The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium Mohali will host the series opener on Thursday (January 11). In what was a big blow to the tourists Rashid Khan the regular T20I skipper of Afghanistan who travelled with the squad to India has been ruled out of the series after failing to prove his fitness on the eve of the opening game. Rashid missed the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) due to lower-back surgery and also missed the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ibrahim Zadran will lead the Afghan Atalans for the second consecutive series with a 2-1 win against UAE in the recently concluded assignment being the first. Mujeeb Ur Rahman after being rusticated from the Melbourne Renegades squad after a few games due to the cancellation of NOCs by the Afghanistan Cricket Board is back in the camp and will hold the key for the visitors in the absence of Rashid. Noor Ahmad Qais Ahmad Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq are the rest of the known faces in the bowling department with the experienced Mohammad Nabi Karim Janat Azmatullah Omarzai and Gulbadin Naib are the all-rounders. As a result, Mujeeb wasn't part of the recent UAE series while the other two had managed to reach a compromise with the Board just in time to feature on that trip.
