Ryan Lomberg had his first multigoal game and scored an NHL career-best three points, Sam Bennett had a goal and two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 20 saves for the Panthers (45-15-6), who tied their record with their 27th home win (2017-18). Chris Wideman and Laurent Dauphin each had a goal and an assist, and Jake Allen made 39 saves for the Canadiens (18-38-11), who have lost six of eight (2-3-3). Huberdeau broke a 4-4 tie at 1:19 of the third period after a turnover in the Montreal zone. Marchment made it 6-4 at 14:43 when he redirected Bennett's pass from the side. Aleksander Barkov scored an empty-net goal at 17:26 for the 7-4 final. Huberdeau assisted on Barkov's goal to tie the record first set by Joe Juneau for the Boston Bruins in 1992-93. It also was Huberdeau's 400th NHL assist. The Canadiens trailed 4-1 before scoring three goals on three shots in the final 3:36 of the second period. Defenseman Joel Edmundson, playing in his ninth game of the season, cut it to 4-2 at 16:24 with a one-timer from the slot. Auston Matthews scored his NHL-leading 47th goal for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Saturday. Paul Byron put Montreal up 3-2 with 2:28 remaining in the third period when he shot between Erik Kallgren's legs on a 2-on-1 with Christian Dvorak. Dvorak scored into an empty net with 23 seconds remaining for the 4-2 final. Jake Allen made 49 saves in his fifth straight start for Montreal (18-37-10), which was eliminated from contention for the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the Washington Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in the shootout Friday. Matthews tied his NHL career-high for goals, and Mitchell Marner had two assists for Toronto (40-19-5), which outshot Montreal 51-18. Kallgren made 14 saves in his fourth start in five games. The Maple Leafs have lost two of three and play the Florida Panthers on Sunday. William Nylander pulled Toronto even 2-2 at 7:33 of the third with a power-play goal. Matthews put the Maple Leafs ahead 1-0 at 36 seconds of the first period with a one-timer from the left face-off dot off a pass from Michael Bunting. He scored 47 goals in 70 games in 2019-20.
