The 2021 season draws to a close at New Road as Worcestershire take on Leicestershire in the LV=Insurance County Championship. Daryl Mitchell bids farewell as he takes part in his final game for the club having made his debut all the way back in 2005. Along the way Mitchell has secured several promotions, won the Nat West Pro40 League and the Vitality Blast in 2018. However, this week will be his final game as he retires from professional cricket. The LV=Insurance County Championship returns as Sussex visit New Road. After finishing fifth in our group we restart the competition top of division three, looking to secure a strong finish to the season. After Worcestershire reached 213 with the bat before being bowled out the hosts made the perfect start with the ball as Joe Leach took three wickets in as many overs to reduce Sussex to 3/3. The visitors recovered to reach 199/6 a lead of 250 runs. Day four is set up to be a grandstand finish and you can follow every ball here on our YouTube channel. After Sussex won the toss they set 264 all out as Joe Leach picked up his five-wicket haul of the season. In response Worcestershire closed day 2 on 186/7 with skipper Leach and Josh Baker at the crease. Jack Haynes top scored for the Pears before he was bowled on 47 and Brett D'Oliveira added 38. After Sussex won the toss and elected to bat Worcestershire started the day with the ball strongly, as Joe Leach, Adam Finch, and Dillon Pennington picked up wickets in the opening session. Joe Leach followed this up in the afternoon session, taking two wickets in two balls before Finch and Barnard struck as well. Brett D'Oliveira picked up the wicket of Crocombe before play was abandoned due to bad light, with the visitors 254/9. You can follow every ball of day two live from New Road. As preparation for a return to red-ball cricket, the majority of the first team played in a second XI game against Warwickshire, with Josh Baker starring, taking seven wickets in the second innings. Charlie Morris took a five-wicket haul in the first innings so the bowlers are nicely prepared for the game. Jake Libby continued his fine form with yet another century and he'll be hoping to carry his runs into today's game. You can follow every ball, live from New Road. The Royal London Cup group stage campaign concludes at New Road as the Rapids take on Durham. After Sunday's game against Lancashire was rained off, the Rapids will be hoping to put the pressure on the top teams by securing a win which keeps them in contention to progress to the next round. Jacques Banton took his first Worcestershire Rapids wickets in Friday's defeat to Sussex Sharks. After posting 233, including a fine 33 from Banton, Sussex chased down the total with three balls to spare, but not before Banton took three wickets.
