Recapping the Stanley Cup Qualifier of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jest best of five series. This is a follow up to my play in series preview as part of the My Calgary Flames Game Recaps which is still in season two. Ultimately the Calgary Flames we're able to move onto the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs by defeating the Winnipeg Jets in four games of the best of five series. I also talk about the exhibition game that the Calgary Flames had with the Edmonton Oilers as teams headed into the bubble before the playoffs. All games that the Calgary Flames have played are in Edmonton, Alberta with the NHL Hub City model so games can be played during COVID-19 but without fans. Watch my video where I explain and break down the games and why the Calgary Flames ultimately advanced into the official playoffs. Since the Calgary Flames are advancing into the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. There's going to be a first round series preview and recap video so season two will continue. As of this recording the Calgary Flames will either play the Dallas Stars or St. Louis Blues for the first round of the playoffs. Also go over where the playoff picture sits as of this recording and mull over what some series could see in the first round. Calgary Flames Advance To First Round 2020 Playoffs - Who Do You Want To Draw?
Calgary Flames Advance To First Round 2020 Playoffs - Who Do You Want To Draw?

After the Calgary Flames successfully defeated the Winnipeg Jets in four games of the Stanley Cup Qualifier of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Note that series was a best of five. I talk about the potential opponents that the Calgary Flames will face in the first round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I weigh the potential opponents based both on strength and possible story lines that could be made if the Calgary Flames happen to draw for the first round. I ultimately ask who do you want the Calgary Flames play the most? Please note that I've recorded the video as a few series we're still ongoing. Status With Third Round Draft Pick In Milan Lucic - James Neal Trade
Status With Third Round Draft Pick In Milan Lucic - James Neal Trade

The National Hockey League gave a ruling on what is to happen with the conditional third round draft pick. If you recall that conditional draft pick was involved in the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers Milan Lucic/James Neal trade. The global pandemic with COVID-19 that paused and eventually wiped out the last month and half of the regular season did question what would happen to this draft pick. There was performance numbers attached to it in terms of goals James Neal scored and how many goals Milan Lucic was away. Just don't plan for or anticipate a global pandemic would happen when these trades happen but happy as you see in the video on what side the NHL leaned towards. Also talk about the trade and seeing how it impacted both Alberta NHL teams with James Neal with the Edmonton Oilers and Milan Lucic with the Calgary Flames. It was a strange and unusual trade at the time given the rivalry the teams have but it was mostly a salary cap move and could say a hockey trade as well. https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-decision-on-lucicneal-trade-condition/c-317758784 (Originally accessed Saturday, August 1st, 2020) Please like and subscribe if you enjoy my content to follow along with this Calgary sports fans journey. My Calgary Hitmen In Four - No Games 65-68 Edition (S02E13)
My Calgary Hitmen In Four - No Games 65-68 Edition (S02E13)

Not really a game recap episode that I had in mind. However I still felt an episode was warranted to at least conclude the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season for the Calgary Hitmen four games early. See the link why the WHL has decided to conclude the season when they did. It's unknown if or when the WHL Playoffs will start and with the eventual Memorial Cup Champion crowned in Kelowna, British Columbia at this point. With the WHL Standings and remaining games left for the Calgary Hitmen. It wasn't going to change things too much or if any team outside looking in would of had a shot of making the playoffs. Still with the fate of the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season now known it was at least a nice way to put a bow on the season and also like last season. I've posted all the player stats for everyone that played at least a game for the Calgary Hitmen which this past season was their 25th Anniversary Season. It's too bad with recent events that it ended the way it did but hopefully there's going to be playoffs at some point. Regular Season Games Still Remaining Before Conclusion: Game 65: Saturday, March 14th - Calgary Hitmen @ Red Deer Rebels Westerner Park Centrium 7pm Game 66: Sunday, March 15th - Red Deer Rebels @ Calgary Hitmen Scotiabank Saddledome 2pm Game 67: Friday, March 20th - Calgary Hitmen @ Swift Current Broncos Innovation Credit Union i-plex 7pm Game 68: Sunday, March 22nd - Swift Current Broncos @ Calgary Hitmen Scotiabank Saddledome 2pm https://hitmenhockey.com/article/western-hockey-league-announces-conclusion-of-regular-season (Originally accessed Friday, March 20th, 2020) Calgary Hitmen finish the season with a 34-24-4-1 record for 75 points. Puts them 4th in the Central Division, 1st in Eastern Conference Wild Card and 11th overall in the Western Hockey League (WHL). They would draw the Prince Albert Raiders in the first round of the 2020 WHL Playoffs under current format as the lower seed. May be a little bit of an easier opponent but more travel required. I would assuming possibly employing a 2-3-2 format. Prince Albert would host games 1 and 2. Calgary to host games 3, 4 and 5 with Prince Alberta hosting games 6 and 7. Final player stats for the 2019-20 Calgary Hitmen regular season. My Calgary Hitmen In Four - Games 61-64 (S02E12)
My Calgary Hitmen In Four - Games 61-64 (S02E12)

The Calgary Hitmen at this stage are playing out the string after clinching a playoff spot in the last episode. This episode is the first of two four game recaps to close out the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season to make the math work. The Calgary Hitmen might of faced their future first round opponent in the Prince Albert Raiders in this episode. After playing through these four games and how the standings break down. It becomes more clear in both where the Calgary Hitmen will likely finish and who they may play against in the WHL Playoffs. Regular Season: Game 61: Tuesday, March 3rd - Calgary Hitmen 3 @ Prince Albert Raiders 8 Game 62: Wednesday, March 4th - Calgary Hitmen 4 @ Saskatoon Blades 3 Game 63: Friday, March 6th - Calgary Hitmen 1 @ Medicine Hat Tigers 6 Game 64: Saturday, March 7th - Spokane Chiefs 6 @ Calgary Hitmen 3 After recapping the previous four games in this episode. I take a look ahead to the final four games that remain in the regular season schedule before the WHL Playoffs as the Calgary Hitmen have clinched a playoff spot. Also take a look at the WHL Standings to see potential first round match-ups in the WHL and it looks more clear who the Calgary Hitmen may play in the first round later in the month. Update: All major league sports are suspended with the ongoing outbreak in the world. Unknown when of if the current WHL season will be concluded. Looking Ahead & Games That We're On The Schedule Before Play Was Suspended: Game 65: Saturday, March 14th - Calgary Hitmen @ Red Deer Rebels Westerner Park Centrium 7pm Game 66: Sunday, March 15th - Red Deer Rebels @ Calgary Hitmen Scotiabank Saddledome 2pm Game 67: Friday, March 20th - Calgary Hitmen @ Swift Current Broncos Innovation Credit Union i-plex 7pm Game 68: Sunday, March 22nd - Swift Current Broncos @ Calgary Hitmen Scotiabank Saddledome 2pm Intro: Legend application found on iOS and Google Play. My Calgary Hitmen In Six - Games 55-60 (S02E11)
My Calgary Hitmen In Six - Games 55-60 (S02E11)

The latest episode of My Calgary Hitmen In Six had the team continuing on their road trip through the BC Division on the cusp of clinching a playoff spot and boarding the Calgary Hitmen Playoff Train. After taking four out of five games on the BC road trip. The Calgary Hitmen played the last games in this episode at home including honouring Kelly Kisio as a builder in the "Forever A Hitmen" program. Kelly Kisio was a big part in building the team and leading them to their WHL Championships in 1999 and 2010 so his banner is raised to the rafters. Regular Season: Game 55: Wednesday, February 19th - Calgary Hitmen 3 @ Victoria Royals 2 (SO) Game 56: Friday, February 21st - Calgary Hitmen 5 @ Vancouver Giants 6 Game 57: Saturday, February 22nd - Calgary Hitmen 6 @ Kamloops Blazers 4 Game 58: Thursday, February 27th - Winnipeg Ice 1 @ Calgary Hitmen 4 Game 59: Friday, February 28th - Brandon Wheat Kings 3 @ Calgary Hitmen 2 Game 60: Sunday, March 1st - Lethbridge Hurricanes 3 @ Calgary Hitmen 2 After recapping past six games and going over the WHL Standings to see some playoff match-ups as well who's clinched. I take a look ahead to the next four games as there's now only 8 games left in the WHL Regular Season before the playoffs. The next two episodes will be four game recaps to close out the regular season and since the Calgary Hitmen have clinched a playoff spot. There's going to be a series preview for the first round when the opponent is known and series recap. Intro: Legend application found on iOS and Google Play. My Calgary Hitmen In Six - Games 49-54 (S02E10)
My Calgary Hitmen In Six - Games 49-54 (S02E10)

For the latest episode of My Calgary Hitmen In Six. I feel that the Calgary Hitmen have a little more to play for going down the stretch as they're now in striking distance of the Medicine Hat Tigers to get into the top three of the Central Division. While the first weekend set the Calgary Hitmen had a couple of rough games. They sure made up for it with one game the Calgary Hitmen had an offensive breakout including captain Mark Kastelic scoring four goals in a game against the Regina Pats. Calgary Hitmen also closed out this game recap with a come from behind victory against the Kelowna Rockets. This team did show some heart in this segment. Note here that both Mark Kastelic and Carson Focht each reached the 30 goal plateau for the 2019-20 WHL Regular Season. Almost time to make plans and board the Calgary Hitmen Playoff Train. Regular Season: Game 49: Friday, February 7th - Prince Albert Raiders 1 @ Calgary Hitmen 2 Game 50: Saturday, February 8th - Calgary Hitmen 0 @ Red Deer Rebels 3 Game 51: Sunday, February 9th - Lethbridge Hurricanes 6 @ Calgary Hitmen 4 Game 52: Wednesday, February 12th - Regina Pats 1 @ Calgary Hitmen 8 Game 53: Saturday, February 15th - Calgary Hitmen 4 @ Prince George Cougars 2 Game 54: Monday, February 17th - Calgary Hitmen 6 @ Kelowna Rockets 5 (OT) As usual after recapping the previous six games. I take a look ahead to the next six games on the schedule as now there's only fourteen more games to go before the 2020 WHL Playoffs. Before I take a look ahead. Quickly went over player stats and looked at standings to lament on potential first round playoff match-ups and see if there's any races worth following. I've closed out this video giving my congratulations to Kelly Kisio who'll get honoured as "Forever A Hitmen" on Sunday, March 1st, 2020. Kelly Kisio was a big part of the Calgary Hitmen success as a coach and general manager being part of the 1999 and 2010 WHL Championships. He'll be forever up in the rafters with Brad Moran who has his #20 retired. Ryan Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd are players that are already have their names up in the rafters as "Forever A Hitmen." Calgary Flames Worst Trade: Doug Gilmour Traded To Toronto Maple Leafs
Calgary Flames Worst Trade: Doug Gilmour Traded To Toronto Maple Leafs

Decided it was time to do another trade retrospect video where at or on the date. I talk about a significant trade in Calgary Flames history. With January 2nd upon us. I felt it was time to talk about what I think was the worst trade that the Calgary Flames made to date. On January 2nd, 1992 which was the time when Doug Gilmour was traded from the Calgary Flames to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I give a back story of Doug Gilmour when he started his NHL career and what he meant to the Calgary Flames including being a big part of the 1989 Stanley Cup team before why this trade happened. This trade did happen at the time when player salaries we're starting to rise and smaller market teams like the Calgary Flames couldn't afford to keep their best players like Doug Gilmour. Doug Gilmour was one of the undisputed leaders from the 1989 Stanley Cup team and did score the cup winning goal in Game 6 against the Montreal Canadiens. Fast forward to two and a half years later where Doug Gilmour was in a contract dispute with the Calgary Flames actually left the team after the New Years Eve game on January 1st, 1992. Fittingly Doug Gimour scored another big goal against the Montreal Canadiens which was the overtime winner before he left the Calgary Flames as he knew he could get more money elsewhere. The whole trade is listed below which at the time was one of the biggest ever in NHL history with 10 players involved and now looking about one of the most lopsided trades as well. Worst Calgary Flames Trade - Doug Gilmour To Toronto Maple Leafs To Toronto Maple Leafs: F Doug Gilmour F Kent Mandeville D Jamie Mackin D Ric Nattress G Rick Walmsley To Calgary Flames: F Gary Leeman F Craig Berube D Alexander Godynyuk D Michel Petit G Jeff Reese The Toronto Maple Leafs instantly got a new hero in Doug Gilmour where he elevated his game as one of the best two way centres of all time. What he showed in St. Louis and Calgary and eventually Toronto made Doug Gilmour a hall of famer and got inducted in 2011. Plus his number 93 got retired with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In his first full season with the Toronto Maple Leafs he led the team in scoring including setting franchise records in assists and points in a season that led him to winning the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward and runner up to the Hart Trophy as the leagues most valuable player. Doug Gilmour was also instrumental in leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to back-to-back conference finals in 1993 and 1994 at his peak with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Defenseman Jamie Macoun was also a great player of the defense for the Toronto Maple Leafs that made this trade even more a win for Toronto. The other pieces played a much smaller role but Doug Gilmour being the best player in the trade made it a steal. Calgary Flames really got shafted in this deal when it's all said and done. Gary Leeman who was suppose to be the key piece coming to the Calgary Flames didn't find his scoring ability as the season before he scored over 50 goals. Also had back-to-back 30+ goal seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gary Leeman and all the other pieces in the trade didn't last more than 2 or 3 seasons with the Calgary Flames for various reasons as mentioned in the video. While this trade reduced the salaries spent for the Calgary Flames. They didn't get full value in return for what Doug Gilmour provided to the Calgary Flames and what he provided in his NHL career. Toronto Maple Leafs we're familiar with all the assets as Cliff Fletcher who was the general manager worked for the Calgary Flames including building the 1989 Stanley Cup team. Tom Watt the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs before Pat Burns worked with Doug Risebrough and Terry Crisp on the coaching staff during the 1989 Stanley Cup team. Doug Risebrough took over as Calgary Flames general manager and head coach after Cliff Fletcher left for Toronto and Terry Crisp was fired made this trade which I say was the worst trade the Calgary Flames ever made. This started the dismantling from the 1989 Stanley Cup team and the franchise was set back for many years until 2003-04. There was lots to say about this trade but it was big for both teams that needed a shake up and 10 players we're involved in the transaction. What are your thoughts on this trade over 28 years later of this video? Was there a worse trade the Calgary Flames made? You're very welcome Toronto Maple Leafs and Don Cherry had Doug Gilmour as his man crush during that era.
