vaujany, where not only stage honours, but possibly the yellow jersey too will be decided.
