Mercedesā delight at a surprise 1-2 at the Belgian Grand Prix quickly turned to anguish after George Russell was disqualified from a hard-fought win. Mercedes winning a Formula 1 race is no longer the absurd fantasy it was a few months ago but its initial one-two in Spa was still unexpected. The shock value of that was quickly surpassed when the stewards threw winner Russell out of the race just hours after the flag, ensuring team-mate Lewis Hamilton won after all. āNot good enough, too sensitive and also really too slowā. That was Max Verstappenās damning indictment of the upgraded 2024 Red Bull, during a Hungarian Grand Prix weekend in which he failed to feature in the fight for victory and became embroiled in furious radio exchanges with his own Formula 1 team. Such a crushing defeat never goes down well with someone as ultra-competitive as Verstappen of course, but this happened on an F1 weekend he declared especially important because of the introduction of Red Bullās biggest upgrade of the season. Verstappenās frustration has been growing for months, starting long before Oscar Piastri led home McLaren team-mate Lando Norris to take his first grand prix victory. 00:00 Verstappen's Red Bull fury 05:45 What Red Bull changed 07:21 Red Bull's mix and match strategy 08:22 The added pressure of McLaren's rise READ MORE HERE: Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace #f1 #formula1 #formulaone #grandprix #f12024 #therace #f1news #redbull #maxverstappen #mclaren #mercedes #lewishamilton #ferrari #hungariangp #hungary #budapest
You donāt normally see an F1 driver punished for someone crashing behind them without any contact - but Fernando Alonsoās driving in the Australian Grand Prix was penalised for exactly that. Alonso was given a 20-second time penalty for the "unusual manoeuvre" that contributed to George Russell's dramatic last lap accident in Melbourne. What initially looked like Russell shunting on his own in Alonsoās dirty air quickly morphed into something more, as it became clear that Alonso had at least lifted off the throttle on his way into the corner. Unsurprisingly this became very divisive very quickly. Was it a brake test? Or was it just classic, āwilyā Alonso doing an age-old trick of making the car behind check up - and Russell just got caught out? 0:00 Intro 1:13 What damned Alonso 3:02 Alonso bites back 4:54 But... he's wrong 6:58 Why this penalty? Williams benching Logan Sargeant so team-mate Alex Albon can race is an unprecedented scenario in modern Formula 1. But has Williams made the right call in allowing Albon to use Sargeant's car for the rest of the weekend, having damaged his own beyond repair in a practice crash? Scott Mitchell-Malm and Edd Straw (from Melbourne) join Glenn Freeman to discuss this brutal Williams decision, the reasons for it, and what it says about the team and how it views its second driver. The controversy surrounding Red Bull and its F1 team boss Christian Horner has descended into crisis after extraordinary tension within the team was made public by Max Verstappenās father Jos. F1ās season opener was dominated by Red Bull with a one-two for world champion Max Verstappen and team-mate Sergio Perez, but the curtain-raiser was overshadowed constantly through a remarkable week in Bahrain. And what was a dream start on-track has been nothing less than a nightmare off it. Red Bull and Horner hoped a line could be drawn under the allegations about his conduct towards a female member of staff when the parent company dismissed a āgrievanceā against him on the eve of the new season. Instead, it has escalated to new heights, culminating in Jos Verstappenās shock warning that Red Bull Racing will āexplodeā if Horner remains in charge. FREE TRIAL! Lewis Hamilton will make a stunning switch to Ferrari for 2025 in one of F1ās biggest driver moves ever. Hamilton only signed a new two-year Mercedes deal last summer, that was meant to cover 2024 and 2025. Which is one of many reasons this is such a big surprise. But it turns out that new contract included a release clause for 2025 that Hamilton has chosen to activate before even driving the 2024 Mercedes in reality. We didnāt see this coming and Mercedes didnāt either, based on the hurried meeting that was held at Brackley on Thursday afternoon to inform staff. 0:00 Hamilton's shock Ferrari move 2:51 Why Ferrari? 4:55 A gut punch for Mercedes 6:32 Who will replace Hamilton? 9:14 The consequences at Ferrari Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace #f1 #formulaone #formula1 #lewishamilton #ferrari #mercedes #f12024
