In a back-and-forth NBA G League game that featured 21 lead changes and 14 ties, the South Bay Lakers held off the Iowa Wolves,114-106, on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa (11-14) and South Bay (17-7) will meet again on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT inside Wells Fargo Arena. The second-place Lakers moved closer to securing a playoff spot in the Western Conference while the Wolves will vie to move back up in the standings for one of the last playoff spots. Seven Wolves scored 10 or more points led Chris Silva, who tallied a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Sampson recorded his first double-double of the season with 17 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Recently reacquired Malik Benlevi continued his strong play since his return with 15 points and six rebounds. Mason Jones of the Lakers poured in a game-high 37 points helped by a season-tying six three-pointers. Mac McClung finished with a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. The Wolves opened the game on an 11-0 run as Sampson scored seven of those early points. The Lakers used their own run of nine-straight points. Iowa made back-to-back baskets for a 28-27 lead at the end of the first. The Wolves recorded an assist on eight of their first 10 field goals. 10 lead changes happened in the second quarter as the teams went back-and-forth. Sampson hit a buzzer-beating three right before halftime that tied the game at 56-56. Isaiah Miller converted a three-point play that gave Iowa the lead at 91-90 minutes into the fourth. However, South Bay countered with a 10-3 run that grabbed control of the game. Later, Iowa pulled within four points when Melvin Frazier Jr. made one of two free throws with 1:05 left in the game. Iowa forced a jump ball that it won but Matt Lewis’ three-point attempt was off the mark as South Bay iced the game with free throws.

But the Wolves were held scoreless the rest of the way as Xavier Sneed knocked down a jumper and Jared Wilson-Frame drilled a dagger three with the shot clock running down and the game clock at 40.6. It was just the second three of the game for Wilson-Frame, but it gave Salt Lake City (5-14) the lead for good. On Iowa’s next possession Vincent Edwards missed a three and the Wolves were forced to foul Carsen Edwards. Edwards knocked down both free throws to give him a game-high 38 points. He made eight three-pointers in the game. For the Stars, Yoeli Childs was next with 22 points while Marques Bolden added 18 and Wilson-Frame finished with 14. The Santa Cruz Warriors held off the Iowa Wolves, 119-113, on Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena in the final game before the NBA G League all-star break. Iowa (8-7) came back from 15 down to get within two points at 113-111 with 1:15 left in the game. Vincent Edwards, who scored a game-high 25 points for the Wolves, made a pair of free throws to pull Iowa the closet in the game since the second quarter. But Jerome Robinson was fouled on the next Santa Cruz (7-10) possession. Robinson, who paced the Warriors with 25 points, made both free throws and the team made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win in the first meeting between the teams this season. The teams will play two more games each other starting on March 23 and 25. Monday night the first two quarters were tightly contested with neither team holding a lead more than single digits. Helped by 10 team three-pointers, the Warriors led 59-52, at halftime. Seven different Santa Cruz players made at least one three-pointer in the first half. Chris Silva, who had been in the NBA since mid-December, made an immediate impact for Iowa nearly recording a triple-double with 18 points and nine rebounds in the first half. The Warriors added to their lead with a big third quarter outscoring the Wolves, 31-26. Leandro Bolmaro scored 14 points in the game after being assigned to Iowa in the morning. Bolmaro played a key role in helping Iowa fight back scoring five points in the run that got the team within two. Brandon Sampson also had 14 points in the game.
The Iowa Wolves played its second-straight game that needed overtime this time coming out on top as the Wolves outlasted the Memphis Hustle, 111-106, in double overtime on Tuesday at the Landers Center. Iowa (8-6), which lost to Austin in overtime Tuesday night, and Memphis (4-10) each scored just two points in the first overtime before the Wolves got all five points in the second overtime from Isaiah Briscoe. Briscoe’s points were the difference as the team forced five misses and one turnover and didn’t allow a point in the second overtime. Ahmad Caver sent the game to overtime with a driving layup with just 0.2 seconds left in regulation after the Hustle erased a four-point deficit with just over 11 seconds left. Ben Moore paced Memphis with 22 points while all five starters scored 10 or more points. For Iowa, Brian Bowen II recorded a double-double with a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Lewis tallied his first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Vincent Edwards had 17 points while Briscoe finished with 16 points. Isaiah Miller and Brandon Sampson each scored 15 off the bench.
A bounce back shooting performance and a big second quarter helped lead the Texas Legends to a 135-118 win over the Iowa Wolves on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Texas (5-3) turned a 12-point second-quarter deficit into a 65-59 lead at halftime and never trailed again as the Legends split the series with Iowa (5-2), which dropped its first regular season home game to drop into second place in the Western Conference standings. Legends’ guard Dakota Mathias, coming off back-to-back 10-day contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies, made his G League return and poured in 26 points. Wolves’ guard Isaiah Briscoe matched Mathias with 26 points and flirted with a triple-double with eight rebounds and seven assists. Iowa, which used a big second quarter to cruise to Sunday’s victory over Texas, didn’t have an answer Tuesday after it fell behind. The Legends made 13 three-pointers and finished at 56.0 percent from the floor. Texas won the rebounding battle 44-37 after Iowa claimed it Sunday. For Iowa, Isaiah Miller had another strong game with 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Brandon Sampson added 19 points. Justin Jackson had 25 points for Texas while Feron Hunt and Carlik Jones added 23 and 21 points, respectively.

Iowa (5-1) was paced by Isaiah Miller’s career-high 30 points behind an impressive shooting performance of 14-of-16 from the floor. In his second game since being assigned by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Leandro Bolmaro stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds while Vincent Edwards recorded another double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Miller’s big game was part of a great performance by the Wolves’ bench as the reserves scored 60 points. Malik Benlevi had 10 points while Canyon Barry and Brandon Sampson each chipped in nine points. The first quarter was back-and-forth with Iowa leading by just two points going into the second period. Iowa broke the game open with a 35-15 scoring advantage in the second as it would lead by as many as 29 points after halftime. Texas (4-3) was led in scoring by Justin Jackson with 23 points. However, Iowa’s defense held him to just 8-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-17 from three. As a team, Texas made just 7-of-37 from beyond the arc. After nearly a month away from Wells Fargo Arena, the Iowa Wolves used a monster fourth quarter in a 117-102 victory over the Memphis Hustle in G League regular season action on Thursday night. Iowa (3-0), which last played at Wells Fargo Arena on Dec. 16, had seven players, including all five starters score double figures in the comeback win. Reserves Isaiah Briscoe with a game-high 23 points and Canyon Barry with 14 points sparked the Wolves off the bench and helped erase a nine-point deficit early in the final quarter. Memphis (0-2) was held to just 19 points in the fourth quarter as Iowa poured in 40 points in the period. Briscoe and Barry scored 11 and eight points, respectively, in the fourth. Vincent Edwards, who stuffed the stat sheet in the game with a double-double of 11 points and a season-high 11 rebounds, was also clutch in fourth pulling down key rebounds and winning a critical jump ball late with the Hustle trying to comeback. Edwards added a season-best six assists. As a team, Iowa blistered the nets, shooting 54.4 percent from the floor and 44.9 percent from three. The Wolves made a season-high 17 three-pointers as Briscoe and McKinley Wright IV, who had 18 points, each knocked down four. Seven Wolves made at least one three-pointer. Iowa turned the basketball over 18 times in the first half but had just three turnovers after halftime. Iowa used runs to end the second quarter and the third to springboard its fourth quarter effort. Jordy Tshimanga had a big game with a season-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds. Brian Bowen II just missed another double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds. Matt Lewis chipped in 11 points while Brandon Sampson, who missed the first two games of the regular season due to injury, had seven points in limited minutes.

Vincent Edwards tallied a team-high 22 points while reserve Isaiah Miller poured in 20 points off the bench. Jordy Tshimanga posted a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. South Bay (1-2), which fell behind by 16 points in the fourth after Edwards’ driving layup, pulled within six points with 2:40 left in the game. But, Iowa, answered with a three by Matt Lewis and his cutting layup between Miller’s cutting layup. Lewis finished with 18 points, including knocking down four three-pointers. As a team, the Wolves made 12 three-pointers while they limited the Lakers to just 5-of-35 from deep. Mason Jones scored a game-high 28 points for South Bay. Brandon Sampson had 13 points while Malik Benlevi and Canyon Barry had nine and six points, respectively. Every Iowa played logged at least 16 minutes.
