The Gunners had won their opening two games before losing at champions Liverpool on Monday – but Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe struck inside three minutes of one another to seal a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Blades, before David McGoldrick scored a fine consolation for the visitors. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta named a few surprises in his starting line-up as Mohamed Elneny and Dani Ceballos started in midfield and Eddie Nkeitah was preferred to Alexandre Lacazette to spearhead the attack. Nketiah had a fine early chance after being picked out with a ball over the top, but a poor touch took him wide of goal and the opportunity was lost. Blades boss Chris Wilder was left fuming as David Luiz escaped what could have been an early red card. The Arsenal defender allowed the ball to roll past him and pulled back Oliver Burke’s shirt as the forward burst through as a result – but referee Lee Mason was Article link https://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/sport/football/arsenal/arsenal-2-sheffield-united-1-1-6868622
Don't forget to subscribe 🙏 Preview: Leicester City vs. Arsenal - prediction, team news, lineups Leicester City and Arsenal face off in the pick of the EFL Cup third-round ties at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening. The winner of the all-Premier League affair will take on either Lincoln City or Liverpool next week for a place in the quarter-finals. Match preview Leicester and Arsenal have both made impressive starts to their Premier League campaigns by winning two games from two. The Foxes, who somehow missed out on a top-four finish last season after badly drifting away, have defeated West Bromwich Albion and Burnley to top the table. Arsenal have seen off Fulham and West Ham United in their opening two fixtures, meanwhile, having also edged out Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield. Mikel Arteta's side required a late Eddie Nketiah goal to shake off West Ham, while Leicester recovered from a goal down to overcome Burnley at the weekend. Focus now switches to the domestic cup and the chance to continue building some momentum in the opening month of a campaign unlike any other. This will be just the third time Leicester and Arsenal have met in the EFL Cup, sharing a win apiece in those previous two encounters. Avoiding defeat at Leicester is not something Arsenal have done a lot of in recent times, though, losing each of their last three games at the King Power Stadium in all competitions. The Foxes have lost just one of their last 14 games in the competition, meanwhile, in a run that has seen them reach at least the quarter-finals in each of the last three campaigns. That is an impressive record, but one that Arsenal can better - they have progressed past this stage of the EFL Cup in 16 of the last 17 seasons, failing only in 2014-15 against Southampton. Arteta has already won two trophies in his nine months in North London, though it remains to be seen just how seriously he will take the EFL Cup, with a trip to Premier League champions Liverpool to come next weekend. Similarly, Leicester face a tricky trip to Manchester City four days after this showdown with Arsenal, so Brendan Rodgers will likely rotate his squad between matches. If that is the case, it could well come down to who boasts the better squad depth between these two in-form sides. Leicester City form (all competitions): WW Arsenal form (all competitions): WWW Team News Mesut Ozil has not been part of Arsenal's matchday squad for their first two games back, but the playmaker is not carrying an injury and may be in Arteta's thoughts here. Arteta has plenty of other attacking options, however, including the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Joe Willock and Nketiah, who deserves a start after his late winner versus West Ham. Dijon goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has been tipped to join ahead of Wednesday's match and could be in line for a swift debut, but Matt Macey is otherwise standing by. Leicester confirmed the arrival of Cengiz Under from Roma on Sunday and he could make his first appearance in this one, though Demarai Gray and Marc Albrighton are also pushing for starts. Kelechi Iheanacho, another who will be keen to get the nod, has been involved in 11 goals in 14 EFL Cup appearances for the Foxes. Jonny Evans is still not available for the hosts, so a combination of Wes Morgan and Caglar Soyuncu is likely at the back. Leicester City possible starting lineup: Ward; Justin, Morgan, Soyuncu, Thomas; Choudhury, Mendy; Gray, Maddison, Albrighton; Iheanacho Arsenal possible starting lineup: Macey; Cedric, Saliba, Luiz, Holding, Kolasinac; Elneny, Guendouzi; Pepe, Nketiah, Saka We say: Leicester City 1-2 Arsenal Arsenal are winless in their last three games against Leicester and have lost three in a row at the King Power Stadium. However, with both teams expected to rotate for this midweek cup tie, we can see the Gunners' squad depth telling in a narrow away victory. We got off to a flying start in the Premier League with a classy performance and three points at Craven Cottage. Alex Lacazette, debutant Gabriel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were on target while the outstanding Willian claimed two assists on his first appearance for us. Fulham were bright in the opening moments and a misjudgement from Gabriel almost let in Aboubakar Kamara. Bernd Leno did well to claw the ball off his toes. From then on, the home side could not live with our pace, movement and quality. The first goal was a scrappy one. Mohamed Elneny found Aubameyang and his cutback was fired goalwards by Granit Xhaka. Tim Ream failed to clear, Willian reacted first to force a save from Marek Rodak and Lacazette tucked away the rebound. Willian struck a free-kick against the base of a post with Rodak beaten, and Aubameyang almost scored from a trademark burst in behind the defence in the left-hand channel. Gabriel grew in stature as the game unfolded and he marked his debut with a downward header to convert Willian's corner. That effectively put the match to bed very early in the second half. After that it was a matter of how many we would score, and Aubameyang got the third and final goal thanks to a delightful crossfield pass from Willian and one of the captain's sumptuous finishes into the far corner. There will be tougher tests ahead, but this was a hugely-encouraging start to the new campaign. #arsenal #arsenalhighlights #willian #aubameyang #gabrielMagalhaes For more match action, highlights and training videos, make sure you become a digital member and sign up to Arsenal Player. We eased to a comfortable victory at Stadium MK on Tuesday evening as our pre-season campaign got off to a satisfying start. Coming just 24 days after the Emirates FA Cup final, this first friendly of the summer felt like a lightning-quick turnaround – but we wasted no time in getting going. With just four minutes on the clock, MK Dons goalkeeper Lee Nicholls scuffed his clearance and Mo Elneny – back from his loan spell in Turkey – reacted quickest to fire the ball into the top corner from 35 yards. It was quite the return for the Egyptian, and not long after we doubled our advantage as a flowing move saw Cedric Soares find Bukayo Saka, who cut the ball back for Eddie Nketiah to fire in. There was much excitement on social media about the first sighting of William Saliba in Arsenal colours, but in truth he was relatively untroubled – although one rapid turn of pace to race back and win the ball in the area got pulses racing. The Frenchman could do nothing though, to prevent the hosts pulling one back as they curled a ball in from the right and Rob Holding directed the ball past Bernd Leno and into his own goal. Mikel Arteta made six changes at the break as he sought to get minutes into the legs of the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock and we continued to drive forward. Nketiah had a goal disallowed before being replaced as we made five more changes for the final half hour, and Mark McGuinness extended our lead with a fine header. Nelson then added a fourth from the spot after winning a penalty, and that wrapped up the scoring on an encouraging evening for Arteta’s side. #arsenal #arsenalhighlights For more match action, highlights and training videos, make sure you become a digital member and sign up to Arsenal Player.
