Fuming Santos demands VAR after Ronaldo goal ruled out | Serbia 2-2 Portugal | 2022 WCQ | 2020/21

Portugal head coach Fernando Santos defended Cristiano Ronaldo after the 'Selecao' captain reacted furiously when he was denied what would have been a late winning goal in the World Cup qualifier against Serbia on 27th March, which finished in a 2-2 draw instead. Serbian coach Dragan Stojkovic refused to comment on the refereeing decisions. 0:00 SOUNDBITE (Portuguese): Fernando Santos, Portugal head coach: "Regarding the late goal, I have no doubts at all. The referee himself has just apologised. I have just spoken to him. He said he had just seen the video and that I was right. He apologised. That's the second time it's happened, a referee apologises after a qualifying game. I mean... I told the referee on the pitch, with great respect, that it's unacceptable to play a World Cup qualifying match without VAR and goalline technology. He also told me that on the pitch, about not having the goalline technology. He said it was important to have it. But I said: 'Sorry, the ball was half-a-metre inside the goal.'" 0:45 SOUNDBITE (Portuguese): Fernando Santos, Portugal head coach (on Cristiano Ronaldo's reaction to having a stoppage time winner disallowed): "Regarding your second question, I haven't seen it. I was so furious with the situation that I honestly don't know what happened. I've been told he didn't react well, but that's the total frustration of someone who is denied his late winner and gets frustrated. But I don't know what he's done, so I prefer to not speak about this subject." 1:04 SOUNDBITE:(Serbian): Dragan Stojkovic, Serbia coach: "He (Cristiano Ronaldo) is a great player, one of the greatest in history of football, what I personally had a focus on was Bernardo Silva. He is the player that makes difference on the pitch and that's it, but we did not have any special strategy to stop Cristiano ( Ronaldo) or someone else, simply we wanted to play as a team on the pitch and have the better team win." 1:39 SOUNDBITE: (Serbian), Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic: "Generally, I think that we managed to stop Cristiano ( Ronaldo) as much as we could and control his game." #2022WCQ #PortugalNationalTeam #SerbiaNationalTeam #CristianoRonaldo SOURCE: Serbia Football Association Visit the WeShow Football store: https://www.youtube.com/weshowfootball/store #WeShowFootball features football highlights, previews, reactions and behind-the-scenes footage from the world's top leagues and federations. Calvert-Lewin thrilled with two goals in WCQ opener | England 5-0 San Marino | 2022 WCQ | 2020/21
Calvert-Lewin thrilled with two goals in WCQ opener | England 5-0 San Marino | 2022 WCQ | 2020/21

Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he is "very happy" to have scored twice in England's 5-0 World Cup qualifier win over San Marino. The striker added he was very happy for teammate Ollie Watkins, who scored on his debut to complete the victory. James Ward-Prowse opened the account for England at Wembley, while Raheem Stirling also added a goal before the break. England coach Gareth Southgate praise his squad's consistent performance across the 90 minutes, saying they didn't lose their hunger at all. Wembley Stadium, London, England, UK. 25th March 2021. #2022WCQ #EnglandNationalTeam 0:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Dominic Calvert-Lewin, England striker: (On scoring twice) "Very happy. You know that's what I set out to do. When I stepped on the pitch and I saw that I was starting, I was very much looking forward to it. I knew that I would get chances. It was about staying patient, because we had a lot of the ball. And being in the right place and doing what I'm good at, and that's putting the ball in the back of the net." 0:17 SOUNDBITE (English): Dominic Calvert-Lewin, England striker: (On Ollie Watkins scoring on his England debut) "I know what it feels like you know, not too long ago, to step in to the squad. The feeling he'll have now, scoring on his debut is something that you would have always dreamed of. So he come in a little bit later and we all give him a clap and he had a big smile on his face and I'm very, very happy for him." 0:34 SOUNDBITE (English): Gareth Southgate, England coach: "I was particularly pleased with the mentality for the full 90 minutes. I think the way that we pressed the ball when we lost it, was the biggest indication of that. The whole team were hungry to play. Sometimes these games have been stodgy for us in the past, but I think this team can play slightly differently. We have some creative players who can open teams up and a lot of those chances were created by, by the good pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch. But also some of the interchange of position and the vision of the players. If we were to be ultra critical, we probably should have scored more. But also have to say their goalkeeper had an absolutely fantastic game." "Even at 39, I can still do the ninja stuff" – Zlatan | Sweden 1-0 Georgia | 2022 WCQ | 2020/21
"Even at 39, I can still do the ninja stuff" – Zlatan | Sweden 1-0 Georgia | 2022 WCQ | 2020/21

Reaction following Sweden's 1-0 win over Georgia in their opening Group B qualifier for the 2022 UEFA World Cup. The match marked the international return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, back in the yellow and blue of Sweden for the first time since Euro 2016. Although the 39-year-old AC Milan striker failed to add to his tally of 62 international goals before being replaced by Robin Quaison in the 84th minute, he did provide the assist for Viktor Claesson to score the only goal in the 35th minute. Friends Arena, Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. 25th March 2021. #2022WCQ #SwedenNationalTeam #ZlatanIbrahimovic 0:00 SOUNDBITE (English): Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden striker: (Q. How did it feel to be playing for Sweden again in this stadium? What is your assessment of tonight's match and what needs to improve across the team ahead of the next game?) "The feeling was amazing. I just missed the Swedish crowd, the fans, because the last time I played here was a full stadium. And the atmosphere is different when it's full but the rest was amazing. I was very happy. I was very proud. I had a great feeling when I was on the field and I tried to give my best, like every time, to help the team mates and to help myself to perform. And I think the game was not easy. I don't think we came up in standards where the level is and we were not dangerous as we should be. But at the end of the day, we won and we took the three points that we needed to bring. But things can get better, obviously. This is the first game we have been together for two, three days, and from this point on, it will be better and better." 1:12 SOUNDBITE (English): Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sweden striker: (Q. People like myself (English) remember and try to forget what you did here against England in 2012 (scored four goals in 4-2 win, including with spectacular bicycle kick). Could we still see that kind of magic from you again in a Sweden shirt?) "I think you will never forget this. So no worry about that. But I mean, when I play, I try to do my things. You never know what happens on the field. And there is nothing that I plan to do or think to do before a game, that is just impulsive stuff. I see the situation and I'm trying to do what I think is the best in that situation. So, I mean, I can still do those movements, that ninja stuff. So I still have it in me. Even if I'm thirty nine." (Reporter: Quite an artistic assist from you today as well) "Well, it was a good assist and it brought a goal so it was good. I think I could have done more but better that than nothing." 2:04 SOUNDBITE (English): Janne Andersson, Sweden head coach: "About Zlatan, you can say that he has been with us for two days, two training sessions, so if you look at that, I think he did okay. And I think this game tonight was a frustrating game, as you say. So we take the three points with us and are happy with that. And we have to analyse, of course, and do things much better on Sunday. But we can do that so I'm not worried."
