Ferrari’s title bid has started in a very disappointing way, after it was easily beaten by Red Bull and its lead car suffered the all too familiar fate of retiring because of an engine problem. New team boss Fred Vasseur said after the season opener in Bahrain that he needed to stick to what he had said in the build-up: that Ferrari could not win or lose the championship at the first race. But it clearly has a big task ahead to catch and beat Red Bull, and its troubled start to the new season didn’t even include a carryover of some of the positives it could take when things went wrong last year. Add in the immediate return of a big 2022 weakness, which was meant to be resolved, and things look even worse. 00:00 A nightmare start 00:52 The big problem 03:21 Lack of speed 06:40 What's the true picture? Not only has Aston Martin leapfrogged Mercedes (and many other F1 teams) over the off-season, but as Lewis Hamilton pointed out, 2023's standout performer has done it using several Mercedes parts, and even the former champion team's windtunnel! It begs the question, what has Mercedes been doing with those same parts and same tools? #f1 #f12023 #mercedes #lewishamilton #formula1 #f1news #formulaone #bahraingp #georgerussell #totowolff #astonmartin #fernandoalonso
Backing Aston Martin for an early upset in 2023 was the hottest take from Formula 1 pre-season testing. But could it be the real deal, or is it - as Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack suggested - just a bit like playground rumours? There’s good reason to view this team as the BIG wildcard of F1 2023. If its testing form is an accurate predictor then Aston Martin is a huge threat to the established order. But even if that proves slightly overblown, Aston Martin could still achieve something big. Nothing that’s happened in F1 testing has dented Red Bull’s status as pre-season favourite in 2023. It set an ominous pace over the three days in Bahrain and once again looks like the car to beat. What testing has done is prove that main rivals Ferrari, which looked quick over a lap but struggled more over long runs, and Mercedes, which battled balance problems, are determined to go their own way with their cars. Other than Mercedes and Ferrari, almost every team in F1 has edged more in the direction of Red Bull’s concept – save for Haas, which is locked into a more Ferrari-esque style owing to their shared components. That’s because Red Bull is F1’s most successful car and, presumably, because those teams have evaluated Red Bull’s ideas back at their factories and seen enough to make them believe it’s the right way to go for these still-young ground effect regulations. So why are Mercedes and Ferrari so convinced that their alternative approaches are going to work? Just how different are the three cars and is there any chance that Red Bull might not be on the right track for the long term? 00:00 Red Bull copycats 00:59 Comparing the big three 03:40 Different approaches 06:39 Midfield opportunity? Fernando Alonso is never shy of giving an opinion, and he used his first public appearance as an Aston Martin driver at the team's 2023 F1 car launch to fire shots around the rest of the grid, taking a swipe at Red Bull as well as some of his former teams #f1 #formula1 #formulaone #astonmartin #fernandoalonso #f1news #f12023 #lancestroll #f1testing #f1tech #therace

Mattia Binotto will leave his position as Ferrari Formula 1 boss at the end of an increasingly difficult year for the team. Intense speculation that Ferrari was preparing for Binotto’s exit was emphatically rejected by the team in the build-up to the season finale in Abu Dhabi. But a week later, Binotto resigned, and Ferrari doesn't have an immediate replacement lines up. So what’s going on, why’s it come to this, and what does it mean for Ferrari’s 2023 title ambitions? #F1 #Ferrari #MattiaBinotto READ OUR VERDICT https://the-race.com/formula-1/is-binotto-exit-really-whats-best-for-ferrari-our-verdict/ 00:00 Binotto resigns 00:38 Exit explained 04:01 Why Ferrari lost faith 06:38 Should Ferrari be more patient?
